Maura Higgins, Perrie Edwards and Chloe Burrows couldn’t contain their excitement as they led the celebrity reactions to the news that The Summer I Turned Pretty will be continuing with a feature film.
After waiting three seasons to find out which of the Fisher brothers Belly (Lola Tung) ultimately ends up with, fans finally got their answer when the coming-of-age romantic drama dropped its hotly-anticipated finale on Wednesday.
And while many were left sobbing by the near ‘perfect’ final installment, their tears were soon turned into squeals of joy when it was announced that there would be a film continuing the story.
The movie will be written and directed by Jenny Han to conclude the story, which is based on her book trilogy about Belly choosing between two brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
Plot details are being kept under wraps for now but the exciting news was revealed on the red carpet at a glamorous event in Paris on Wednesday to celebrate the season three finale.
Jenny said: ‘There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due.

Fans were understandingly jubilant at the news, taking to social media to voice their shock and excitement.
And among them were several famous faces, with Love Island star Chloe being one of the first to react, commenting on The Summer I turned Pretty’s official Instagram announcement post: ‘UHHHH I LOVE SO MUCH’.
She then reshared the news to her Instagram Stories in the middle of the night with the caption: ‘Just woken up randomly and seen this. I want NO jeopardy just a beautiful lovely love story from you two pls’.
While fellow former Islander Jessie Wynter filmed a video of herself celebrating the news, as she gushed: ‘THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY MOVIE?!! IT’S NOT OVER’.
Sharing the clip to her Instagram, she admitted her surprise, writing: ‘TSITP movie !! Who else is SHOCKED by this??! Sooo excited!’

The film news came Jenny dropped a huge hint there could be more as season three concluded on Wednesday.
At the end of the episode, there was a letter from Jenny, dropping a hint that this won’t be the last fans see of Cousins.
It read: ‘Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love you’ve shown The Summer I Turned Pretty all these years. Whether you’ve been with Belly since the very first book or joined us with the show I’m so grateful you’ve made Belly’s story part of your summers.

‘Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins. Until then – all my love always, Jenny.’

Episode 11 – named At Last – revealed which of the siblings Belly’s heart really lies with, after calling off her wedding to Jeremiah because she still has feelings for his brother and her ex-boyfriend Conrad.

The end of the previous episode showed Conrad changing his flight from Brussels to Paris in order to surprise Belly on her birthday, which they typically spend together.
The finale began with Conrad arriving on Belly’s doorstep after she gave him the address to her new apartment.
They then enjoy a steamy birthday night together before the final scene of the show sees them heading back to Cousins hand in hand.
Viewers shared their thoughts after tuning into the final episode and admitted they couldn’t hold back their tears as they watched the rollercoaster ride.
Taking to social media to share their thoughts, they said: ‘Me? Crying because The Summer Turner Pretty has ended? Yes and’; ‘It was perfect. My emotions those last 15 mins lol’; ‘I’m already crying. I’M IN SHAMBLES JENNY’;

While most loved the fairytale ending to the show, some argued that they were disappointed that they didn’t get a wedding scene between Conrad and Belly.
They said: ‘Sorry but the ending was not enough’; ‘But what does it mean!??!’; ‘Rushed ending… unnecessary scenes with Paris friends. No wedding. So saaaaad!’; ‘I just don’t get why we couldn’t get the happy ending of seeing them get married or at least engaged. Too much on wanting to prove Belly had evolved into this new persona…’
‘WHERE’S MY WEDDING. DROP IT RN THERE’S NO WAY I WAITED 2 YEARS FOR THAT JENNY’; ‘Season 4, here we come’; ‘We needed a wedding scene we waited three seasons it was a perfect ending maybe another 10 mins of them being engaged or getting married and the ocean would have been the best as ocean was there thing.’
Another said: ‘But but but… but what about the wedding dress, the ring, Susannah’s letter and and and…’
The exclusion of a wedding scene, which features in the epilogue of the third book, caused a stir among the fanbase.
But the movie news reversed the frustration, with many speculating the nuptials would indeed be included, but in the feature film.
