Colin Farrell looks downcast as he grabs coffee in LA after revealing the heartbreaking reason why he’s putting his disabled son, 21, into care

Colin Farrell appeared downcast as he grabbed coffee in Los Feliz, California, on Friday, following his emotional revelation about the decision to place his son in a long-term care facility.

The actor, 48, who is currently filming Series 2 of his Apple TV+ show Sugar, was spotted picking up three coffees from a local cafe in his neighbourhood.

He kept things casual in a deep V-neck T-shirt and plaid trousers, teamed with Adidas trainers.

Colin finished the look with a camouflage headband and delicate gold and silver jewellery.

He appeared low in mood as he stood with his arms crossed, waiting by the coffee window before collecting his order.

His outing comes after Colin revealed the reason behind his decision to place his adult disabled son into care – explaining that he wants to ensure his son’s care is properly managed while he and his ex-partner are still alive, and to provide him with a strong sense of community.

The actor previously explained how son James, 21, was heartbreakingly misdiagnosed with cerebral palsy before doctors eventually confirmed he was suffering from Angelman syndrome.

Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that primarily affects the nervous system, causes severe physical and intellectual disability.

Speaking to Candis Magazine, Colin revealed he and his ex Kim Bordenave have made a decision and plan to settle James into a long-term care facility.

He said: ‘It’s tricky, some parents will say: “I want to take care of my child myself.” And I respect that.

‘But my horror would be… What if I have a heart attack tomorrow, and, God forbid, James’ mother, Kim, has a car crash and she’s taken too – and then James is on his own?

‘Then he’s a ward of the state and he goes where? We’d have no say in it.’

He and Kim are hoping to ‘find somewhere we like where he can go now, while we’re still alive and healthy, that we can go and visit, and we can take him out sometimes’.

Colin continued: ‘We want him to find somewhere where he can have a full and happy life, where he feels connected.’

Colin – who shares James with ex Kim Bordenave – explained many sufferers of the syndrome are often misdiagnosed with cerebral palsy due to the conditions having similar symptoms

    WHAT IS CEREBRAL PALSY?

Cerebral palsy is the name for a set of conditions affecting movement and co-ordination stemming from a problem with the brain that takes place before, during or soon after birth.

Symptoms are not typically obvious immediately after a child is born — but instead normally become noticeable after two or three years.

They include delays in reaching development milestones, such as:

    • not sitting by eight months;
    • not walking by 18 months;
    • appearing too stiff or too floppy;
    • walking on tip-toes;
    • weak arms or legs;
    • fidgety, jerky or clumsy movements;
    • random, uncontrolled movements;

Difficulty speaking, swallowing or seeing — along with learning difficulties — can also be symptoms.

Cerebral palsy symptoms can be caused by a number of things and are not necessarily an indication of the condition, which can occur if a child’s brain does not develop normally while in the womb, or is damaged during or soon after birth.

Causes include bleeding in the baby’s brain, reduced blood and oxygen supply, infection caught by the mother while pregnant, asphyxiation during a difficult birth, meningitis or a serious head injury – though the precise cause is often not clear.

There is no cure currently, but physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and medication are often used as treatment.

Each person living with the condition is affected in a different way, but generally speaking most children live into adult life and some can live for many decades.

The Phone Booth actor previously discussed his first-born son’s condition and said medical advice was sought after James missed developmental milestones and struggled to sit up or crawl as a baby.

Colin explained how many sufferers of the rare syndrome are often misdiagnosed with cerebral palsy due to both conditions having similar symptoms.

He told People: ‘[James] couldn’t sit up. He wasn’t crawling. I think he was a year and a half when we took him to get really checked out, and he was diagnosed as having cerebral palsy.’

Cerebral palsy is the name for a set of conditions affecting movement and co-ordination stemming from a problem with the brain that takes place before, during or soon after birth.

Difficulty speaking, swallowing or seeing — along with learning difficulties — can also be symptoms.

Colin said: ‘It was a common misdiagnosis, because it shared a lot of the same characteristics. And that was a downer for sure.’

The Oscar nominee revealed that, when James was only about two and a half years old, a pediatric neurologist suggested he be tested for Angelman syndrome.

Recalling the moment he received the diagnosis, he shared: ‘I remember the first two questions I asked were, “What’s the life expectancy and how much pain is involved?”

‘And the doctor said, “Life expectancy, as far as we can tell, is the same for you and for me, and pain, no.”‘

A doctor had noticed an unusual symptom that prompted him to test for Angelman syndrome.

Colin explained: ‘One of the characteristics of Angelman syndrome is outbreaks of laughter. And the doctor saw that James was laughing a lot and doing this movement [he waves his hands],’ the father-of-two shared.

Angelman syndrome is also characterized by seizures, which Colin – who also shares son Henry Tadeusz, 15, with Polish actress Alicja Bachleda-Curus, 41 – said is ‘one of the things that parents struggle with greatly’.

He added: ‘Thankfully, James hasn’t had a breakthrough seizure now in about 10 or 11 years, but I’ve been in the back of ambulances, I’ve been in the hospital with him.

He said: 'It was a common misdiagnosis, because it shared a lot of the same characteristics. And that was a downer for sure' (pictured: James with his mother Kim)

‘I’ve done Diastat [a sedative] up his rectum to get him out of a seizure that lasted longer than three minutes. Finding the right amount of medication that doesn’t have adverse effects — that’s all very tricky business.’

The actor is now launching the Colin Farrell Foundation to provide support, education, and advocacy for adults with intellectual disabilities.

‘This is the first time I’ve spoken about it, and obviously the only reason I’m speaking is I can’t ask James if he wants to do this,’ he said.

The proud dad stated that his eldest son ‘has worked so hard all his life, so hard’.

He said: ‘Repetition, repetition, balance, his jerky gait. When he started feeding himself for the first time, his face looks like a Jackson Pollock by the end of it. But he gets it in, he feeds himself beautifully. I’m proud of him every day, because I just think he’s magic.’

Colin also described watching his son take his first steps just before his fourth birthday.

Detailing the ‘profound’ moment to People, Colin said: ‘I knew they [James’s carers] were working on walking. And I stood over there, and she let him go, and he just came to [me].

‘It was so profound. It was magic.

‘I’ll never forget just the face of determination on him as he walked toward me. He took, like, six steps, and I burst into tears.’

James’s condition is severe enough that he is nonverbal and requires the help of a live-in caregiver to accomplish his day-to-day tasks.

When James was four, Colin went public with his Angelman Syndrome, saying his son had demonstrated ‘amazing courage’ in the face of his condition.

Shortly before James turned 18, Colin and Kim filed to obtain a conservatorship of him, noting he still needed help with tasks like getting dressed and making meals.

He later went on to reveal that he and James’s mother make sure to share in the smallest victories and enjoy the milestones whatever age they happen – including James’s first words aged six, being able to feed himself at 19, and getting his seizures under control.

Colin has maintained a very private life and has not spoken about his son in great detail until recently, although he told InStyle he first decided to ‘talk publicly about the pride and joy I had in our son’ while attending the 2007 Special Olympics.

He said: ‘He has enriched my life, but I don’t want to minimize the trials that so many families go through; the fear, consternation, frustration, and pain… When you’re the parent of a child with special needs, it’s important to feel that you’re not alone.’

Discussing being a parent to a child with disabilities, the Hollywood star said that James was the main reason he was able to get sober.

Colin and James’s mother Kim dated from 2001 to 2003. He later had Henry with his Ondine co-star Alicja, whom he dated from from approximately late 2008 to early 2010.

A person with Angelman syndrome will have a near-normal life expectancy, but they will need support throughout their life.

    Characteristics of Angelman syndrome

The movement of a child with Angelman syndrome will also be affected. They may have difficulty walking because of issues with balance and co-ordination (ataxia). Their arms may tremble or make jerky movements, and their legs may be stiff.

Several distinctive behaviours are associated with Angelman syndrome. These include:

    * frequent laughter and smiling, often with little stimulus

    * being easily excitable, often flapping the hands

    * being restless (hyperactive)

    * having a short attention span

    * trouble sleeping and needing less sleep than other children

    * a particular fascination with water

His funeral mass will be held on April 12.

Colin was born to Rita and Eamon in Dublin before his parents split and both remarried.

Speaking in the past about being raised by Eamon and Rita, Colin said: ‘I was the baby, so I got away with more. My parents weren’t as hawkeyed with me and I think my older brother got the brunt of it and my sisters a little less.

‘They will all tell you I had the easiest time, but I don’t think it was because I was the favourite, I think just as a result of my parents’ fatigue!’

Colin had previously spoken of his dad’s career as a footballer saying: ‘My parents were both originally working class, but we were middle to upper class.

‘Dad played football till he was 26 or 27; after that he owned a fish-and-chip shop by a golf course, The Little Chip Inn. Honest to God. He never let us forget the wit of that.

‘Then he had a restaurant. He has a health-food store in Dublin called Down To Earth.’

Eamon played with the Shamrock Rovers alongside his brother Tommy during the 1960s.

She appears to have taken a break in working with her brother — or at least being credited for doing so — after 2006’s Ask The Dusk, but she returned to working with the acclaimed actor in 2012.

From then on, Claudine has been credited various as Colin’s assistant, associate, and various forms of manager up through the 2018 Steve McQueen thriller Widows.

The two have continued to work together since then, but Claudine has now graduated to working as a producer on The Penguin, and as an executive producer on last year’s sports drama The Beautiful Game, which Colin co-produced.

The actor also made a moving tribute to his other family members, who had all helped his journey in one way or another.

‘My sister Catherine, who’s the first actor in the family and showed me that that was a possibility to pursue that passion,’ he shared. ‘My brother Eamon, who texted me last night that Netflix is showing this live and he’s staying up in his pajamas to watch it. Eamon, I love you. Catherine, I love you.

‘My mom, Rita, my dad, Eamon, and the two people in my life who have made my life so much more special and so much more meaningful, so much more joyful than I ever truly thought possible: my son James and son Henry,’ he added.

Colin shares his 21-year-old son James Padraig Farrell, who was born in 2003, with the model Kim Bordenave, and he shares his 15-year-old son Henry, who was born in 2009, with his ex Alicja Bachleda-Curús.

'I never thank her publicly,' he admitted, though he didn't clarify why he didn't sing her praises more often. 'I haven't noted that she's a producer and she's not my assistant. She's not my assistant,' he added for emphasis. '[She's my] sister, she's family, she's a producer'

Conclave also continued its awards-season success by winning the final honor of the night for Cast in a Motion Picture for the papal-selection drama Conclave.

The SAG Awards were held Sunday night at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

The annual ceremony, which was hosted by Nobody Wants This star Kristen Bell, was streamed live on Netflix for the second year in a row.

It was presented by the Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and bills itself as the ‘only televised awards ceremony to exclusively honor actors.’

During the hours-long ceremony, 13 awards were handed for ‘outstanding performances’ in both film and TV that were decided on by SAG-AFTRA’s 130,000+ members.

According to the official website, the SAG Awards have ‘the largest voting body on the awards circuit.’

Unlike prior years, the official SAG Awards nomination ceremony was canceled for 2025 in wake of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that broke out in January.

Instead, SAG-AFTRA shared the nominations online.

Selena Gomez wasn’t nominated for the film individually and missed out on its ensemble nomination after Conclave’s win, but she still got a boost when she accepted the best comedy ensemble award for Only Murders In The Building, which had a surprise win over competitors The Bear, Abbott Elementary, Hacks and Shrinking.

Anora had high hopes ahead of the SAG Awards, but it also went home empty-handed despite a string of wins in recent weeks that boosted its odds for the upcoming Academy Awards.

For the TV categories, Shogun was the big winner.

It’s star Hiroyuki Sanada took home the lead actor award, while Anna Sawai gave an emotional speech when she won the supporting actress prize.

The show also nabbed the best ensemble award, as well as the best stunt cast honor.

Host Kristen Bell was also among the night’s nominees, as she received a best female actor in a comedy series nod for Netflix’s Nobody Wants This alongside The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri and Hacks’ Jean Smart.

Smart proved to be unstoppable and took home the award, though she wasn’t able to attend the ceremony.

Stunt crews that have worked on the latest and greatest TV shows and movies are were also being recognized at the 2025 ceremony.

Fittingly, The Fall Guy — in which Ryan Gosling plays a stunt actor — won the film honor, while the brutal drama Shōgun won the award for TV stunt cast.

The ceremony also looked back on a legend by honoring Jane Fonda with the SAG Life Achievement Award, making her the 60th recipient of the ceremony’s highest tribute.

In a statement, SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher described Fonda, 87 — a two-time Oscar-winner with a career spanning over six decades — as a ‘trailblazer and an extraordinary talent.

‘[Fonda is] a dynamic force who has shaped the landscape of entertainment, advocacy and culture with unwavering passion,’ the Nanny star continued.

‘We honor Jane not only for her artistic brilliance but for the profound legacy of activism and empowerment she has created.’

Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning gushed over her controversial role in Baby Reindeer ‘changing her life’ as she accepted Best Supporting Actress at the Critics Choice Awards in LA on Friday.

The British actress, 38, who played Martha in the Netflix series, looked glamorous in a black gown as she took to the stage and made an emotional speech.

Clasping her Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie trophy she paid tribute to the show’s producers before thanking creator and star Richard Gadd, 35.

‘[He] isn’t here tonight, but he changed my life actually, choosing me to play Martha, so I want to say thank you to him for everyone’.

While Richard lost Best Actor to The Penguin’s Colin Farrell, 48, the smash hit show did walk away with the gong for Best Limited Series.

Jessica accepted the award on Richard’s behalf saying: ‘Richard can’t be here. He has written something he would like me to read. I’m honor and delighted. I’m sorry I can’t be there. I’m shooting my bbc HBO show set early next year’.

‘Less about my HBO show set early next year and more about how grateful I am to everyone at the critics choice for naming Baby reindeer  their favourite. Critics have always been my favourite people. Remember that when it comes to my BBC HBO show that is set to air early next year’.

‘Thank you to Netflix and Lindsey and Toby. Thanks for the amazing production partners, Matt, Ed, Petra, Veronica and Josephine and our amazing crew. Jessica, Nava [Mau] and the cast who did so much to bring the show’.

The dark comedy thriller has came under fire from those who claimed to have been depicted by the series.

Fiona Harvey came forward claiming to be the inspiration behind Martha, alleging the story was inaccurate, and filed a lawsuit against Netflix.

The ceremony got off to a strong start when Conclave earned the first award of the evening for Best Ensemble.

The film’s star, Ralph Fiennes, accepted the award for the film, which depicts the secretive and suspenseful selection of a new pope.

‘We all enjoyed being in our red skirts together,’ Fiennes joked while representing his costars, including Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow.

The win has helped cement the late-breaking Oscars momentum for Fiennes and Conclave.

The Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler, are finally taking place at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, after twice being delayed due to the devastating LA fires.

The show was first slated to take place on Sunday, January 12, before being pushed to Sunday, January 26.

But due to the venue’s close proximity to the fire-ravaged Pacific Palisades, ceremony officials decided to push the show to February.

Following Conclave’s win, the ceremony switched to television.

Hannah Einbinder and Michael Urie were the dual winners in the best supporting actor and actress in a comedy categories, for Hacks and Shrinking, respectively.

The two gave a hilarious acceptance speech in which they began delivering their speeches at the same time, speaking over each other.

They were followed by the winners in the supporting categories for limited series or movie made for television.

Liev Schreiber won in the men’s category for The Perfect Couple, while  Shōgun scored two back-to-back wins with supporting actor and supporting actress in a drama series for Tadanobu Asano and Moeka Hoshi.

Hoshi was tearful as she accepted her award after traveling to the US from Japan, though Asano wasn’t able to be at the ceremony

She shared her thoughts for Los Angeles in the wake of its devastating fires.

‘I was so shocked to see how much this beautiful city has changed because of the fire,’ she said emotionally. ‘My heart goes out to those who have lost their homes and loved ones. Please remember that you are not alone. Even from Japan, I always think of you and remember you. My thoughts are always with you.’

The ceremony then changed pace with the best animated feature award, which went to the acclaimed film The Wild Robot.

Colin Farrell continued to steamroll the competition when he won for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television for his performance in The Penguin.

Farrell was made unrecognizable by heavy layers of prosthetics to allow him to play the Batman villain, whose name was shortened to Oz Cobb for the series.

He originated this version of the role in the blockbuster film The Batman, which starred Robert Pattinson as the title superhero.

Farrell showed off his inescapable charm as he joked about again thanking the show’s makeup department ‘for reasons that are beyond me.’

The show was first slated to take place on Sunday, January 12 before being pushed to Sunday, January 26.

But due to the venue’s close proximity to the fire-ravaged Pacific Palisades, ceremony officials decided to push the show to February.

Wicked, Conclave and Shogun lead the nominations.

Wicked scored the most Critics Choice Awards 2025 nominations including major nods for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as the musical ties Conclave for the most nominations with 11.

Both Wicked and Conclave are also up for the biggest prize of all in Best Picture.

The two films will face off against an impressive field including: A Complete Unknown, Anora, The Brutalist, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Perez, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing, and The Substance.

Ariana, 31, is up for Best Supporting actress as she will take on Danielle Deadwyler – The Piano Lesson, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor – Nickel Boys, Margaret Qualley – The Substance, Isabella Rossellini – Conclave, and Zoe Saldaña – Emilia Pérez.

Cynthia will also face stiff competition in the coveted Best Actress category as she is up against: Karla Sofía Gascón – Emilia Pérez, Marianne Jean-Baptiste – Hard Truths, Angelina Jolie – Maria, Mikey Madison – Anora, and Demi Moore – The Substance.

Transgender actress Gascon, who has been slammed for resurfaced ‘racist’ social media posts, is not expected to be in attendance with her Emilia Perez castmates.

Wicked is centered around Elphaba (Erivo), a misunderstood young woman because of her green skin, and Glinda (Grande), a popular girl, become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. After an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads.

Conclave is centered around Fiennes’ character Cardinal Lawrence who is tasked with leading one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events, selecting a new Pope, he finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could shake the very foundation of the Catholic Church.

Rounding out the top individual honors is Best Supporting Actor which features: Yura Borisov – Anora, Kieran Culkin – A Real Pain, Clarence Maclin – Sing Sing, Edward Norton – A Complete Unknown, Guy Pearce – The Brutalist, and Denzel Washington – Gladiator II.

Both Wicked and Conclave are up for Best Acting Ensemble against Anora, Emilia Pérez, Saturday Night, and Sing Sing.

Best Director will be a contentious category as the field includes: Jacques Audiard – Emilia Pérez, Sean Baker – Anora, Edward Berger – Conclave, Brady Corbet – The Brutalist, Jon M. Chu – Wicked, Coralie Fargeat – The Substance, RaMell Ross – Nickel Boys, and Denis Villeneuve – Dune: Part Two.

Behind the two frontrunners with most nominations were Dune: Part Two and Emilia Perez which each landed 10 nods.

The Brutalist had nine while Anora and The Substance trailed slightly with seven nominations each.

The Critics Choice Awards are not only bestowed to honor the finest in films but television as well.

Spelling and the 58-year-old Polar Opposites actor both requested joint legal custody (and she wants sole physical custody) of their kids in the divorce filing.

The nepo-baby of TV producer Aaron Spelling and Dean had been sleeping apart for three years before they legally separated, and he checked himself into rehab for substance abuse following an explosive fight in January 2023.

The former Oxygen reality stars were both married to other people when they originally met on the set of Lifetime’s Mind Over Murder way back in 2005.

Speaking of her ex-husband Charlie Shanian, Tori just confessed about cheating on him weeks before they wed in 2004 with none other than Colin Farrell.

‘He goes, “Hi.” And I go, “Hi.” And then we just start making out. In the middle of the W Hotel…it went on quite a while, like full on locked lips, making out in public. This is a no no for celebrities,’ Spelling revealed on her misSPELLING podcast Tuesday.

‘This is paparazzi central. If they got that picture, someone pulled up their phone, that would be like big news. So, we try not to get caught doing things like this. Yeah, it happened. We parted and smiled at each other. I just walked away.’

On the same episode, the former DWTS contestant also confessed to having her ‘one and only’ threesome with an undisclosed man and a woman while filming the sixth season finale of Beverly Hills, 90210 on the Queen Mary in Long Beach back in 1995.

‘I’m definitely into boys,’ Tori noted of her sexuality.

Last November, Spelling wrapped her acting role as a mother searching for her missing daughter in Damián Romay’s Florida-set thriller Lost in The Everglades – premiering March 2 – which she also executive produced.

The 9021OMG podcaster will also portray a fortune teller in Jed Shepherd’s interactive horror video game Ghosts, which Visible Games and Limited Run Games will release later this year.

Tori – who commands $169 on Cameo – is every bit the influencer with paid partnerships for companies like Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa, Dressed in Lala, The Black Sheep Fam, and Tipsy Elves.

Tori Spelling reveals the ‘biggest A-list movie star’ she’s been romantic with as she talks about wild sex life

Tori Spelling has dished on another star during her popular podcast MisSpelling.

The reality TV star named the biggest A-list movie star she has ever gotten romantic with.

The lucky man is Irish actor Colin Farrell, 48, who has been in such films as The Batman, The Penguin and The Gentleman.

Colin has also romanced another hot blonde: Britney Spears. In her memoir The Woman In Me, the Toxic singer said she was with the swarthy star for two weeks.

Spelling said she was engaged to Charlie Shanian and was set to wed him in only a few weeks when she had her encounter with Colin. The year was 2004 and Tori was 31-years-old at the time.

The Hollywood staple ‘made out with’ the Oscar nominee at the W Hotel on a dare from her friends.

‘I walked right up to him. We looked at each other,’ she recalled. ‘He goes, “Hi.” I go, “Hi.” And we just started making out.’

Spelling joked she finally ‘checked the moment off her bucket list’ after she and Farrell flirted at her agent’s office many years before that.

On the same episode, Tori admitted that once she had a threesome.

The hookup took place on the famous ocean liner the Queen Mary, which is docked in Long Beach, California.

The star was in one of the many hotel rooms inside the liner. And she was filming the season six finale of Beverly Hills, 90210 in the mid 1990s. Tori was about 22-years-old at the time.

‘It was me, a male and a female,’ Spelling said. She did not name her bed pals.

Turns out it was not her cup of tea to roll around with a man and a woman at the same time.

She thought she would love it but she really thought ‘less’ of it than she expected.

Tori admitted she made out with female friends in public because it was fun to watch men ‘drool’ but when she got in bed with a man and woman, it fizzled.

The experience was far from sexy as she felt ‘nervous’ and ‘anxious the whole time.’

But she was happy to have taken the chance: ‘You know what they say: You’ve gotta try anything once. I came away like, “I think I’ll stick to boys.”‘

She also said that she would ‘try anything once.’

That hints that the star – who is single – may be up to more wild sexual hi-jinks in the future.

Heidi Klum’s Halloween countdown begins as she slowly reveals her costume

Halloween has plenty of traditions, from candy to jack-o’-lanterns – and the annual spectacle of Heidi Klum’s costume.

Today she will reveal her latest look.

The supermodel-turned-TV personality is fond of surprising her guests with her elaborate costumes, like in 2022, when she arrived at the event on the end of a fishing line, encased in a slithering worm costume.

‘I just wanted to be something random,’ she explained while lying on the floor for maximum worm-like effect. ‘I don´t think I´ve ever seen anyone being a rain worm before.’

Last year, she enlisted the help of several Cirque du Soleil performers as the tail feathers to her peacock costume.

‘A lot of planning goes into it, you know,’ Klum said through her peacock beak, with husband Tom Kaulitz next to her, dressed as an egg. ‘Because first, you have to have an idea.’

At her 2008 party she dressed as Kali, the Hindu goddess of death and destruction – complete with multiple arms, dangling heads and a deep coat of blue body paint.

Klum told The Associated Press she would immediately be planning her look for the following year. ‘After tonight I´ll be thinking about what I´ll do next year. It´s always got to be different. Completely different,’ she said.

Other notable Klum costumes over the years have included a giant Transformer, a clone (complete with several Klum-lookalikes) an elderly version of herself, and an alien experiment gone awry.

The star has also transformed into a terrifying butterfly, an ape, a cat, a crow – and cartoon characters including Jessica Rabbit and Fiona from ‘Shrek.’

Her tip to those still trying to decide what to wear this Halloween? Leave the store-bought masks at home.

‘I personally don´t like it when people hide behind those full masks. I prefer when people get a little bit creative and they play with their face, when they put a lot of makeup on,’ she told the AP in 2007. ‘I always love that the most on me, I really go scary on the face.’

Yes my son is disabled, but I think he’s perfect as he is

When people run into Colin Farrell and his elder son James near Colin’s home in Los Angeles, they will sometimes approach him to ask him what’s wrong with the young man.

‘And I always tell them about it,’ Colin says. ‘Maybe some people’s feelings are hurt by that question, but my feeling is, “If you want to know about it, just ask.” So if someone says, “Is that your son, what’s going on with him?” I’ll say, “I’ll tell you what’s going on with him…”’

What’s ‘going on’ with James Padraig Farrell, 21, Colin’s son with former girlfriend Kim Bordenave, an American model, is that he has Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder named after British paediatrician Harry Angelman, who identified it in 1965. It results in a happy personality but severe intellectual and developmental disabilities, with symptoms including seizures and difficulties with both speech and movement. It is incurable, and yes, says Colin, it is highly visible.

‘We all have significant struggles,’ he says. ‘But for most people they’ll be about emotional or psychological stuff, which is not to be sneezed at, it’s very serious. But if I look around me now, I wouldn’t know that anyone had struggles. Everyone looks healthy, everyone looks present. When James walks into the room you go, “Wow, what’s that dude got going on?” It’s significant.’

Yes my son is disabled, but I think he’s perfect as he is

Colin Farrell with his son James, who has Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder which results in a happy personality but severe intellectual and developmental disabilities

Before becoming a father, Farrell, an A-list movie star and legendary lover of both alcohol and women, had seemed to float free of the obstacles we lesser mortals must deal with

Until James came along, Colin’s life had been, by any measure, fairly free of challenges. Handsome, charming and happy-go-lucky, an A-list movie star and legendary lover of both alcohol and women, he seemed to float free of the obstacles we lesser mortals must deal with. He’s had a stellar movie career, most recently with 2022’s The Banshees Of Inisherin, which was nominated for nine Oscars, and he’s currently riding high on TV in the title role of the acclaimed but violent Batman spin-off The Penguin, in which he plays Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobb, the brutally disfigured mobster who reinvents himself as a super-villain.

As The Penguin, Colin is barely recognisable under layers of prosthetics, and he has said that with the prosthetics and the dark side of his imagination he had to access to play the role, he found the experience quite a challenge. ‘Don’t get me wrong, I loved it,’ he told movie magazine Total Film. ‘But it got in on me a little bit… It’s not like I didn’t know who I was and I was going out and burning cars and s***, but… it was a really powerful experience.’

In 2003, when James was born, Colin and Kim both assumed parenthood would be smooth. ‘We thought he was perfect,’ Colin says, before quickly correcting himself. ‘Well, he is perfect, he’s a lovely young man, but we thought he was physically and neurologically perfect too. At first he was misdiagnosed as having cerebral palsy, which is common because cerebral palsy and Angelman syndrome share similar characteristics. But by the time he was two he was already having seizures, and I knew he had profound developmental delays.’

His son’s challenges made Colin look at life very differently. ‘You really do take nothing for granted,’ he told me once. ‘There’s a deep sense of fear – I’ve run through hospitals with James in my arms when he was having a seizure – but there’s also a deeper sense of love and respect. You know how a child’s first steps are a seminal moment in the life of the parent? Well, if you’ve been told there’s a chance your child will never walk at all, those steps take on a whole new meaning. They go into another realm.’

So Colin, who at one point estimated he was drinking three bottles of Jack Daniels, 12 bottles of red wine and 60 pints of beer per week, along with using various other substances, gave up drink and drugs. ‘James was two when I got sober,’ he says, ‘and part of the fuel that I used to get off alcohol and drugs and all that stuff was knowing he had health issues. All children need their parents – or a parent or grandparent or somebody – to care for them, and one of the things James taught me was to access within myself a desire to live, even if it was initially more about me thinking I wanted to live to be around for him.’

He talks less in public about his younger boy Henry, 15, son of another former partner, Polish actress and singer Alicja Bachleda-Curús, simply because there is less he feels he needs to say. But it’s clear he loves both sons equally. ‘Both my boys have taught me. I feel they’ve raised me more than I could ever raise them. That sounds twee but it’s true. Whatever man I am today has a lot to do with my parents and my upbringing, sure, but it’s also very much to do with what my boys have asked of me.’

But it’s James we are talking about today. Colin says he could not be more proud of him. ‘James is incredibly strong, brave and self-willed. He works so hard to achieve the physical capabilities that most of us nail by the time we’re two or three. But he’s lovely. He’s funny as f***, cheeky as anything. He’s got a smile that would light up Manhattan – he has such a gorgeous spirit and he’s loads of fun to be around.’

Nevertheless there are limits to communication with James, who is non-verbal. ‘I talk to him as I’m talking to you now, as if he’s a master at the King’s English. We have chats and all that but I don’t believe James has the level of comprehension some people say he does. I hope I’m not wrong, because there’s an awful lot of shame there. I want to meet him where I think he is – and I think he’s perfect as he is.’

Colin and Kim have remained in close contact throughout James’s life, and have agreed that, now he’s 21, it’s time for them to find him somewhere to live where he can be taken care of professionally.

‘Some parents say, “I don’t want to put my child anywhere, I want to take care of my child myself.” And I respect that,’ he says. ‘But my horror would be, what if I have a heart attack tomorrow and, God forbid, Kim has a car crash in a month and she’s taken too? Then James is on his own. He’s a ward of the state and he goes where? We’d have no say in it. He knows when somebody wants to be with him and when somebody’s just supposed to be with him. So if he has a carer or a teacher or a therapist and they’re not fully engaged he’ll just switch off. What his mother and I want is to find somewhere he can go, while we’re still alive and healthy, that we can visit and take him out. We want him to find somewhere he can have a full and happy life.’

Will it be traumatic for James? ‘I know my son. He’s had enough of me. He’s had enough of his mother – she’d say the same! He’s ready to get out of the house and go and have a bigger life than we can afford him, by having a sense of community he feels connected to, by going out every day, going to the supermarket and doing the shopping, going to the beach, museums, the movies, all that kind of stuff. Just a connected life.’

It was his and Kim’s horror at the lack of suitable facilities that inspired him to found the Colin Farrell Foundation, an organisation dedicated to helping families who have members with intellectual disabilities.

‘It’s been a struggle for us to find suitable residential care for James, and I thought, “If I’m having these difficulties what about all the other families out there that don’t have anything close to the means I have?” I’ve always known I wanted to do something about this, but until now I’ve been self-centredly busy raising my kids. Now I feel I have more space to do something.’

Among the first steps is a star-studded gala – with guests rumoured to include some of Colin’s Hollywood pals – to be held on 7 December in Chicago. ‘That’ll be our coming out into the community. A lot of the community will be there, and a lot of donors – there’ll be some big high-rollers there. In February I’m going to Washington to speak in front of the press. I’m also going to visit a couple of senators who have been kind enough to reach out.’

Would he care to divulge the political leanings of those senators? No, he would not. ‘I don’t give a f*** whether they’re Republican or Democrat because I’m neither – I won’t be cast as anything politically. Someone said to me about one senator, “But he’s a Republican.” I said, “Are you joking me?” None of this is about Republican or Democrat or liberal or conservative. This is about doing the right thing by our children.’

Heidi Klum got an unceremonious soaking as she visited Disneyland Park in California with husband Tom Kaulitz on Sunday.

The German supermodel traded red carpets for rafts while embarking on the popular theme park’s Grizzly River Run with musician Tom.

Sporting hooded water-proof jackets and accompanied by Heidi’s children, the couple let their hair down on the ride, which is loosely based on Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s treacherous Kali River Rapids.

Heidi, 51, was later seen with her hood pulled tightly over her tousled blonde hair as her raft came to a stop.

Earlier that day she wore a spooky Halloween themed pair of Micky Mouse ears and a bold graphic T-shirt while posing for photos at the Anaheim resort.

Heidi admitted the ‘fun’ each year is doing her best to ‘outdo’ her previous costumes, which bodes well for this year’s offering.

She added: ‘Every year, I go all out with my costumes, so each one holds its own special place in my heart.’

Heidi continued: ‘The fun is in trying to outdo myself every year, but what really makes it memorable is the excitement and joy of the whole Halloween experience — there’s just nothing like it.’

In the new ‘The Box Is Back’ campaign, Heidi appears with ‘Project Runway’ designers Erin Robertson and Kentaro Kameya, and ‘Making The Cut’ duo Ciara Chyanne and Jonny Cota.

Colin Farrell opens up about struggles playing The Penguin

Colin Farrell talked about his difficulties playing Batman character The Penguin and admitted he is shallow and insecure during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

The 32nd series of the hit BBC talk show returns on Friday night with Colin sharing the red sofa with Lady Gaga, Demi Moore, and musicians Jack Savoretti and Miles Kane.

A regular on the show, Irish actor Colin, 48, quickly got comfortable and told host Graham, 61, all about his experiences filming Batman spin-off The Penguin, in which he plays the titular villain.

Colin said: ‘In the end I was a bit miserable and angry. I remembered how much Jim Carrey hated The Grinch makeup and whilst I didn’t get to that level, I did struggle especially as the subject matter was so dark.’

He added: ‘It is a huge relief now that it is out and people think it is all right. If you are shallow and insecure like me, you are expecting a slap in the face so a rub on the back is definitely preferable!’

Colin Farrell talked about his difficulties playing Batman character The Penguin (right) and admitted he is shallow and insecure during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show

Colin sported a fat suit, facial disfigurations, and a balding head of hair for the role – a far cry from his trim, luscious-haired self.

DC Studios miniseries The Penguin follows criminal Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobb / The Penguin, former chief lieutenant of deceased crime boss Carmine Falcone who is on the rise to becoming a criminal kingpin in his own right.

The Penguin is a spin-off of the 2022 film The Batman which starred Robert Pattison as the titular hero.

Colin’s Penguin originated in this film, but was portrayed by Danny DeVito.

The Batman is an origin story so Penguin is not yet the crime kingpin he is depicted to be in the comics, likewise Batman is not yet an experienced crime fighter.

Matt Reeves, the film’s director, compared the character of Penguin to Fredo Corleone (John Cazale) from The Godfather (1972), due to ‘the insignificance that he lives within, in a family that is full of very strong, very bright, very capable, very violent men’.

As well as Colin, the series stars How I Met Your Mother’s Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Carmine, Penguin’s boss.

The Penguin was first announced back in 2021 and is set one week after the events of The Batman.

The series debuted on the Max streaming serving on September 19 in the States and UK viewers can watch it on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
