Craig David has revealed the moment he knew he had truly made it in his career.
The singer, 44, shot to fame with his debut studio album Born To Do It in 2000, which spawned hits including Fill Me In, 7 Days and Rewind. The record went straight to No.1 in August that year, instantly changing Craig’s life forever.
Now, Craig has recalled the touching moment he realised he had finally made it – a special outing with his mother.
He told The Sun: ‘For me, it was taking my mum to Top Of The Pops for the first time.
‘It was one of the most amazing experiences because we watched it all these years together.
He added: ‘And then all of a sudden, you’re in the crowd watching your son on stage.’

Craig wrote his debut album in the bedroom of his childhood home in Southampton, and despite his huge success, his mother Tina Loftus remains deeply involved in his music – though now more as a critic than a cheerleader.
He explained that he values her honesty more than anyone’s, and when he was younger, he would jot down lyrics and melodies in his room before asking her, ‘How does this sound?’ and even today, he sends her every new song for her opinion.
Craig said that if she replies immediately, he knows the track is the one.
However, if her response takes a little longer, he assumes she’s not a fan, though she remains his biggest supporter.
As he celebrates the 25th anniversary of Born To Do It, Craig is set to play two huge shows at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo in London on April 7 and April 10.
Tickets for the first April date sold out within hours, prompting him to add an extra show.
The concerts will mark the first time in years that Craig performs Born To Do It from start to finish.
Discussing the milestone, Craig said they had previously performed snippets of the album on arena tours, but never the full record.
