Chappell Roan has divided fans with her latest comments on fame as she expressed that her outspoken nature has prevented her from being ‘more successful’ in the industry.
The Good Luck, Babe! songstress, 26 — who opened up about her struggles working at a drive-thru during the pandemic — said she would be ‘bigger’ if she ‘wore a muzzle’ during a new interview with BBC published on Sunday.
The star has garnered backlash over the past months after slamming her ‘weird’ fans and threatening to quit fame — with some social media users blasting her for ‘complaining.’
She also went viral after furiously clapping back at a photographer at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards last year in September.
Following the incident, the performer had been labeled as a ‘spoiled diva,’ while others came to her defense.
However, Roan explained that she would stay true to who she is and stated, ‘I’ve been responding that way to disrespect my whole life — but now there are cameras on me, and I also happen to be a pop star, and those things don’t match.’

‘It’s like oil and water,’ Chappell continued. ‘I think, actually, I’d be more successful if I was okay wearing a muzzle.’
‘If I were to override more of my basic instincts, where my heart is going, “Stop, stop, stop, you’re not okay,” I would be bigger.’
The star further told the outlet, ‘I would be way bigger… And I would still be on tour right now.’
Back in September 2024, Roan cancelled shows to focus on her mental and physical health – including music festival appearances.
The star then remembered a phrase her grandfather had always told her. ‘There’s something he said that I think about in every move I make with my career. There are always options.’
‘So when someone says, “Do this concert because you’ll never get offered that much money ever again,” it’s like, who cares?’
The Pink Pony Club hitmaker added, ‘If I don’t feel like doing this right now, there are always options. There is not a scarcity of opportunity. I think about that all the time.’
Fans soon jumped to X to share their thoughts on the star’s comments on fame, with one penning in support, ‘Her honesty is everything. Success shouldn’t come at the cost of staying true to yourself.’

Roan has been open in discussing dealing with her rapid rise to fame and last year in August, the songstress shared a rant on TikTok as she slammed ‘weird’ fans.
She then explained that she refused to accept ‘stalking’ and ‘harassment’ as ‘normal’ behavior from fans.
And while talking Interview Magazine that same month, she also admitted that she didn’t care about being a success in the music industry.
In September, Chappell told Rolling Stone stated that she was ‘frustrated’ people were only now taking her seriously.
‘What’s so infuriating is how people are just now taking me seriously,’ she expressed. ‘Like, “You know what, b***h? I’ve been doing this s*** and you’re just now catching up.”‘
‘Part of me hopes I never have a hit again because then no one will ever expect anything from me again,’ she added.
But Chappell explained that music is her passion. ‘It’s my dream job. I never know if it’s going to be like this ever again, which is kind of scary.’
However, some fans were once again left unimpressed and jumped to X to share their thoughts, with one penning, ‘All she does is complain.’
Another typed, ‘I am tired of hearing about this woman all she does is complain,’ while one shared, ‘Girl, can you enjoy for a sec? You complaining about everything is kinda annoying.’

In September 2024, Roan went viral when she clapped back at a photographer on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards.

‘No! Not me, b****!’ she continued, and others in the area applauded the star’s response in the situation.
The following month, the singer demanded that the photographer ‘apologize’ to her over the heated exchange.

The 2025 Grammy Awards are still set to air next month on February 2 following the deadly L.A. fires.
Roan has garnered a total of six nominations, and the star previously told The Face in September: ‘I’m kind of hoping I don’t win.’
‘Because then everyone will get off my a**. ”See guys, we did it and we didn’t win, bye!” I won’t have to do this again!’
The performer then added that, ‘My mom would love to go to the Grammys or the Brits.’
