Raul Malo, frontman for The Mavericks, has updated his fans on his health, providing new information just weeks after his cancer diagnosis.
The 58-year-old thanked his many fans for the ‘encouraging words and kind messages’ he received.
‘You all have made me feel stronger than ever in spite of my weakened state. The love and compassion shown to me in the last month has not only been touching, it has been beautifully overwhelming. I thank you and my family thanks you.’
He shared a black and white photos from what appeared to be the second round of chemotherapy.
‘Doctors are pleased with my progress,’ he said. ‘All the bloodwork and health signs are pointing in the right direction.’

However, the treatment is taking a toll on him.
‘The only side effect this week was just an overwhelming sensation to lay down and do nothing. Which is just about impossible for me but I’m managing…lol.’
On the Saturday update, he asserted, ‘I’m feeling really good and I’m probably going to take my dogs for a walk, play some guitar, etc…’
Malo advised his fans to look after their own health.
‘Remember to get yourself checked out by your doctor. Don’t put it off any longer.’
It was a group ‘health kick’ with other members of The Mavericks that lead to Malo’s doctor finding ‘two cancerous spots’ in his gastrointestinal system.
Fans were thrilled with the update and offered words of encouragement to the Dance the Night Away singer.
Fellow singer and songwriter Nicole Atkins offered words of hope.
‘Just seeing how much energy you put into every day on and off stage nonstop makes me wanna lay down just thinking about it. Rest up bubba and we love ya and can’t wait to try and keep up with ya when you kick the crap outta this jawn. ❤️’ she wrote.

The Mavericks canceled and rescheduled several shows when Malo revealed his diagnosis.
However, the frontman appeared to the strength to perform Saturday night , Arizona. ‘Packed in Prescott Valley! Thank you so much for joining us for a SOLD OUT SATURDAY at the @findlaytoyotacenter,’ he penned next to a photo of the band on stage.
