Beloved comedy actress Catherine O’Hara is returning to television for the second season of the HBO hit drama The Last of Us.
HBO confirmed that the Second City alum would be playing an as yet ‘undisclosed role’ in the series based on the popular PlayStation game on Friday.
The official word comes after the Best in Show actress made an appearance on Andy Cohen’s, 55, Watch What Happens Live on Thursday and a fan asked her if the rumors that she’d be joining the cast were true.
‘How do you know these things?’ O’Hara, 69, said, before confirming: ‘It’s in discussion – yeah.’
O’Hara is best known for her roles in Christopher Guest’s films, the Home Alone franchise, Beetlejuice and as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek.

O’Hara will join series stars Pedro Pascal (pictured in January) and Bella Ramsey as well as fellow newcomers to the cast including Dopesick’s Kaitlyn Dever , Isabela Merced and Beef’s Young Mazino
O’Hara cracked a joke, saying: ‘Wait, what? Do you work on the show? And you’re about to quit and you just want to give everything away?’
She also revealed a family connection to the show. ‘My son’s a set dresser on the show,’ she shared with Cohen.
O’Hara will join series stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as well as fellow newcomers to the cast including Dopesick’s Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced and Beef’s Young Mazino.
The series takes place in a post-apocalyptic world 20 years after the end of modern civilization and follows survivor Joel, played by Pascal, who is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie (Ramsey) out of the quarantine zone.
A virus has infected humanity and caused a zombie outbreak.
What was supposed to be a small job becomes a brutal journey as they must depend on each other for survival while they travel across the U.S.
The second season of The Last of Us is expected to start shooting later this month in O’Hara’s native Canada and premiere on HBO in 2025.
O’Hara is one of the most celebrated comedic actresses of her time and will be cutting her teeth on a drama series on The Last of Us.
Previously it was rumored that O’Hara would play a brand new character on the show rather than an established character from the video game, which was first revealed by reporter Daniel Richtman.

O’Hara also known for her work in films of Christopher Guest including Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and Waiting for Guffman and for her roles in Beetlejuice, Home Alone and Home Alone 2.
And she has a history with HBO. She played Carol Ward on seasons three and five of Six Feet Under.
