Cybill Shepherd said her one-time lover Elvis Presley was ‘a little bit too close to God or somebody’ as she discussed the 1970s romance in a public appearance over the weekend.
The actress, 75, made the reveal on Friday during An Evening with Cybill Shepherd: Music, Conversation & Stories at the Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles.
The Memphis, Tennessee-born star was about to perform her song Graceland (Revisited), when she spoke about the person who inspired it: the late Presley, who died in August 1977 at 42, People reported.
Shepherd, who’s been seen in cinematic classics such as The Last Picture Show and Taxi Driver, did an impression of Presley and called him’ a great guy.’
Shepherd said that Presley inspired the song she was about to play, and that she wrote it with her former musical director, Tom Adams.
Shepherd said at the end of her performance, ‘Elvis was really cool though.’

Audience members on hand also got stories about other Tinseltown romances Shepherd had during the two-hour show.
Shepherd spoke about her fling with another Hollywood veteran in Don Johnson, 75, as they worked on the 1985 motion picture The Long Hot Summer.
Shepherd said that while she and Don Johnson didn’t actually appear in the film together, she did and the leading man had a fling at the height of his Miami Vice fame.
‘Don Johnson and I did not do scenes together, but we did have a lot of fun,’ Shepherd said.Â
She continued: ‘No, we didn’t do scenes in front of the camera, we messed around behind the camera.’
The actress played the role of Eula Varner in the 1985 TV miniseries remake of the 1958 movie The Long Hot Summer, which starred Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.
She said at her show that she initially had her eye on a different role, but was disqualified for an unusual reason.
‘They said I was too pretty for the Joanne Woodward part for the remake of The Long, Hot Summer,’Â Shepherd said.Â
Shepherd added, ‘I didn’t hit that part, but I got another part.’
