Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert revealed on Wednesday that they previously experienced a miscarriage.
The husband and wife — Derek, 40, and Hayley, 31 — are currently expecting their first child.
But this week they took a moment to honor Hayley’s prior pregnancy with a moving video tribute.
In a joint Instagram post, they shared the caption, ‘There are some things in life that change you forever. For us, this is one of those things. A chapter of love, loss, heartbreak, and everything in between.
‘As we are now in October, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we share this part of our story to honor our baby that never made it earthside.’
The heartfelt note continued, ‘One in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, a silent heartbreak so many families know, and one we unfortunately had to experience. As we share this, know that there’s a rainbow not far behind.’

The term ‘rainbow baby’ refers to a child who is born to a woman who previously suffered a miscarriage.
A note in their video montage read, ‘This video is a tribute to a part of our story… Although we are so excited to be welcoming our rainbow baby so soon, we honor our baby that never made it earthside.’
The collection of outtakes showed the moment the couple told each one of their loved ones their baby news.
Included in the roundup was the instant in which Hayley surprised Derek’s sister Julianne Hough with her sonogram.
And to close out the memories, Derek and Hayley included a somber clip of them comforting each other as they learned they’d had a miscarriage.
On July 26 the lovebirds posted professional black and white photos on Instagram to share their baby news.
The caption of the joint post simply read: ‘Already so loved ❤️.’
It marks a bright new chapter for the pair, after Hayley underwent an emergency medical procedure for cranial hematoma in December 2023.

Last October, nearly one year after the health ordeal, Hayley looked back on her life as she turned 30.
She wrote on Instagram, ‘As I reflect on the past decade, I am filled with so much gratitude for every experience that has shaped me.
‘I was just figuring out my life in Los Angeles, as a young woman; trying to find belonging, navigating uncertainty and discovery.’
The dancer continued, ‘Over the years I found my friends that I call family, my husband, my furry family, my passions, my career, my purpose, and so much more. These were extremely transformative years for me.’
