Cher fans have been left divided after Dua Lipa performed hit track Believe with her live at the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland on Saturday night.
Dua, 29, looked incredible as she sauntered on stage wearing a daring black leather dress with fishnet stockings and sexy boots as she began singing the 1998 hit song.
The crowd at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse went wild when 78-year-old Cher joined Dua onstage wearing her own sultry black leather outfit and started belting out the lyrics to one of her most-loved tracks.
However, upon watching the performance, fans rushed to X – formerly known as Twitter – to slam Dua and claimed she wasn’t the right choice to perform with Cher at such an important occasion.
‘Cher is such a vocal power house that I genuinely pity Dua Lipa for having to sing with her,’ one person posted, while another wrote: ‘No way it took Cher serving vocals for people to realize Dua Lipa is a mediocre vocalist.’

A third person said: ‘I don’t know Dua Lipa music, but I must say she’s not a vocalist. This was such a mid performance of an iconic Cher song. Where was the Rock and Roll?’ while a fourth claimed: ‘Dua Lipa ruined that song she sounded horrible love Cher she sounded amazing per usual.’
Another person joked: ‘Y’all started calling Dua Lipa this generation’s Cher and Cher took that personally,’ and someone else said: ‘No cause why Cher came in and showed everyone Dua Lipa was fighting for her life.’
A different fan pointed out: ‘I fear Dua Lipa only gets Cher comparisons because she’s tall, songs in a lower register and has dark hair. Otherwise they’re very different artists!’
Another person fumed: ‘Holy crap… This video tells you the modern history of what has happened to pop music in just two minutes. Current superstar Dua Lipa looked absolutely SPECTACULAR, but was completely unable to hang vocally with a 78-year-old Cher. How is this not career-ending for Lipa?!’
Someone else posted: ‘Could they not have got a better singer like Dua Lipa is pretty, but her music is… she’s not a vocalist LOL like what were they thinking?… Cher deserved better she could have sang that by herself.’
Kind of defending the younger singer, a different X user said: ‘Dua Lipa is fab but Cher almost 50 yrs older outsings her here… Legend!!’ and another wrote: ‘I love Dua Lipa, but I suspect they chose her because some of her outfits are very Cher-coded, not because their voices are compatible.’
A different person claimed: ‘Cher sounded better here than on her overly auto-tuned original but Dua Lipa sang about 90 per cent of this. Just a couple phrases from Cher,’ while another fan replied and argued: ‘Excessive autotune was not to correct anything in the original. It was used for the novelty of the effect, and it worked.
‘And Cher totally outsang Dua Lipa here. She just showed she has better chops,’ they added.
One fan said they ‘pity’ Dua Lipa for having to sing with ‘vocal power house’ Cher
Someone else claimed that Dua Lipa is ‘not a vocalist’ and described it as a ‘mid performance’
Another fan fumed on X that Cher ‘deserved better’ and could have performed the song by herself

Another fan suggested: ‘I think they’re focusing on the fact that Cher came out and started belting out her part, showing off that lung capacity like Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, or Aretha Franklin. Dua Lipa is awesome but not known for power vocals.’
Cher also performed a rendition of her 1989 hit song If I Could Turn Back Time after being introduced by Euphoria actress Zendaya.
‘Where do I even begin? Cher is not one person. Her name is just as legendary as her legacy,’ the 28-year-old told the star-studded crowd.
Zendaya noted that Cher is the only woman to have a No. 1 hit on a Billboard chart in each of the past seven decades, as she added: ‘Cher has got the goods!’
Dua later took to Instagram and shared some snaps of her and Cher with Zendaya, and captioned the post: ‘An absolute honor to pay tribute last night to THE ICON & LEGEND @cher as she gets inducted into the @rockhall (about bloody timeeee if you ask me)!!!!
‘Grateful beyond words to have shared the stage with @cher and @theroots to sing “Believe” what a dream come true!!! ~PINCH ME PLEASE~.’
