Chappell Roan’s ‘Extreme’ Photo Rules Revealed After Red Carpet Meltdown

Chappell Roan’s ‘Extreme’ Photo Rules Revealed After Red Carpet Meltdown

Chappell Roan and her team are making sure history doesn’t repeat itself with a new set of rules for the red carpet, one year after her explosive meltdown.

In order to prevent a scene from the Grammy winner at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, a red-carpet attendant cautioned photographers to tread carefully before Roan’s appearance.

‘Okay, Chappell’s coming. No one yell at her or she will leave,’ the woman can be heard saying in the video. ‘Be quiet, be nice, smiley.’

Some photographers laughed at the instruction, but it appeared to have its intended effect.

When Roan stepped onto the carpet rocking, she was greeted with an unusually calm and respectful press line.

The pre-event warning came after Roan’s past red-carpet blowups went viral.

At the 2024 MTV VMAs, she famously clashed with a photographer who shouted ‘shut the f**k up’ by snapping back, ‘You shut the f**k up – not me, b**ch.’

Then, at the the premiere of Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour, the star confronted the photographer and accused him of being ‘disrespectful’ toward her at the Grammys.

‘You were so rude to me,’ she told him. ‘And I deserve an apology for that. You need to apologize to me.’

Given that history, fans immediately understood why her team might be setting ground rules this time around.

‘You can even hear how polite they are with Chappell after the warning,’ one viewer wrote. ‘So it’s clear that it worked.’

Still, the incident sparked an online firestorm, with many calling Roan’s new rules extreme.

Critics accused the rising star of becoming ‘insufferable.’

Some claimed she ‘only loves the money part about being famous,’ while others said she was ‘nothing special’ and ‘chose the limelight’ — implying that dealing with photographers comes with the job.

One person fumed that ‘they’re not yelling at her – they’re simply trying to get her to look at them so they can get a good photo among tons of photographers there.’

Another scoffed, ‘She’s no Madonna,’ while others added that she ‘gets paid millions [and] has a horrid attitude.’

A few even questioned her staying power, with one remarking, ‘That girl isn’t going to be famous much longer – she’s too much.’

But many fans rushed to her defense, applauding Roan for asserting herself in an environment known for chaos and disrespect.

‘See what happens when you stand up for yourself?’ one user wrote, while another added, ‘She demanded the respect, so she got it.’

Supporters argued that Roan wasn’t being a diva – she was simply asking to be treated like a human being.

‘I hate that they’re acting like she’s a diva and that this is an abnormal request,’ one fan said. ‘She’s just asking to be treated like a person and not be yelled at.’

Others praised her for ‘teaching people how you want to be respected’ and said photographers should be ‘nice to the people they’re making money off of.’

One commenter argued, ‘If they can’t be polite, they should have their credentials pulled.’

Fans also called for industry-wide change.

‘Why don’t they brief the press to act this way to everyone?’ one wrote. ‘Her incident should have made them change for everyone, not just have them treat her specifically nicer.’

Another summed it up simply: ‘They should just be nice to everyone – but obviously shoutout to Chappell for standing on business. There are worse reputations to have.’
