It’s been a longstanding mixup for both stars who share the same name.

Michelle Williams, the Destiny’s Child star, has once again jokingly addressed the confusion fans have had between her and the former Dawson’s Creek actress of the same name, Michelle Williams.ย

On Tuesday, Michelle the singer and actress, took to her Instagram Stories to share a ‘dressing room update’ where she began by touting the success of her current project, the Broadway adaption of Death Becomes Her.

‘Just really excited about today. You guys know about two weeks ago we celebrated 100 shows, and now, today, it probably makes about 116 shows done,’ she said while keeping a cool and calm demeanor. ‘I love that for us.’

It’s at this point that she changed direction to announce she ‘got a new letter’ from a fan in Germany,’ all while flashing that same calm smile, and throwing in a bit of irony and sarcasm. ‘This is great. Absolutely phenomenal. Absolutely great.’ย

From there, theย Heart To Yours star began to set up how she has yet again received fan mail meant for the namesake actress, only this time the person who sent it not only got the two ladies mixed up, but also some of their resume credits.

‘There are some things that you think: man what’s it going to take the cake? Man what’s going to be better than the other? What can happen?’ she continued, before adding, ‘And so I received this letter and I can’t wait to dig in and tell you guys what it says.’

‘It says Dear Michelle Williams, I hope this letter finds you in great spirits. My name is Phillip, and I have been an avid fan of your incredible performances in both film and theater,’ which is all correct, but then comes the resume mixup.

‘Your work in movies like Blue Valentine (2010), Manchester By The Sea (2016), and The Greatest Showman (2017) has deeply moved me and others, showcasing your exceptional talent.’

It turns out, all of those stellar films are performances by the other Michelle Williams, who hails from Kalispell, Montana.ย ย

Theย Rockford, Illinois native (bornย Tenitra Michelle Williams), 45, continues on with the fan mail where he asks if she ‘wouldย consider signing the enclosed photos that I have of you.ย Having your autograph would mean so much for me and my daughter as we admire your artistry.’

The fan does get the facts right when he adds, ‘Furthermore, I wish you the best and much success with your current production of Death Becomes Her at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.ย I am sure that your captivating performances will leave a lasting impression on the audience.’

After soaking in the compliment, seemingly for her, she wrapped up the last line of the letter.

‘Thank you very much for your time and consideration, and look forward to your future projects and continued success in your career. Warm regards, Phillip.’

But ultimately the German fan listed out film credits that turned out to be for the other Michelle Williams

The Illinois native then revealed she had another fan mail that prompted her to ask:ย man what’s it going to take the cake? Man what’s going to be better than the other? What can happen?’

Still keeping a straight face and relaxed body language,ย The Color Purple actress and singer began to hold up the three different photos that fan sent her, only they were of Michelle Williams, the Brokeback Mountain actress.

While holding the three pictures of the other Michelle she said, ‘Thank you Phillip. Thank you so much. This is absolutely brilliant.’

Before placing them down, the Say Yes singer highlighted one of the images of her namesake to compliment her blonde bob-cut: ‘Her hair is fabulous.’

She then explained, ‘So yes, Michelle knows what’s going on as well. And I can not wait to see her hopefully sooner than later. It’s being worked out. And yea, I wanted to share that with y’all today.’

The confusion some fans have been having between the two stars has been going on for many years.

In one instance, dating back to 2019 actress Michelle Williams (born Michelle Ingrid Williams) received an outpouring ofย support following her impassioned Emmy acceptance speech.

But the Destiny’s Child alum ended up having to take to her Instagram Live to set the record straight about the mixup when she got some of the messages.

While also sharing respect for her namesake, she explained: ‘How come when yโ€™all are tagging and congratulating a person, do yโ€™all see that I’m black?

‘When you go to my profile, you search for the “Michelle Williams,” I am black. OK? I ainโ€™t mixed with nothing, I ainโ€™t mixed with Persian, Russian, I am black.’ย

Just this past December the songstress sharedย a photo of letters she got, alongside some images of the wrong Michelle Williams, as reported by International The News.

‘Fan Mail,’ she captioned the picture, which showed a letter addressed to Ms. Williams, along with two pictures of The Greatest Showman star.
