DAVINA McCall’s ex-husband has opened up about how he got through a “dark time” to Instagram, just days after his ex tied the knot to Michael Douglas.
Davina, 58, was married to Matthew Robertson for almost two decades before their shock split in 2017.
The former couple share three children; Holly, Tilly and Chester.
On Tuesday, Matthew marked his birthday with a poignant post about how far he has come, with thanks to those around him.
Dedicating the post to his best friend, Mark Diggins, Matthew shared a selfie with him and wrote: “Today is my birthday, the man in this picture is Mark Diggins, my best friend.
“He saved my life at a very dark time, he taught me how to live, love and thrive in the outdoors.
“He is a silent warrior, avoiding the lime light and regarded as one of top mountain guides in the world.”
Matthew continued: “Today is not about me, but to all the amazing, kind and supportive people around me.
“Thank you Mark and your amazing wife Nikki, thank you to my kids who make me shine and to all the incredible people in my life.”
Matthew and Davina split in 2017, with the latter confirming at the time: “I am very sad to say Matthew and I have separated. Our amazing children are our number one priority.”
Despite having since admitting that the split was “traumatic”, Davina said in 2020 that the pair managed to build a positive co-parenting relationship.
She told You Magazine: “Going through a divorce is a traumatic experience and it is something that needs to be navigated as carefully as possible.
“Two years on, we have both grown as people and we can now co-parent happily and acknowledge that it was the right thing for us to go through even though it involved absolute emotional turmoil.”
While it is not known whether Matthew has a partner, Davina has this month remarried.
Tying the knot with hairdresser Michael Douglas, the former Big Brother presenter enjoyed an “intimate” wedding
Sources told how the couple had opted to keep the celebration “very low key” before attending a friend’s much larger wedding the following day — their first public outing as husband and wife.
A friend added: “Their wedding was perfect, exactly what they wanted. They chose a small venue close to their home, and just invited about ten of their friends and relatives to be there with them.
“It was very intimate and everyone who attended is very special in their lives.”
