Emmerdale viewers were left in complete shock as they were faced with a huge twist during the tense Christmas special.
During the festive episode, Woolpack landlady Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) was forced to shoot Chloe Harris’ father Damon to save her husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb).
Viewers already knew Mack had been kidnapped by Chloe’s father Damon ‘Harry’ Harris (Robert Beck) – and during the latest episode, Charity was let in on the secret.
Chloe told her father that she was going for a walk with baby Reuben, but escaped back to the village in the hope of seeing her sister before she flees abroad.
However, as she ran into the cottage, Damon followed her without her realising and told her that her plan to free Mack had failed and threatened to kill him.

Harry grabbed his daughter Chloe and forced her into his car to leave the village but as they did so, Charity and Chas, who remembered Harry from when he kidnapped her, saw them.
Charity and Chas (Lucy Pargeter) were quick to follow the pair and made their way to a warehouse where Mack was being held and tortured.
But as Charity went to search, Chas, who was still traumatised from her kidnapping, stayed hidden to call the police.
All did not go to plan as Chas was soon found by one of Harry’s thugs, until Charity reappeared and knocked him out with a piece of wood.
Charity then sent Chas outside to find help as she went back in and found Harry beating Mack almost to death.
Attempting to give Mack some more time, Chloe tried to stop her father’s horrific assault but instead Harry pulled out a gun.
Chloe quickly stood between Mack and her gun-holding father as Mack realised that Charity was there.
She said: ‘If you kill him I will report you to the police myself and don’t think I won’t.

As Harry went to shoot Mack, Charity ran at him prompting Mack to knock Harry down and as the pair scrambled for the loose gun, it went off with Harry dropping to the ground
‘You’ve never loved me, you don’t even know who I am. Because of you my self-esteem is so crushingly low that I didn’t think I deserved more than him.’
Harry joked: ‘That’s a lot to unpack, why don’t we discuss it over dinner? Now move.’
But as Harry went to shoot Mack, Charity ran at him prompting Mack to spring up and knock Harry down to the ground.
Charity and Harry both scrambled for the loose gun and as they did so it went off, with Harry dropping to the ground as Charity looked horrified.
