Just days before its superhero sequel The Marvels hits theaters, Marvel Studios has released one final trailer, which features quite the surprise: Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.
Thompson, 40, made her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut as Valkyrie in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, reprising that role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
She had not been previously confirmed to appear in The Marvels – due in theaters November 10 – though this new trailer shows Valkyrie offering some sage advice for Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel: ‘You can stand tall without standing alone.’
The film – a follow-up to Marvel’s 2019’s billion-dollar blockbuster Captain Marvel – brings back Brie Larson as Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel along with Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau from the 2021 TV series WandaVision and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan from the 2022 TV series Ms. Marvel.
They must all team up and use their considerable powers to defeat a new Thanos-like threat: Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton).

The trailer begins with flashback shots of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) as Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) states, ‘Heroes, it’s an old-fashioned notion.’
‘But the world could still use them,’ Fury adds, as we see flashback footage to a two-eyed Nick Fury with Carol, as we see a shot of both Iron Man and Captain America saying, ‘Whatever it takes.’
Carol adds, ‘We destroyed Thanos, but it’s not over,’ as we see a brief flashback of Thanos saying, ‘My work is inevitable. There will always be more to finish it,’ as it cuts to a shot of the villianous Dar-Benn.
‘This is just the beginning,’ Dar-Benn tells her followers, as she activates a purple beam that causes a rift between our universe and many others.
‘She tore a hole in space! There’s a different reality bleeding into ours,’ Monica explains, as Carol is seen flying off into space.
‘What are you prepared to do?’ Nick asks Carol, who replies, ‘I’m invincible,’ though she’s seen struggling with Dar-Benn, who says, ‘Your powers only make me stronger.’
Fury adds, ‘She can’t be matched, she can’t be controlled,’ as a title card teases, ‘Be there for the moment that changes everything.’
Fury is heard saying, ‘I’m asking for one last fight’ as Dar-Benn says, ‘You cannot protect your people’ while Valkyrie tells Carol, ‘You can stand tall without standing alone.’

Nick Fury says, ‘They’re here,’ as the title card hits before the final shot, where Kamala is falling from the sky and Nick tells Monica that she has to fly using her powers.
While Monica is skittish, Nick simply yells, ‘Black girl magic,’ and Monica takes off into the sky as the trailer comes to an end.
The appearance of Valkyrie perhaps may lend more credence to the swirling rumors that Marvel may be leading up to an A-Force movie.
The A-Force in Marvel Comics was an all-female team of Avengers, which debuted in 2015 as part of Marvel’s Secret Wars crossover event.
