David ‘Diddy’ Hamilton has opened up about his affair with a sex worker behind his ex-wife’s back while admitting having children ‘spoils marriage’.
The BBC Radio legend, 87, has shared an eye-opening insight into his personal life off the airwaves.
David’s presenting career began in 1959 during his national service with the British Forces Network.
He then joined the BBC in 1967, presenting Family Choice before going on to anchor a number of slots across Radio 1, from late nights to his own daily show.
David, who was given the nickname ‘Diddy’ by the late Ken Dodd, also hosted the legendary Top Of The Pops.
Reflecting on his life, the presenter has talked about his affair behind his wife Shelia Moore’s back.

David’s presenting career began in 1959 during his national service with the British Forces Network before joining the BBC in 1967
He married the makeup artist in 1962 and the pair went on to have two children together – Jane and David Jr.
However, they split up in 1970, following his affair.
David admitted:Â ‘I was happily married. Until I fell in love with someone else.’
He continued to Best magazine:Â ‘I went to meet her at Liverpool Street station. She was sitting on her suitcase wearing a fur coat, which she told me later she’d borrowed.
‘I just looked at her and thought, wow. I think if anything spoils a marriage, it’s children. Suddenly, the man is taking a back seat.
‘My wife found out because I talked about Roz a lot. I was head over heels. I left my wife and children, and we lived together for four years.’Â
Speaking about his relationship with a sex worker, David said she had asked him to open her new shop at the height of his fame, where he attempted to charge her £500.
He said: ‘She told me she charged £100 for her services, so ‘If you give me five I’ll give you one.’
David was first married makeup artist Shelia Moore and the pair had two children together before splitting up in 1970
‘That sounded fair, so I collected the first one that evening.
‘I thought that would be it. But we’d become very fond of each other. She was still working at the club and I was getting in too deep.’Â
David married his second wife Dreena in 1993, with the couple first meeting after being set up on a blind date.
Dreena previously told Daily Mail that her friends warned her against tying the knot with David, cautioning that he was a ‘womaniser’.Â
She said: ‘We’ve been together for 40 years now, married for 30.Â
‘And there are no regrets there.’
In 2022 it was revealed David had been diagnosed with a rare cancer that makes him look like he has a sun tan.Â
He was left confused last year when friends and family said he had a glow about him and looked healthier than ever.

Unbeknownst to him and those around him, the opposite was true.Â
It wasn’t until he started urinating blood one day and was referred to a specialist by his doctor that he was diagnosed with polycythaemia vera.
The rare disease causes the body to overproduce red blood cells, causing the skin to develop a ‘very rosy complexion’.
‘Everybody who sees me says how well I look,’ Hamilton told Daily Mail.
‘Too many red blood cells gives you a very rosy complexion, so it looks like you’ve got a sun tan.’
