Cher will be in a sequel to one of her biggest hit films.
This week Amanda Seyfried told E News that the iconic singer is going to appear in Mamma Mia 3 after they were both in the second installment, 2018’s Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.
The Mean Girls actress, 39, said: ‘Cher is definitely going to be in it. I mean I wouldn’t want to do it without her at this point.’
But the film is not that far along as she joked, ‘There’s got to be a contest where somebody writes Mama Mia 3.’
In November Cher said MM3 is highly possible and she would love to play Ruby Sheridan, mother to Donna (played by both Meryl Streep and Lily James) and grandmother to Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) once again.

‘We’re talking about it,’ the Oscar winner told Entertainment Weekly. ‘I don’t know when they’re going to do it, but I know they’re talking about it.’
Amanda also said firmly to E News: ‘Mamma Mia 3 is gonna to happen,’ adding a joke: ‘You’re going to see it in movie theaters before 2038.’
She then said: ‘Yea, that’s all I can say that’s with certainty. Yes I can say that with certainty.’ Amanda did the interview to promote her new limited Peacock series Long Bright River.
Amanda also wants Streep back even though her character died in 2018’s Mamma Mia Here We Go Again.
Streep played Donna Sheridan-Carmichael.
‘That was an amazing experience and really fun,’ she admitted of her time making the musical hit. ‘And I took it on a lark because Mary Louise (Streep) was in there, and I love her. The idea that I was her mother was hysterical.’
In the interview Cher continued her lobby for her friend’s return: ‘I keep saying, “Meryl, you’ve got to come back,”‘ she recalled telling Streep, 75.

The If I Could Turn Back Time star’s desire for a third installment came more than a year after Judy Craymer, the creator of the musical and the two movies, hinted at the possibility of a new film chapter in the franchise.
It’s in its earliest stages, Craymer told Deadline of a potential of a second Mamma Mia sequel. ‘There is a story there, and I do think Meryl [Streep] should come back – and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna.’
Along with Streep, her ideas for a third film include ways to bring back all of the fan favorite characters such as Cher’s Ruby and Seyfried’s Sophie.

Cher previously said she wants co-star Meryl Streep back as Donna Sheridan-Carmichael, despite her character being revealed to have died in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
