Dave Grohl’s fans were left in shock on Tuesday after he admitted to cheating on his wife and fathering a secret love child with another person.
The Foo Fighters frontman, 55, issued a public apology to his wife of 21 years, Jordyn Blum, and their three children as he stressed he is ‘doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness’.
As fans reel from the news, an interview with Grohl’s late mother Virginia has reemerged in which she admitted her fears for her son’s love life.
Speaking to The Guardian in 2017, Virginia – who sadly died in 2022 – confessed she was more worried about how her son would fare with women than whether he’d be dragged into the pitfalls of a rock and roll lifestyle.
Reflecting on Grohl’s new-found celebrity back in the early Nineties, she admitted: ‘I did worry about women. It’s so embarrassing, but my biggest fear was that Madonna would snatch him up.’

Virginia also touched on Grohl’s status as ‘the nicest man in rock’.
The former teacher-turned-author spoke with fellow mothers of rock stars while researching a book and noted they ‘secretly value unreported acts of generosity and kindness’ more than the platinum discs – the ‘commitments to family or community’.
She went on to describe Grohl as ‘a philanthropist, a steady husband and a “superdad” to his three daughters’.
Grohl and Blum have daughters Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10, together.
Virginia noted: ‘He makes their breakfast, he packs their lunch, and then he goes to the studio’ adding, he ‘really is as nice as everyone says.’
The interview has resurfaced after Grohl revealed on Instagram that he had a secret love child.
‘I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness,’ he wrote.
‘We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together,’ he concluded.

Grohl and Blum met in 2001 and have been married since 2003.
Following his announcement that he had fathered a child outside his marriage, his two older daughters both took down their social media accounts.
His admission about marital infidelity followed an admission to The Guardian in 2007 that he had also cheated on his first wife, Jennifer Leigh Youngblood.
The two married in 1994 but had separated by 1996, and they divorced the following year.
In the same Guardian interview, Grohl said: ‘[My wife] Jordyn and [daughter] Violet are anchors that keep me from completely disappearing.’
Speaking to TIME in 2012, he said his family ‘changed everything that I do.’
He added: ‘It’s changed everything that I do. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting.’
While little is publicly known about Blum, People reported she once appeared on the cover of Teen, after being discovered at a supermarket when she was 12.
She was reportedly working as a producer at MTV when she met the frontman.

But Grohl told Elle in 2007 that he was not ready for a serious relationship when they first met, and stopped calling Blum after a few dates.
He shared: ‘After three months, I had a revelation and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, “Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.”‘
Blum has collaborated wit the Foo Fighters several times, including in the band’s 2002 video White Limo, where she made an appearance.
She also co-directed the Foo Fighters 2002 Walking a Line music video.
