Cindy Crawford: Dismissed for Choosing Modeling Over College

Cindy Crawford grew up in Illinois as a straight-A student, becoming valedictorian of DeKalb High School in 1984, and receiving an academic scholarship to study computer engineering at Northwestern University.

But the 59-year-old beauty with brains quickly dropped out of college in order to fulfill her supermodel destiny, which led to much judgment.

'People immediately treated me like I was dumb,' Crawford told OK! Magazine on Tuesday. 'I wasn't.'

The Meaningful Beauty co-founder continued: 'Growing up, I wanted to be the first woman president of the United States. Then I wanted to be a doctor or maybe a teacher. Even now I could imagine myself in a job like that. I loved school.'

Indeed, in an episode of MTV's House of Style, Crawford paged through her yearbook which detailed her being on the math team, Illinois State Scholar, National Honor Society and she was very active on the student council.

'This is my modeling in my high school yearbook,' the hot host recalled sarcastically. 'Flashdance inspired all the way.'

So when outsiders scoffed at her choice to glow in front of the camera, Crawford coped 'by knowing myself and understanding that it was more a reflection on those people than it was on me.'

'Back in my day, there was this terrible assumption that if you were a model, you were dumb,' the brunette bombshell explained.

'Models now have a voice in a way we really didn't back then. Social media has given models the opportunity to show who they are as a person and that they're not just a magazine cover.'

Crawford is turning the big 6-0 next week and she's ready to 'embrace it.'

'Everyone feels a little bit insecure. We still live in a very ageist world, which is hard, but at the same time we tend to be so self-critical too,' she said.

'I don't know why that is but you have to push past that, no matter what age you are. You just have to embrace it, be yourself and also let other people be themselves. We all need to be less critical.'

Crawford is 'loving life with my husband and enjoying having adult children' after decades of her and second husband Rande Gerber being 'so busy.'

She and the 63-year-old Casamigos co-founder have been impressively married for 27 years.

Crawford's 24-year-old daughter Kaia Gerber has followed in her modeling footsteps and has a series regular acting role in Apple TV+ show Palm Royale.

The inseparable couple's son Presley Gerber hosts 'Mental Health Mondays' where he's listed all the medications he's taking for depression and insomnia: Buprenorphine, Xanax, Valium, Remeron, Belsomra and Melatonin.

'They make me feel good or at least all right for the time being,' the heavily-tattooed 26-year-old explained in a since-deleted Instagram video on December 29,.

'The better you're taking care of your body, so - nutrition, physical activity, those kinds of things - medications, for me personally, seem to work better.'

Gerber - who's seen 15 psychiatrists - added: 'I'm feeling good about where I'm at now.'
