As Deryck Whibley continues to recover at home after being hospitalized with pneumonia and potential heart failure, the Sum 41 frontman has shared an update on his condition.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the Canadian rocker revealed that he’s ‘not out of the woods yet’, confessing that he’s still ‘bedridden’ but ‘staying positive’ with the help of his wife and mother, who is a registered nurse, and from the love and support of fans.
‘I wanted to take a min to say thank you to everyone for so much love and support,’ be began in the caption, alongside a picture of a simple red heart.
He continues, ‘Although I’m not out of the woods of this pneumonia yet and have been told to be prepared for a bit of roller coaster sickness over the next couple of weeks, I’m staying positive and doing my best to get through all of this.’
While it had been three days since he was discharged from the hospital, Whibley did confess that he was still sick enough to still be bedridden, due in part to ‘having a hard time breathing’ and ‘tight chest pains’.

The father of two concluded the post: ‘I’m in the best hands and am on the right medicine. I plan on being my absolute best for When We Were Young next month. That’s my goal. Thank you, so much love Deryck.’
By using the When We Were Young festival, which is being held October 21 & 22 in Las Vegas, as the barometer for his recovery that gives him four weeks to regain his health and get his stamina stage ready.
Whibley’s health update comes in the wake of his wife Ariana Cooper Whibley revealing that he’d been discharged from the hospital after ‘responding so well to his treatments’ in an Instagram post.
‘I’m very happy to be giving this update,’ the model wrote Saturday. ‘Deryck was discharged after responding so well to his treatments. He is now under the care of his mother who is a registered nurse and myself.’
Alongside a photo of a floral bouquet surrounded by family photos, Ariana revealed that the ‘the pressure and strain on his heart and lungs has improved and he is able to breath without as much pain.’
She thanked her followers for their support, writing: ‘I can’t tell you how truly grateful we are for the community around us.
‘We knew we had support but the outpouring of love for our family has been absolutely overwhelming and we can’t begin to say how much it has meant to us and helped us stay positive through this.’

Whibley’s health scare began on Friday when his wife announced on Instagram that he was rushed to the ER with pneumonia alongside a photo of the singer-songwriter being wheeled on a gurney into an ambulance with a mask on.
‘Deryck and I were suppose to be in Chicago right now, celebrating our eight year wedding anniversary but the universe had a different plan for us,’ Ariana, 32, wrote in the caption. ‘We spent the entire night in the ER and will now be spending the next few days here in the hospital as he fights through pneumonia.’
She went on to reveal the seriousness of the situation by disclosing the stress caused by the inflammatory condition of the lungs.
‘The scariest part is that there is a lot of strain on his heart and they are telling us that there is a possibility of heart failure,’ she continued, with obvious distress coming through in her words.
The couple, whose eighth anniversary was on August 30, are the proud parents of two children: son Lydon, three, and daughter Quentin, six months.
Referencing the rocker’s past health scares — which includes collapsing from severe liver and kidney damage due to his admitted alcoholism — Ariana confessed the emergency situation has brought back difficult memories.
‘This is obviously not our first time in a situation like this but it brings back a lot of really difficult memories seeing him back in a hospital bed connected to wires and IVs,’ she shared.

Whibley collapsed in the kitchen of his home, as a result of his liver and kidney failure in April 2014.
Doctors ended up placing him in a coma for a week to help his body detox from alcohol, which ultimately set him on the road to recovery where he finally achieved sobriety, according to People.
Following his recovery from the hospitalization, and his wife’s depression and suicide attempt, the couple decided to get sober together.
‘We said, ‘We’re going to take our lives seriously at this point and figure this s**t out,” Whibley told People in 2021.

But it’s unfortunate that it had to even come to that. However, now I’m feeling better than I’ve ever felt. I’m healthier. I’m in the best shape of my life.’
