Chappell Roan Fights Back Against Stalking and Abuse

Chappell Roan complained about people who cross her boundaries in a series of TikTok posts on Monday.

The singer-songwriter, 26, whose fame has been rapidly rising this year behind her hit record The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, made an impassioned statement on the social media platform amid a series of negative experiences.

‘I need you to answer questions – just answer my questions for a second: If you saw a random woman on the street, would you yell at her from your car window?’ the Willard, Missouri native said.

She continued, ‘Would you harass her in public? Would you go up to a random lady and say, “Can I take a photo with you?” and she says, “No, what the f***?” – and then you get mad at this random lady?’

Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, continued to describe scenarios in which she feels her personal privacy has been breached.

‘Would you be offended if she says no to your time – because she has her own time?’ the Good Luck, Babe! artist said. ‘Would you stalk her family? Would you follow her around? Would you try to dissect her life and bully her online?

‘This is a lady you don’t know and she doesn’t know you at all. Would you assume that she’s a good person, assume she’s a bad person? Would you assume everything you read online about her is true?’

Said the Hot to Go! performer: ‘I’m a random b****, you’re a random b**** – just think about that for a second, OK?’

Roan rejected the notion that she should accept the unwanted attention amid her rising profile.

‘I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous, whatever,’ Roan said. ‘I don’t care that it’s normal. I don’t care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job, the career field I’ve chosen.

‘That does not make it OK, that doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean that I want it, that doesn’t mean that I like it.’

Roan said she didn’t want ‘whatever the f***’ people think they’re ‘supposed to be entitled to whenever [they] see a celebrity.’

Roan said she didn’t ‘give a f***’ if people thought it was ‘selfish’ of her ‘to say no for a photo or for your time or for a hug – that’s not normal – that’s weird.’

The Pink Pony Club vocalist said that she didn’t understand how people assumed they were allowed to breach her personal space because they are familiar with her work.

‘It’s weird how people think that you know a person just because you see them online and you listen to the art they make,’ Roan said. ‘That’s f***ing weird! I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior, OK?’

Roan captioned the post, ‘Do not assume this is directed at someone or a specific encounter. This is just my side of the story and my feelings.’

Roan’s career has been picking up steam amid her outings at Lollapalooza and Coachella, and seven singles charting on Billboard’s Hot 100.
