She notably played the role of Mary Lamb – a bereaved mother and cook at the Barton Academy boarding school.
While talking about her character with The Guardian, Da’Vine expressed that, ‘There’s a fragility, a tenderness; she’s a born leader, a caregiver, a nurturer.’
‘This idea that she’s flawed, but there’s still great love and hope within her, whether she’s aware of it or not.’
She also revealed an important lesson that she learned from fellow actor Eddie Murphy – whom she previously worked alongside with in the movie titled, Dolemite Is My Name?
‘I think to pace yourself, which I definitely applied here – don’t blow your wad. So in doing all this funny stuff, when he’s off-screen, he’s quiet, reserving that energy.’
‘And then I did the opposite. I stayed happy, happy, happy off-screen to be able to go in there and be more serious,’ the star added.
In regards to her recent wins amid the busy awards season, she also opened up about handling the spotlight and stated, ‘The schedule is overwhelming, but it’s an overwhelming joy as well.’
‘This is what actors dream of. So I dare not complain. I’m just taking it day by day. That’s all you can do.’

Shortly before the Critics Choice Awards commenced on Sunday, Randolph stepped onto the red carpet to show off her glamorous look.
She donned a figure-hugging, black dress that contained a velvet, corset bodice as well as a mermaid-styled skirt that contained sparkling embellishments.
Dramatic sleeves partially covered her arms and the actress added a pair of dangly earrings as well as a glittering silver necklace for a finishing touch.
‘I’m a fashion girl. I love the details,’ Da’Vine recently told People. ‘For every red carpet I’m doing mood boards, I’m pulling hair references, nails references, makeup references, different swatches for a wardrobe.’
