Daniel Ings recalled a raucous drama school party where he first met his The Gentleman co-star Theo James.
Theo, 39, portrays the fictional lead character Eddie Horniman in the series who inherits his father’s sizeable estate and the secret marijuana farm beneath it, with Daniel, 38, starring as his onscreen older brother Freddie.
But the actor has revealed their relationship actually began much earlier, when the duo were studying together at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning, Daniel candidly revealed he bumped into a then ‘roaring drunk’ Theo at a house party.
He told hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary: ‘I was playing chess with someone in the living room and he came in. Later on he came back and said, “Are you still playing? You know there’s a party out there!”‘

Daniel continued: ‘An hour later he came back again roaring drunk and collapsed the chess board and tossed it across the room and shouted, “Stop playing chess!”
‘Later everyone had their faces pressed against the window as he let fireworks off in the garden with his bare hands.’
In The Gentlemen, Theo portrays the fictional lead character Eddie, who inherits ‘his father’s sizeable estate only to discover’ its a ‘weed empire owned by the legendary Mickey Pearson.
In the series, host of unsavoury characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of Eddie’s operation.
Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game. However, as he gets sucked into the world of criminality, he begins to find a taste for it.
Daniel’s character Freddie, the eldest son of the former Duke of Halstead, lands himself in trouble when he ends up owing a family of Scouse drug dealers £8million.
After striking a deal with the family on behalf of this brother, Eddie tells Freddie he must dress as a chicken a perform for the dealers.
Addressing the scene Daniel added: ‘The slip in the chicken suit was real. It was the first one, I was psyching myself up for it.’

The trailer opens with Theo’s character Eddie Horniman attending the funeral of his father Archibald, upon which he inherits his country estate and becomes a duke.
Speaking to his brother Freddy (Daniel Ings), Eddie says: ‘I didn’t ask for any of this. The title has no practical value. The business is broken. There are holes in the roof, the staff are revolting and you brother, are a coke-sniffing c**t.’
Eddie is then introduced to Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) who tells him she ‘used to be in business’ with his father.
Taking him around the estate, she said: ‘Must have come as a bit of a shock, inheriting a house, a title.
‘As the new landlord, you will receive a significant amount of money in return for letting us carry out our activities.’
Eddie then learns the estate is an integral part of a cannabis empire with several unsavoury members of Britain’s underworld wanting a piece of the pie.
But it appears his new dealings are too much for Eddie to handle as he is heard saying: ‘I’m gonna remove their interest from this estate.’
