Controversial MAFS groom dubbed ‘original Raygun’ as breakdancing footage resurfaces

Married At First Sight star Dean Wells has been dubbed the original Raygun after he shared old television footage of himself attempting to breakdance.

The former reality television star, 46, landed a spot on Dancing With The Stars in 2020 after his controversial stint on MAFS two years earlier.

Now, as Olympian Raygun makes headlines for representing Australia with her awful breakdancing performance, Dean has posted a video of his own horrific dance number on DWTS.

‘Just got selected for the Olympics,’ Dean joked in the caption of the footage which saw him take to the televised stage with more enthusiasm than skill.

Garbed in a construction worker’s hi-vis vest paired with black ripped jeans, the clip saw him clap his hands to the beat before dropping to the ground.

Dean pulled off an awkward spin move before attempting to do a single worm in the cringe-worthy performance.

The bizarre breakdancing number got him eliminated in the first week of DWTS. 

Followers flocked to the comments of Dean’s video to dub him the original Raygun and joke that he could easily qualify for the Olympics.

‘The Raygun,’ someone wrote alongside three fire emojis, while another added: ‘This is Olympics worthy.’

A third commented: ‘You could have gone to the Olympics with this routine. I don’t think the trials were very hard to get into.’

Meanwhile, others praised Dean’s performance, with one user writing: ‘You did better than the girl that represented Australia.’ 

‘You are too good for the Olympics,’ one person wrote, as yet another said, ‘So much better than PhD girl,’ referencing Raygun’s education level.

It comes after Raygun, a 36-year-old married university lecturer whose real name is Rachael Gunn, resurfaced with her Australian teammates ahead of the Olympic Games closing ceremony.

The breakdancer has been treated like a cult hero after busting out more of the moves that saw her become a viral sensation for all the wrong reasons. 

She has kept a low profile following her disastrous performance in the inaugural women’s competition, but joined her fellow Olympians in a heartwarming appearance at Sunday’s closing ceremony.

Video footage saw her showing off her iconic moves to huge ovation from her Australian teammates.

She was also lifted onto the shoulders of Aussie rower Angus Widdicombe, where she mimicked her infamous kangaroo dance move that sent fans across the world into hysterics.

A number of high-profile figures have come to Raygun’s defence in the wake of her performance, including Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese, who credited her for putting her best foot forward during the routine.

‘Raygun had a crack, good on her, and a big shout out to her,’ he told reporters in Adelaide on Sunday.

‘That is in the Australian tradition of people having a go. She’s had a go representing our country, and that’s a good thing.

‘Whether they’ve won gold medals or just done their best, that’s all we asked for. It’s the participating that is really important.’

Raygun lost all three of her round-robin battles by a combined score of 54-0 and admitted post-event that she couldn’t compete athletically with the tricks and spins of her younger opponents.
