Christina Perri Files for Divorce from Paul Costabile, Seeks No Spousal Support

Christina Perri filed for divorce from her husband Paul Costabile on Monday just weeks before their eighth wedding anniversary.

The A Thousand Years singer, 39, cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ for their split in court documents seen by TMZ.

Christina listed the date of their separation as the same day she filed the papers.

The couple have a prenuptial agreement in place and Christina has sought to terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support to Paul, 41, an entertainment reporter and TV personality.

She has also applied for joint custody of their two daughters Carmella, seven, and Pixie, three.

Paul and Christina met in 2013 when she came into the iHeartRadio studio for an interview where he worked as a DJ.

He previously shared a photo of the two of them standing in front of a green screen in honour of their marital union after they tied the knot at New York’s City Hall four years later.

Paul wrote in the caption: ‘4 years ago today I met my dream girl in this room. 4 years later today I married my dream girl and my best friend.

‘Pretty sure I’m the proudest I’ve ever been to be able to call the most bellissma person + woman I’ve ever known now my wife!!!’

He added: ‘Whoa. I thank God for the gift of her, our relationship, our bambino on the way, our family’s love and support and this unforgettable year.

‘And for friends and fam wondering… invites to an official shindig coming soon… now I’m going to go scream because I AM that guy.’

Christina revealed their engagement news one month prior; she showed a close up of her ring and wrote: ‘Paul asked me to marry him tonight & I said yes!’

The couple have had their fair share of struggles as they suffered a devastating pregnancy loss two years after the birth of their first daughter.

Their daughter Rosie was stillborn due to complications and the pair also suffered a miscarriage in January 2020.

The brokenhearted singer released a lullaby album in the baby’s honor, titled Songs For Rosie.

The Jar Of Hearts singer compiled a lullaby album when Carmella was born, saying ‘there was a sense I had that I absolutely needed to make one for (Rosie) too.’

Christina has previously been open about her experiences of motherhood – turning her hit song A Thousand Years into a book about being a parent because she wanted to showcase her ‘real life’ and be open about issues such as lack of sleep.

She told PEOPLE: ‘All I do is live my real life, in the season of motherhood and singing to my girls. It’s been my favourite part. It made so much sense.

‘With each of these projects, we didn’t overthink it or try something that was inauthentic. I didn’t want to go backward and pretend that I didn’t become a mom.

‘I didn’t want to pretend that I’d actually slept for six years. I’d rather everyone know where I’m at and that 100 per cent made sense for me.’

She added: ‘Because the audience has grown up with me, people have followed along. Their lives are legit following the same timeline and are on the same trajectory as mine.

‘It feels like such a sweet spot in music and creativity and I’m really grateful for it.’

The pop star revealed she was trying to sing to her youngest at bedtime but revealed that the little one had become picky about which song she wanted to hear.

She said: ‘Last night, I was laughing hysterically because my almost two-year-old, Pixie, is so particular. I call her my spicy one. I asked her if I could sing to her when I was putting her to bed and she says yeah.

‘So I start singing all the different songs and each time, she goes, “No, no,”.

‘I went through my whole lullaby album and I was like, “Girlfriend, what do you want?” Finally, I said, Pixie Dust, which is a song I wrote for her, and she said yes. She knew.’

The Daily Mail has has reached out to representatives for Christina for comment.
