A rising Gen Z media star tipped to one day replace on the Today show has finally addressed the swirling speculation.

Chaad Hewitt, the 21-year-old Bond University journalism student and social media sensation with nearly 500,000 followers, was all smiles as he attended - just days after reports emerged he had been 'hand-picked' as a future breakfast television contender.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail, Hewitt played coy when asked directly about rumours he could be groomed as Stefanovic's eventual successor.

'Just wait and see,' he said with a grin.

Despite the growing industry chatter, the young presenter made it clear he has nothing but admiration for the veteran Channel Nine star.

'He's a big hero of mine, and I look up to him more than I could ever say,' Hewitt said of Stefanovic.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail, Hewitt played coy when asked directly about rumours he could be groomed as Stefanovic's eventual successor

The viral journalist, who has built a loyal fanbase online through his polished interviews and relatable charm, revealed his university peers have rallied behind his rapid rise.

'Everyone's really supportive of me and I'm very privileged to be in the position I am,' he said.

Currently completing his final semester at Bond University, Hewitt confirmed major life decisions are looming as he considers his next move after graduation.

'There's a few options on the table… it's all a big, tough decision,' he admitted.

'It's the adult world now.'

This marks Hewitt's second year attending Australian Fashion Week, and he declared 2026's event his best yet.

'This has 100per cent been my favourite year so far,' he said.

He singled out the Commas runway show - which powered through Sydney's torrential rain - as one of the week's defining highlights.

Adding to the charm of his Fashion Week appearance, Hewitt was joined by his sister, who made a rare cameo despite usually preferring life off camera.

The speculation surrounding Hewitt's future comes as reports continue to intensify over Karl Stefanovic's long-term role at Nine.

According to The Australian's Media Diary column, the Today show host has 'signed a memorandum of understanding' with radio giant ARN, paving the way for a potential switch once his current Nine contract expires in December.

The report suggests Karl is already eyeing a major name to join him behind the microphone, with former Project host  tipped as a possible co-host. 

Bickmore currently fronts a national drive program on the Hit Network.

ARN's newly appointed chief executive Michael Stephenson is also said to be targeting a string of high-profile Australian media identities as part of a broader talent overhaul, including , Ray Hadley, and Erin Molan.

Speculation around Stefanovic's future was further fuelled by entertainment reporter Peter Ford, who shared a bold prediction during a segment on 3AW Breakfast.

'It's certainly been common talk within the industry for a couple of months now - Karl was only signed to a new one-year contract this year,' Ford said.
