Lloyd's father Darren has died, the star has confirmed.

The singer, who shot to fame as a teenager on the 2010 series of The X Factor, shared a heartbreaking Instagram post on Wednesday.

Sharing a screenshot of a text message exchange with her dad, Cher, 32, wrote: 'Life will never be the same again. I've never felt pain like this. My Dad, I love you. Goodnight 10.03.73 - 11.04.26.'

The text message from Cher in the photo read: 'I love you dad. More than you'll ever know,' with Darren replying: 'I know you do. And I love you more and more each day see you tomorrow.' 

In 2020 Cher revealed her father was 'seriously unwell' in hospital. 

The X Factor star previously said she feared for her dad's health after he had been hospitalised twice during the lockdown.

She told fans she was concerned for her dad during the pandemic as he suffered from pre-existing health conditions.

She explained at the time: 'I'm sorry I've been quiet on here – I find it difficult to share my personal life at the best of times but I feel I need to let you know what's going on. My dad has been seriously unwell and is in hospital.'

'This has been really difficult on us and my heads all over the place. I wish I could see him and I wish I could be with my family to support them, especially mum.

'We can't be with dad but I'm so grateful to the doctors and nurses for looking after him. This is such a scary time for everyone. I hope you are keeping safe.'

Cher later said that waiting for her dad to get better had 'been the hardest thing' about being in . 

Swagger Jagger singer Cher has made a slow return to the spotlight recently with her single Green Light dropping in April 2025. 

She is famed for first stepping on the X-Factor stage at 16 in 2010 and impressing Cheryl Cole, Simon, and with her song, Turn My Swag On.

She went on to place fourth and signed with Cowell's record label Syco Music.

She released her debut album Sticks And Stones in 2011 which featured the number one single Swagger Jagger.

Her second album Sorry I'm Late followed in 2014 and reached number 21 on the UK Albums Chart.

Three years after signing with Cowell the young singer left Syco and revealed she and the music mogul had disagreed about her career path and how she couldn't handle that level of 'control'.

Fast forward to January 2025 and Cher appeared to hit out at  in her single, Head Down, in which she sings 'You sold me the dream, I was just seventeen, chewed me up, spit me out'.

In a video promoting her single, which is part of her upcoming third studio album, she said: 'I wrote this song about when it feels like you're the only one when it feels like you've hit a brick wall.

'The music industry can be dark at times. Some of the stories may never be told but mine is yours to hear.'

The same year she left Cowell's label, Cher married her boyfriend of two years, Craig Monk, and in May 2018 they welcomed their first daughter, Delilah-Rae. Their second daughter, Eliza Violet was born in 2023.
