Davey Cummings, who works as a background painter on the animated comedy mystery show, sparked cancellation rumors with a since-deleted Instagram post, captured by Screen Rant.
Last week, he shared a grab from the series from the Velma Halloween Special, alongside a caption informing his followers that the show wasn’t renewed.
‘So fun working with this crew. There will not be a season 3, but I hope to work with these amazing talented people again one day,’ he captioned the image.
Cummings proceeded to encourage fans to ‘go watch’ the Halloween special on Max, which become available to stream last week.

After his post began to go viral online, he clarified on his Instagram Story on Tuesday that he has ‘no idea if Velma is getting a season 3 or not.’
Cummings concluded the post by writing: ‘Please do not take my posts as directions that Warner is going in.’
The show, which covers the origin story of Velma Dinkley and the Mystery Inc gang from Scooby Doo, has been roundly panned by critics and fans alike.
Its first season received a 40-percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and an even lower audience score of seven percent.
However, the show enjoyed high in-demand numbers in terms of customer research, downloads, streaming views, and social media interactions, even though many of the comments made about the animated series were negative, according to Movie Web.
Last summer, it was was picked up for season two.
Suzanna Makkos, who is the executive vice president of original comedy and adult animation for Max and Adult Swim, revealed the news during her Share With session at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
‘The series that we create at Max are art and voice driven, with character and comedy coming before anything else,’ she told the audience.

The diversity and inclusion Makkos spoke of may include the revelation that Velma and her crime solving friend Daphne kissed at the end of episode two.
‘The character is so iconic, and there’s been so much speculation about her sexuality,’ Mindy said to Variety in 2023, before the series launch.
The Emmy nominee is also an executive producer on the show.
‘I work on a couple other shows about young women, and it just felt like this gift to explore that, knowing that there’s all these expectations for the character,’ The Office alum admitted.
