Denise Welch has said that Charli XCX had the ‘most unpretentious wedding’ as she revealed she had ‘no clue’ who the star-studded guests were.
The Loose Women star, 67, was one of the unlikely attendees at the pop singer’s starry wedding to 1975 drummer George Daniel last month.
The couple are both friends of Denise’s son, Matty Healy, the lead singer of the rock band.
Appearing on the How to Fail podcast with Elizabeth Day on Wednesday, Denise gushed over the nuptials, describing it as the ‘nicest wedding’ she’s ever been to.
She said: ‘It was in Sicily, and considering that everywhere my husband Lincoln and I have gone this year, we’ve left the heatwave here and taken the weather abroad.
‘It was a beautiful three-day event in a gorgeous place and considering there was the cool of coolness of people there, it was the most unpretentious, lovely wedding.

‘But then that’s down to Charli and George.’
Charli and George had a ceremony in London this summer, followed by a wedding celebration in Italy.
Following the wedding, Denise, who is making a return to Waterloo Road, posted a video from the celebration to her Instagram page.
She was labelled ‘iconic’ on social media after the clip featured several big names, including Australian singer Troye Sivan.
She said: ‘She’s (Charli) the supreme leader and of course it was hilarious at the wedding because I was taking photos with lots of the guests and things.
‘And when we were allowed, I’d put them on Instagram and people are going, ‘Oh my God, have you seen who she’s in the photo with?’
‘And I didn’t have an absolute clue with these young people.’
It comes after Denise confessed that she thought Troye was just ‘some lad at the BBQ’ after fans spotted him in her snaps from Charli’s wedding.

Speaking about the day while attending the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, she told Metro she had the ‘most wonderful time.’
Denise added: ‘I posted some of the party photos, it was only then I realised I was in a photo with Troye Sivan.’
After he phone blew up she joked: ‘It was only then I realised, I just thought it was a lovely lad a the BBQ. But it’s given me a lot of cool points.’
She continued: ‘It was testament to Charli and George just how lovely and relaxed it was. It was great, I’m very happy for them.’
Denise shared clips and photos after attending the island ceremony with her husband Lincoln Townley, her son Matty and his fiancée Gabbriette Bechtel.
She certainly made the most of her chance to mingle with the stars’ posing for an array of selfies and videos during the trip.
Many showed her alongside her son Matty, who is George’s bandmate in The 1975, with Denise dressed in a stylish black jumpsuit for the evening party.
The guests also enjoyed a luxurious yacht day following the wedding ceremony, with Denise sharing a video of herself and newlywed Charli preparing to board the boat.
Denise was also joined by her ex-husband Tim Healy, and her younger son Louis, 24, to celebrate Charli and George’s nuptials.
Posting the montage on Instagram, she captioned the post: ‘All the feels. #georgeandcharli Sicily 2025. That’s amore.’
