Dax Shepard just explained why he and his wife Kristen Bell are raising their 12-year-old daughter Lincoln and 10-year-old daughter Delta to talk back and be disrespectful.
The 50-year-old Armchair Expert co-host and his family were recently visiting Nashville when a close friend confessed she was ‘shook’ over how their children showed ‘no respect’ and were acting a ‘little entitled.’
‘And I said, “You’re dead right,”‘ Dax recalled on his podcast Monday.
‘They do talk back and they are not respectful. I can understand where that seems completely unruly, but I want you to know what I’m prioritizing, which is when they’re 19 and their boss is a f***ing creep, I want them to talk back.
‘I want them to be disrespectful. I want them to always advocate for themselves, whether I think they’re right or wrong.’
Shepard went on to say he and the 45-year-old Frozen alum were ‘willing to deal’ with their girls’ behavior at a restaurant, which his friend considered ’embarrassing.’

‘I can handle that. Okay. Because I want this other thing for them as women,’ the Idiocracy alum noted.
Dax’s celebrity guest – Reese Witherspoon – politely listened about the Michigan-born couple’s unorthodox parenting style, and then offered him girl dad advice.
‘It’s so, so important what you say to your daughters. You write on their mind with a Sharpie. It’s not a dry-erase board,’ the 49-year-old Oscar winner described.
‘So, what you give them – the tools of self-confidence, self-worth, what they’re looking for in a partner, what they want in their 20s versus their 30s. You get a lot of that from your dad.’
Shepard responded: ‘You’ll be relieved to know my mantra since I’ve had them is, “Okay, they’re going to date me.” So, what am I going to be that they go out and try to find?
‘So, if they want to talk to me, I got to drop everything and like look in their eyes and listen to them and like take them seriously and give them my time because I want whoever they’re with to drop every f***ing thing and listen to them.’
The inseparable pair have limited comments on their Instagram accounts, and Kristen cancelled a scheduled TODAY appearance following controversy over her tone deaf wedding anniversary post from October 17.
Bell wrote: ‘Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: “I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.”‘
To make matters worse, October was Domestic Violence Awareness month.

An inside source told the Daily Mail last month: ‘Kristen and Dax are both pretty volatile people and can blow up over the smallest issue. Sometimes Kristen or Dax will say something they think is a fun dig and the other one gets offended. They have a strange dynamic but it seems to always work out in the end.’
Dax and the three-time Emmy nominee ‘often don’t talk for days’ after a major blow-up, but they still manage to ‘keep their kids in the dark about their arguments.’
The self-described ‘polar opposites’ – who also openly curse in front of their kids – originally met at a dinner party in 2007.
Shepard and Bell have acted together in Family Game Fight (2022), HouseBroken (2021), Ultra City Smiths (2021), The Good Place (2018), CHiPs (2017), Terrific Trucks (2016), The Boss (2016), Veronica Mars (2014), Hit and Run (2012), and When in Rome (2010).
