Channel Nine Star Leaves After 25 Years: ‘It’s Been a Huge Workload’

Veteran Channel Nine presenter Clint Stanaway is set to depart the network after 25 years, to focus on his radio career.

The Weekend Today host, 42, announced the shock news on Tuesday in a statement as he admitted he had been dealing with a significant workload that he hoped to minimise.

‘It’s been a huge workload juggling both TV and being part of the Melbourne Nova breakfast team over the past couple of years,’ Clint began.

‘I am passionate about my newfound love for radio and have decided to give it priority moving forward, while I also look to strike a better work/life balance.’

He began his media career in the news library at Melbourne’s GTV9 in the early 2000s and steadily rose through the ranks.

Clint later honed his reporting skills at WIN Television in Bendigo, before returning to 9News Melbourne, where he took on the role of news and court reporter.

Several years later, the veteran journalist was appointed Weekend Sport Presenter for 9News Melbourne.

Across his sports journalism career, he covered many major events, including the Olympic Games and the Melbourne Cup.

Clint thanked his Nine colleagues for being supportive towards him over the years, as he hinted he might one day return to the network.

‘I’ve always treasured my job, be it on 9News, as co-host of Weekend Today or as part of the Wide World of Sports team,’ he said.

‘I’ve met so many wonderful people, shared some incredible stories and experienced the most unforgettable moments. The thrill of live television is so addictive, it’ll never leave me.’

‘While I step away with a heavy heart, I suspect it won’t be forever. The Nine family has been so good to me, and for that I’ll be forever thankful.’

In March 2024, Clint was announced as the newsreader for Nova 100’s new breakfast team, Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips.

To celebrate, the trio joined Married at First Sight relationship expert John Aitken for a cheeky video to send up the famed reality series.

The short clip started as if it were a ‘commitment’ segment from MAFS, with Aitken asking Jase and Lauren about their ‘relationship’.

‘We can’t put our finger on it, but there’s something not right,’ Jase answered.

Lauren, seated on the couch next to Jase, played along with the joke by telling the MAFS coach: ‘There’s definitely something that’s making me feel a bit hollow… like there’s something missing,’

Aitken then suggested the pair ‘spice things up’ by adding a ‘third’.

The camera then cut to Clint sitting on the far end of the couch.

Lauren was then seen moving to hug Clint while an disgruntled-looking Jase exclaimed: ‘Well I didn’t know that was going to happen…so this is how it’s going to be.’
