Chris Pine once again displayed his affection for short shorts when he was spotted in a vibrant red pair while out in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The 43-year-old Star Trek star — who rocked a bathrobe to plug his directorial debut Poolman — showed off his muscular physique in tiny shorts and a green tank top while stopping at a newsstand in the tony town of Los Feliz.
With his salt-and-pepper locks left long and loose, the matinee idol added his signature slip-on huarache sandals to the mix.
The outing comes after Chris responded to The O.C. casting director revealing he lost out on a lead role in the TV teen drama due to his acne.
‘It’s a part of my life,’ Chris said on Thursday’s Happy Sad Confused podcast. ‘The man didn’t have to talk about it. I mean, it’s his prerogative.’

He continued: ‘It’s no fun having bad skin. It’s no fun going to auditions when you have bad skin. It was one of the most traumatic points of my life, but it is my story.’
In the Welcome to the O.C.: The Oral History book released in 2023, casting director Patrick Rush discussed Chris auditioning for the role of Ryan Atwood, a part that ultimately went to Ben McKenzie.
‘I hate saying this, but it’s the truth: Chris Pine was at the age where he was experiencing really bad skin problems. And it was at that point where it looked insurmountable,’ Rush said in the book, per Deadline. ‘And as a kid who grew up with horrible skin, it just broke my heart.’
On the podcast, Chris mentioned that being reminded of missing out on the chance to star in the Fox series triggered ‘a bit of PTSD’ for him.
The star also acknowledged that he had ‘awful skin as a teenage.’
He added: ‘Look, I was going out for The O.C., like a teenage melodrama. I can understand why they wanted to have pretty people doing pretty things. And bad acne is not a key to [success].’
Although Chris missed out on a role in the popular series that aired from 2003 to 2007, his path quickly diverged, leading him to star in The Princess Diaries 2 shortly thereafter.

‘I don’t think there is anything to defend,’ Chris quipped in reference to his October outfit consisting of a tiny pair of shorts paired with a mustard yellow hoodie and brown loafers. ‘It’s called short shorts, isn’t it? It’s supposed to be short.’
He doubled down, adding, ‘Corduroy short shorts. I mean, it’s a vibe. It’s the best vibe. It’s like a Tom Selleck vibe. It’s like a ’70s surfer vibe. I prefer that.’
The Wish star was referring to actor Selleck who famously played Richard on Friends, and, before that, made a name for himself as the short shorts-wearing TV detective Magnum P.I.
‘It’s like showtime. Lakers—would you rather see them with the short shorts and Magic Johnson looking like a basketball player and athlete, rather than wearing some sort of capri on the floor?’ Chris hilariously continued. ‘No. So, I’ll be wearing the short shorts.’
As for how long he’s going to be showing off his gams? ‘Until the legs go,’ he confessed.
Chris’ defense of his sartorial choices comes after he recently took inventory of his meme-worthy personal style and described it as ‘jiggy,’ per People.
His ‘jiggy’ style was evident on his most recent trip to a gym, where he took Twitter by storm after serving up a scoop-neck PBS tank top, figure-hugging leggings (once again) and slip-on huarache sandals.
The kicker was Chris’ rainbow-sherbet-striped cashmere smoking jacket, which truly sparked the social media firestorm, as one follower called out the hunk as a ‘Los feliz mom driving her prius to drop off her kids at nondenominational quaker high school’.
Another user tagged the look as if ‘Lisa Rinna got bitten by a werewolf’, as Chris rocked a shaggy head of hair and beard.
Despite the last-minute aesthetic, Chris isn’t settling on thrift store finds: the colorful sweater is by celeb-favorite brand The Elder Stateman and retails for a mere $2,395.
Chris is no stranger to a good ribbing online, as he was the talk of the Twitter town during most of the promotional tour for Don’t Worry Darling, including the famous ‘Spitgate’ with Harry Styles.
At a press conference for the film, Chris — rocking long hair, a navy blazer and headphones — had a somewhat disinterested gaze and was even caught staring at the ceiling at one point.

The Dungeons & Dragons star hilariously clapped back during an Esquire interview, saying, ‘It should be known, that the press conferences in Venice are in one of the most gorgeous buildings I’ve ever seen. The ceilings are like blue and gold.
‘So there’s one of these [memes] where I’m looking up and really what I’m thinking is, “How can I do that to my ceiling?” That was going through my head’.
In the same interview, Chris defended his esoteric fashion sense, calling it ‘f****** awesome”‘ and ‘ridiculously cool.’
He added that it’s been compared to Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band and the Bee Gees.
