The radio presenter writes in her new memoir, It's Not Love, Actually, that she and the Collingwood player bonded immediately.
'I think one of the biggest green flags about him was some of the conversations we had on our first date... (such as) the way he spoke about his sisters and his mum and family, and the things he loved and was passionate about,' the 31-year-old told Perth Now ahead of the book's release.
'He was exactly the type of man with integrity that everyone says he was.'
Dee says that she was also impressed to learn that Darcy, 30, is a man of his word.
'It's really important to watch someone's actions and see if they say certain things - do they follow through?' she explained.

Despite Dee previously insisting she would avoid moving in with her partner for as long as possible, the radio host and the AFL star have now decided to live together after all.
'We had lots of conversations about what [living together] would look like and how it would work, and it's been really fun,' Dee told The Sydney Morning Herald.
The pair moved into a shared home last year, Dee explained – and it's Darcy who does most of the cooking.
Darcy told the publication that their living arrangement has brought them closer together, as Dee now sees 'the losses, the injuries, the fatigue, the toll of being an athlete' firsthand.
'In a weird way, it's been good for me to be able to share that because often [as captain] I have to be the source of strength and stability and calm,' he said.
'To be able to show her the real and challenging part of it has felt really nice.'
Elsewhere in the interview, the couple admitted that they'd each been single for a number of years before meeting one another – with Darcy never having had a serious romance in his entire adulthood.

Dee had been single for three years before meeting Darcy, and had avoided dating for most of her 20s after tiring of being 'drawn to people who weren't that great'
'I don't live with my partner at the moment and we have such different, independent, busy lives,' she said at the time.
Dee indicated that she and Moore don't conform to the heterosexual gender stereotype of women taking on the bulk of housework and domestic duties when living with a partner.
