Demi Lovato has been accused of ditching her ‘woke’ era in favor of cultivating a more ‘soft girl’ inspired image.
The singer, 32, who has previously sported a shaved head in a bid to shed ‘gender and sexuality norms’, identified as non-binary and called out a froyo shop for ‘triggering’ her, has transformed her image to a retro glamor look coupled with wholesome cooking videos.
Gone are the controversies of the past as a smiling Lovato rustled up a roast chicken dinner in a recent TikTok, although fans were later left concerned over her nervous ‘shaking’ in the clip.
Lovato’s transformation has wowed fans who quipped she’s gone from ‘woke to womanhood’ and entered her ‘feminine soft girl era.’
One fan wrote: ‘Soooo this was just a phase’ while a second typed: ‘her aura is so back.’
The former child star has previously suffered a turbulent personal life, suffering a near-fatal heroin and fentanyl overdose inside her $8.3M Hollywood Hills mansion back in July 2018 and going into treatment to deal with bulimia when she was 18

In 2021 Demi shocked fans when she discussed her ‘fluid’ sexuality. She said: ‘I’m very fluid. I think love is love. You can find it in any gender. I like the freedom of being able to flirt with whoever I want’
‘I’ve always known I was hella queer, but I have fully embraced it’ and added she was ‘just too queer” to date men at the time.’
She also expressed feeling proud of belonging to the ‘alphabet mafia’, referring to the LGBTQ+ community.
That same year detailed how she felt ‘liberated’ when she shaved her head because of how it helped her shed ‘gender and sexuality norms’ she was raised with as a ‘Christian in the South.’
Ditching her previous wholesome look, she adopted an edgier style and even got a gigantic spider tattoo on her head.
Another memorable outburst that year saw Lovato slammed by fans after she went to war with a frozen yogurt shop after feeling ‘triggered’ by their selection of diet and sugar free items – due to her past eating disorder.
The star was blasted over the ‘stupid’ attack, leaving many fans confused, as well as people upset with the idea of a big star attacking a small business in lockdown.
In her original post, she penned: ‘Finding it extremely hard to order froyo from [The Bigg Chill] when you have to walk past tons of sugar-free cookies/other diet foods before you get to the counter’, before adding the hashtag ‘Do Better’.

Demi accused the the shop of ‘harmful messaging from brands or companies that perpetuate a society that not only enables but praises disordered eating.’
The establishment responded to the Sorry Not Sorry songstress in a direct message, which she subsequently posted online.
The company responded saying: ‘We are not diet vultures. We cater to all of our customers needs for the past 36 years. We are sorry you found this offensive.’
Lovato responded: ‘Not just that. Your service was terrible. So rude. The whole experience was triggering and awful.’
She advised the business: ‘You can carry things for other people while also carrying for another percentage of your customers who struggle DAILY just to even step foot in your store…
‘You can find a way to provide an environment for all people with different needs. Including eating disorders – one of the deadliest mental illness only second to [opioid] overdoses. Don’t make excuses, just do better.’
The What Other People Say artist then advised the business on different ways it could improve on the issue.
She penned: ‘I was thinking, maybe it would help if you made it more clear that the sugar free options and vegan options are for that. Labeling the snacks for celiac or diabetes or vegans.
‘When it’s not super clear, the messaging gets confusing and being in LA it’s really hard to distinguish diet culture vs health needs…
‘I think clear messaging would be more beneficial for everyone. You aren’t wrong for catering to many different needs but it’s not about excluding one demographic to cater to others.’
Fans soon responded in anger, writing: ‘What’s your favorite internet beef rn mine is Demi lovato forgetting diabetics exist and fighting a frozen yogurt business in public…

Entering a dilapidated former brothel, the trio stumbled across Carmen, a ghost with distinctly feminist leanings and a lingering grudge against men after being mistreated by the opposite sex in life.
Instinctively realizing the once chatty Carmen’s sudden shyness might have something to do with her male colleagues, they added: ‘Did you not want to say anything else because the boys were in here?’
The question prompted a sharp response from the detector, and woke warrior Lovato immediately latched onto a potential answer.

Upon finishing a verse from the track – which includes lyrics about ‘staying strong and believing in oneself’ – the detector emitted three short bursts, indicating a positive response from Carmen.
Evidently thrilled, Lovato said: ‘That’s the coolest standing ovation I’ve ever had.’
In 2022 Lovato returned to using she/her pronouns due to ‘constantly’ having to educate people on her gender identity.
‘I’ve actually adopted the pronouns of she/her again with me. So for me, I’m such a fluid person that I don’t really and I don’t find that I am… I felt like, especially last year, my energy was balanced and my masculine and feminine energy so that when I was faced with the choice of walking into a bathroom and it said, women and men, I didn’t feel like there was a bathroom for me because I didn’t feel necessarily like a woman,’ she explained.
‘I didn’t feel like a man. I just felt like a human. And that’s what they/them is about. For me, it’s just about like feeling human at your core.’
‘Recently I’ve been feeling more feminine, and so I’ve adopted she/her again. But I think what’s important is, like, nobody’s perfect. Everyone messes up pronouns at some point, and especially when people are learning, it’s just all about respect,’ she added.
On her Instagram bio, Demi states her pronouns as ‘they/them/she/her.’

She has been engaged to musician Jutes since 2023.
The couple confirmed their romance in August 2022 and Jordan proposed to the Disney Channel alum in December 2023.
Speaking with Teen Vogue this week, Lovato said that she ‘lives and breathes’ for the ‘connection’ she and Jordan share.
Lovato added: ‘Everything I do, I wish I was with him. I see my future with him. I see growing old with him.’
