Channel Nine called out as promotional video featuring bizarre AI errors is ‘pulled off the air’

Channel Nine has responded after a strange promotional video featuring an AI version of the Brisbane skyline reportedly went to air this week.

The clip included a view of the city at night – but the famed Story Bridge was mistakenly depicted twice, sitting at both ends of the CBD.

In addition, non-existent skyscrapers dotted the skyline and the Brisbane River was shown opening to a bay – topography that also does not exist in reality.

The clip was produced in Sydney and aired in Queensland before it was pulled off the air, the Courier Mail reported on Tuesday.

While the Courier Mail said staff were ‘fuming’ over the clip, when approached by the publication, Channel Nine denied the error went to air.

‘Any incorrect imagery is picked up during usual production checks and processes,’ a spokesperson said.

Daily Mail has reached out for additional comment.

Channel Nine has faced controversy in recent months amid an ongoing shakeup at the network.

In November, Amber Sherlock took a dig at Nine as she spoke publicly for the first time since her shock exit from the network was confirmed.

In a sensational off-script moment, newsreader Georgie Gardner confirmed the veteran’s departure when she offered an unexpected farewell to her axed colleague.

The 9News Sydney weather presenter, 49, then broke her silence, sharing a lengthy message on Instagram as she hit back at Nine’s recent string of layoffs.

‘Nearly 20 years anywhere is a milestone, but to be in your lounge rooms every evening has been a privilege,’ she began.

‘From my early days as a finance journalist, to reading the Qantas news and becoming the inaugural newsreader for Weekend Today, I’ve been fortunate to present across almost every bulletin including the Morning News, Afternoon News, 6pm News and Late News.’

She also paid tribute to the departure of her Melbourne counterpart, Livinia Nixon, who left the network last week, before lashing out at Nine for ending ‘an era’ of ‘dedicated’ weather presenters.

‘It seems like it’s the end of an era for dedicated 6pm weather presenters as ‘streamlining’ seems to be the prevailing forecast. Good luck to whoever is brave enough to tackle the new BOM website,’ she said.

At the time, Nine confirmed to Daily Mail that a restructure was underway in order to drive ‘commercial growth’.

The company expects to cut jobs across its newsrooms nationwide, including its Queensland bureaus.

‘We have today commenced consultation with some team members, whose roles within Nine’s Streaming and Broadcast division are impacted by our new operating model,’ the Nine spokesperson said.

‘The new operating model formally brings together teams across Stan, Channel 9 and 9Now. It is designed to reduce duplication, drive greater collaboration and deliver commercial growth for Nine, while working to offset the challenging external advertising market.’
