Dancing On Ice’s Colin Grafton admits he almost QUIT show’s last ever series following tragic death of former celeb partner and ‘beautiful friend’ The Vivienne – despite months of training with new pairing Mollie Pearce

Dancing on Ice pro Colin Grafton has admitted he almost quit ITV show’s last ever series earlier this year following the death of former professional partner and friend The Vivienne.

The Drag Race UK star, whose real name was James Lee Williams, died January 5 just days ahead of the show’s launch, from a cardiac arrest after taking ketamine, following years of sobriety and being open about their battle with drugs.

Colin, 33, and The Vivienne made history on the show back in 2023 as the entertainer became the first drag queen to compete and together reached the final, before being pipped to the post by eventual winner Olympian Nile Wilson.

But Colin said the passing of his ‘beautiful friend’ left him unsure if he could return to the rink, despite already having spent months training with new partner and The Traitors star Mollie Pearce, 23 – the show was later ‘rested’ by bosses following plummeting ratings.

He told The Mirror: ‘It was really tricky for me to get my head in the right place to do the series, I actually had a lot of thought of if I was going to do it or not. My partner Mollie was just so fantastic and was there for me along with the other pros and everybody really.’

‘It was very challenging, but at the same time… Mollie and I had put in so much work and I know that’s what Viv would have wanted me to do. Go out there and show everybody our hard work and that’s how we did it.’

Colin made his debut on the show in 2023 with The Vivienne being his first celebrity partner, something he said made their partnership even more special .

‘Obviously very sad of passing, so that’s another reason I had to take some time after the [2025] show just to process as I had no time during the show. That whole season [with The Vivienne] for me was just very special.’

Following The Vivienne’s death Colin took to Instagram with a heartbreaking tribute and penned: ‘I can’t believe I’m writing these words. It is with an extraordinarily heavy heart that I say goodbye to my beautiful friend and skating partner, The Vivienne.

‘Viv was and is a true icon in every sense of the word, and inspired thousands of people far and wide with everything they did and accomplished.’

He continued: ‘They truly brought light into every room they entered, and gave so many people hope where there was none. I am truly heartbroken.

‘What we were able to accomplish together on Dancing On Ice was truly remarkable and I know your bravery and our partnership inspired many people.

‘I will always be so proud of what we accomplished. Viv, your spirit, strength, and kindness will always stay with me and with everyone you touched. I will forever cherish our time together on and off the ice, you will forever be my Mary Poppins.

‘I promise to carry your memory with me in everything I do. You taught me so much about so many things, and I am eternally grateful. Your legacy lives on.’

Last week The Vivienne’s sister Chanel said the family only learned of the star’s struggle with drug addiction after watching them on RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2019.

In a 2019 episode of the show, the Liverpudlian revealed to viewers they had been addicted to ‘party drugs’ for four years.

‘I couldn’t leave the drugs at the party, it was constant,’ they said, breaking down in tears.

The Vivienne also previously described ketamine as their ‘breakfast, lunch and dinner’ at the height of addiction and at one time their drug use led them to be hospitalised three times in a single month.

Although Chanel said her brother had managed a long period of sobriety before relapsing, they had kept this later drug use hidden from them as well.

Chanel said she was now been left wondering if there was something she could have done something to prevent her brother’s tragic death.

‘Had I asked the questions or just looked for the signs, would the outcome be different?’ she told the BBC.

The Vivienne, was found dead in their bathroom of their home, in Chorlton-by-Backford, near Chester.  Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, with the family later revealing the drag queen’s heart had stopped due to ketamine side effects.

Chanel said she believed that — despite her brother speaking openly about prior drug struggles — their successful career had made it difficult to seek help.

‘He was at the height of everything he was doing and I think because he’d said it in such an open platform, it’s really difficult to come back and say you’re struggling again,’ she said.

Chanel said she and her family are now to tackle the stigma surrounding addiction as part of her brother’s legacy.

‘It’s hard for me because I think if that stigma wasn’t there, would my brother have sought the help he needed,’ she said.

‘To think that if we’d known, or if he’d have felt able to talk and really reach out for the help that was needed, the outcome could’ve been different.’

    WHAT IS KETAMINE?

Ketamine is a powerful general anesthetic that is used to stop humans and animals experiencing pain during operations.

It started being used as a party drug in the late 2000s, with people taking it before raves for a more intense experience.

It is used as an anesthetic, and has been in the national spotlight since the death of Colorado’s Elijah McClain, who struggled with police and was injected by paramedics with a dosage appropriate for someone weighing 200 pounds. He weighed 143 pounds. Colorado is now trying to limit first responders’ use of ketamine and other chemical restraints.

    What are the side effects?

Ketamine causes a loss of feeling and paralysis of the muscles.

It can also lead to people experiencing hallucinations and a distortion of reality, which many call entering the ‘k-hole’.

This is when people believe they have spoken to God or a higher power, which can lead to addiction as they crave that experience.

Ketamine may also cause people to feel incapable of moving, or lead to panic attacks, confusion and memory loss.

Regular users can seriously damage their bladders, which may need to be surgically removed.

Other risks include a raised heart rate and blood pressure.

Paralysis of the muscles can leave people vulnerable to hurting themselves, while not feeling pain properly can cause them to underestimate any damage.

Many claim ketamine withdrawal is worse than any other drug, with some feeling so depressed they contemplate suicide.

If you are having suicidal thoughts, contact the Samaritans here.

How is it taken and what is the law around it?

For medical use ketamine is liquid but the ‘street’ drug is normally a grainy, white powder.

In 1999, ketamine became a Schedule III non-narcotic substance under the Controlled Substances Act. It currently has accepted medical uses for short-term sedation and anesthesia.

In 2019, the FDA approved a version of the drug for treatment-resistant depression, which is only available at a doctor’s office or a clinic.

Is illegal use of ketamine common?

In May 2023, a new report found that law enforcement agencies seized more than 1,500 pounds of ketamine in 2022 – about 12 times more than in 2017.

Tennessee, Florida and California had the most seizures of the drug. However, it’s not clear whether those states have the highest usage.

Medical-grade ketamine is typically in a liquid form and is often administered through an IV.

But most of the illegally obtained ketamine was in a powder form, which means it risks being contaminated with other chemicals, in particular fentanyl.

How many people die from ketamine use?

Exact data is hard to come by: unlike with cocaine, heroin, or opioids the CDC does not publish the data on monthly and annual deaths.

The number is low, especially when compared to drugs such as fentanyl, which in 2022 killed almost 74,000 people.

‘When he was nominated for the Metro award for rising star last year he was honoured and made up to be here. So whilst it is extremely bittersweet to be here without him, being under this roof meant the world to him.

‘Thank you to everyone for your huge love and support to James and an amazing night. Thank you so much.’

The Vivienne was catapulted to international fame after winning the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019.

But amid their rise to fame, Williams also battled with drug addiction – something they openly spoke about in the past.

News of their sudden and unexpected death last month sparked an outpouring of grief, with hundreds of family, friends and fans gathering in their adopted home city Liverpool to release green balloons into the air to The Vivienne’s favourite songs from Wicked.

Last month mourners including Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Kim Woodburn, Jade Thirlwall, Aston Merrygold and Claire Sweeney attended the TV star’s funeral in Denbighshire, North Wales.

The crown and sceptre The Vivienne won on Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK were carried into the church ahead of their coffin, family and a host of stars.

Many wore green for the service while Vivienne Westwood badges were worn on the lapels of some of the men’s suits.

Floral tributes in the hearse read ‘Vivienne’, ‘James’ and ‘Son’.

The Vivienne died from a cardiac arrest after taking ketamine, the performer’s family revealed in March.

The star was found dead in the bathroom of their home, in Chorlton-by-Backford, near Chester, on January 5 this year, an inquest in February heard.

Their manager and friend Simon Jones said on Instagram that he and the the family feel it is ‘important to say how James tragically died’, after The Vivienne reportedly died due to cardiac arrest caused by the anaesthetic ketamine.

Mr Jones added: ‘We hope that by us releasing this information, we can raise awareness about the dangers of ongoing ketamine usage and what it can do to your body.

‘Ketamine usage is on the rise, particularly amongst young people, and I don’t think the full dangers of the drug are being discussed.’

He added they hope to work with mental health and addiction service Adferiad to ‘raise vital awareness and give information on how to get help if you are struggling with ketamine usage’.

A post mortem found The Vivienne’s cause of death was ‘unnatural’, a coroner was told during the February hearing, but no further information was revealed about how the TV star died.

A fourth was made up of purple flowers in the shape of a witch’s hat – a nod to their Wizard Of Oz stint.

Born in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, Williams grew up watching Lily Savage on TV, citing that as their first exposure to drag.

Describing Wales as a ‘big-fish-in-a-small-pond situation’, the star moved to Liverpool aged 16 to pursue a career as a makeup artist, first working on the beauty counter in Debenhams.

It was there that they earned their nickname The Vivienne for dressing entirely in Vivienne Westwood, developing their budding passion for drag while going out with friends in the evenings.

Williams shot to wider fame after winning the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

They competed in the seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2022 and finished third on Dancing On Ice in 2023.

During their career, The Vivienne also competed on an all-winners season of the RuPaul franchise in the US in 2022, the only UK contestant for that series.

They also starred in BBC Three show The Vivienne Takes On Hollywood in 2020, and appeared on Channel 4’s Celebrity Hunted For Stand Up To Cancer in 2022.

The Vivienne was due to be back on tour this month performing in The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang musical in the role of the Childcatcher.

The news of Williams’ death was announced by their publicist Simon Jones, who described Williams as an ‘incredibly loved’ and ‘amazing person’.

EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: ‘What devastating news. Sleep easy beautiful soul. Thankyou for being you.’

Paying tribute on Instagram, Oti Mabuse said: ‘Some news hits you harder than others and stops you in your tracks. I absolutely loved The Viv. A beautiful human being, funny, kind, a trailblazer, creative and so warm.’

The Vivienne’s character notices Ted’s comedic potential in the episode and offers him a spot amongst the other drag queens on the bill at the club.

The tribute read: ‘In memory of The Vivienne, a trailblazing icon whose kindness, wit and artistry enriched the world of drag.

The Vivienne died suddenly last month

The Vivienne was found dead by their heartbroken father and stepmother on the first weekend of January, a friend claimed.

Cheshire Police said officers were called to an address in Chorlton-by-Backford at 12.22pm on Sunday January 5 following reports of a sudden death.

Officers said that they found ‘no suspicious circumstances’.

Born in Colwyn Bay, Wales, in April 1992, Williams grew up watching Lily Savage on TV, citing that as their first exposure to drag.

Describing Wales as a ‘big-fish-in-a-small-pond situation’, the star moved to Liverpool aged 16 to pursue a career as a makeup artist, first working on the beauty counter in Debenhams.

The Mail revealed yesterday that the shocking tragedy has also cast doubt of the future of Drag Race UK, with host RuPaul debating stepping back from the show.

The icon, 64, was said to be ‘absolutely devastated’ by The Viv’s death and has been ‘in bits’ about the sudden loss.

Breaking his silence on The Vivienne’s death on Monday, RuPaul told his six million Instagram followers: ‘With a broken heart, I join the entire Drag Race universe in mourning the loss of The Vivienne – an incredibly talented queen and a lovely human being.’

Alongside the post was a throwback photo of James, out of drag, and posing next to his idol.

But, the tragedy has weighed so heavily on RuPaul that he is now ‘seriously considering’ stepping away from his hosting duties on the show.

A friend of the star told the Mail: ‘This has come like a bolt out of the blue for Ru. The Vivienne was one of his brightest stars and everyone knows what a soft spot he had for them.

‘He has been left absolutely devastated by their passing and is now weighing up his own future. Ru is now seriously considering standing down from hosting the UK franchise, which will always be associated with The Viv.’

For some time RuPaul has confided in those close to him that his filming schedule is packed and he ‘isn’t getting any younger’.

What’s more, he believes the show is in ‘good hands’ with his co-presenters Michelle Visage, Alan Carr and Graham Norton.

But, without its eponymous host, fans of the show are sure to question how long it can continue – if at all.

Meanwhile, RuPaul and best friend and co-host Michelle, 56, are said to planning a ‘very special tribute’ to The Viv at DragCon this weekend, to ‘celebrate and not just mourn’ the performer.

There will also be a memorial booth on the ‘pink’ carpet where attendees can pay tribute, with an insider saying: ‘They want to fill the room with love’.

‘I’m the lucky one to have known you and to have laughed together with you so many times. I love you my darling.’

James adopted The Vivienne as a drag name from a love of Vivienne Westwood clothing and had been on the verge of a superstar career.

TV chiefs hoped to make The Vivienne the next Lily Savage, the alter ego of the late Paul O’Grady, due to both stars’ quick wit and Liverpudlian roots.

And than two weeks before their death, the artist had appeared as a panellist on Blankety Blank – the game show on which Lily Savage became famous.

The Viv was also being lined up for the new series of Celebrity Big Brother in March after coming third on last year’s Dancing on Ice.

While last year, they made a critically acclaimed debut in the West End, performing as the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz and the Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

  • RuPaul breaks silence after Tyra Sanchez’ controversial ‘crematorium’ tweet about The Vivienne’s death

RuPaul breaks silence after Tyra Sanchez’ controversial ‘crematorium’ tweet about The Vivienne’s death

RuPaul has broken his silence after Tyra Sanchez posted a controversial tweet about their recently deceased fellow drag star The Vivienne.

The Vivienne, aka James Lee Williams, who won the first series of the reality TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019, was found dead last weekend aged 32.

Sanchez, aka James Ross, feuded with The Vivienne nearly five years ago and has reacted to news of the shock death with a scathing jibe about the late performer.

On Monday, Sanchez reposted a tweet by The Vivienne from July 2020, in which the latter wrote: ‘Bet Tyra was fuming when she realised Netflix Spoiled the win too. Sorry gal. You tried though.’ Quoting the tweet, Sanchez retorted: ‘Yet it doesn’t compare to the fumes of the crematorium.’

Sanchez, another Drag Race alum, was met with a vociferous backlash on social media from fans of The Vivienne who were outraged over the post.

Amid the furor, RuPaul posted a throwback video on Instagram this Wednesday, showing him pretending to slap Sanchez during an acting challenge on Drag Race.

RuPaul (pictured) has broken his silence after Tyra Sanchez posted a controversial tweet about their recently deceased fellow drag star The Vivienne

Many fans in the comments interpreted the post as a response to Sanchez’ tweet, with one writing: ‘MOTHER LMFAOOO,’ and another exclaiming: ‘Do it again!!’

A third fan wrote: ‘YASSSS, mother has spoken,’ as a fourth wrote: ‘She knows what she did. She. KNOWZ!!’ and a fifth approvingly remarked: ‘As you should mama.’

While news of The Vivienne’s death triggered an outpouring of grief from fans, Sanchez, winner of the American version of the program in 2010, took to social media to rekindle a social media feud with The Vivienne from almost five years earlier by posting her crematorium tweet.

Met with opprobrium from fans and fellow drag stars alike, Sanchez was unrepentant, writing on social media the following day: ‘She’s dead. Rotting. Sending me all the hate in the world won’t bring her back. But do as you must.

‘Because of you the tweet has reached over 25k individuals. Thanks for the much needed attention that I oh so desperately needed.’

And despite further criticism, with X users branding the drag queen ‘disgusting’ and ‘twisted’, Sanchez’s position became more entrenched on Tuesday evening, when she posted a picture of a crematorium furnace captioned: ‘Songs I would play if I owned a crematorium.’

The soundtrack to the post was the Alicia Keys hit Girl on Fire.

Social media users once again responded with fury, variously branding Sanchez ‘disgusting’, ‘despicable’ and ‘sad’.

‘You are so f****** disgusting,’ one user wrote beneath the post.

‘How sad that you once had the status of a queen and now you are just a despicable vagabond hungry for a pitiful show, laaaaaame,’ wrote another.

A third added: ‘Girl, you were too scared to reply when The Vivienne was alive so you had to clap back after they had passed? You’re sad, get a life.’

RuPaul led a wave of tributes to The Vivienne after her death was announced by the performer’s publicist, Simon Jones, on Sunday.

‘She will be dearly missed, but her legacy will live on as a beacon of creativity and authenticity – she embodied what it means to be a true champion,’ he wrote on X. ‘Our hearts go out to her family and fans during this difficult time.’

In an update on Monday, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police said officers were called to an address in Chorlton-by-Backford at 12.22pm on Sunday following reports of a sudden death.

‘Police attended, investigated the circumstances of the death of the 32-year-old man and concluded there were no suspicious circumstances,’ said a police spokesman. ‘A file will be prepared for the coroner.’

Williams, whose drag name The Vivienne was rooted in a love of the fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, first garnered attention in 2015 as the British drag ambassador for the US version of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Four years later, Williams won the first UK edition of the show, later appearing in series seven of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars. The drag artist also finished third in the finals of Dancing on Ice in 2023.

Other career milestones came with appearances in a touring production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and a turn as the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz.

‘I love Vivienne Westwood and when I moved to Liverpool everyone used to call me Vivienne as I was head to toe in Westwood,’ The Vivienne explained in 2019.

‘My style is like a Scouse wife who has come into money, she moved to LA and blew it all and then she’s had to move back to Liverpool.’

The Vivienne’s death was announced by Jones on Sunday.

‘It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved James Lee Williams – The Vivienne, has passed this weekend,’ wrote Jones.

‘James was an incredibly loved, warm-hearted and amazing person. Their family are heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother and uncle. They are so proud of the wonderful things James achieved in their life and career.

‘We will not be releasing any further details. We please ask that James’s family are given the time and privacy they now need to process and grieve.’

How RuPaul REALLY reacted to shock death of The Vivienne… and why the tragedy could spell the end of Drag Race, reveals GRANT TUCKER

When the news broke on Sunday evening that drag artiste The Vivienne had died at the age of 32, thousands took to social media to pay tribute.

The performer, whose real name was James Lee Williams, had been one of the breakout stars of BBC series RuPaul’s Drag Race – the reality TV show in which drag queens compete in front of host RuPaul to be named his ‘superstar’.

The Vivienne, who used they/them pronouns, won the first UK series in 2019 with a successful combination of honesty, catty putdowns and an excellent impersonation of Donald Trump. The show became an instant hit, with the series being streamed more than 15million times on iPlayer.

But there was one notable voice missing from the sea of tributes at the weekend: RuPaul himself.

Many were baffled by the silence from the US drag queen, who was born in 1960 as RuPaul Andre Charles. After all, as the show’s creator, he had discovered ‘The Viv’ and picked the performer to be his ‘superstar’.

But, friends now tell me, RuPaul was choosing his words carefully.

Those who know the star reveal that the 64-year-old was ‘absolutely devastated’ by The Viv’s death and has been ‘in bits’ about the sudden loss.

In fact, I can reveal, the tragedy has weighed so heavily on RuPaul that he is now ‘seriously considering’ stepping away from his hosting duties on the show.

A friend of the star told me: ‘This has come like a bolt out of the blue for Ru. The Vivienne was one of his brightest stars and everyone knows what a soft spot he had for them. He has been left absolutely devastated by their passing and is now weighing up his own future.

‘Ru is now seriously considering standing down from hosting the UK franchise, which will always be associated with The Viv.’

Alongside the post was a photograph – not of The Viv in full costume but of a young man in a baseball cap smiling alongside RuPaul.

That young man was Williams, who adopted The Vivienne as a drag name from a love of Vivienne Westwood clothing.

While struggling to make a living in the bars of Gran Canaria, Williams became obsessed with RuPaul and his talent show, which had launched in the US in 2009.

The Viv’s dream of appearing on the show came true. After the UK launch ten years later, viewers were moved by Williams’s honesty about a battle with drug addiction before moving to the Spanish island. In tearful on-screen interviews, the performer revealed that, for four years, drugs had been ‘breakfast, lunch and dinner’.

‘It was party, drugs, but I couldn’t leave the drugs at the party,’ Williams said. ‘It was constant for me.’

For seven nights a week, Williams would perform in bars and clubs and sank into addiction.

‘When people say, “You’ve got to hit rock bottom to get further,” it sounds so stupid but it’s the truth. I had to be kicked out of my house and told that I would be dead by the time I was 30. It was the loneliest part of my life, I was killing myself… and my family don’t even know.

‘I could’ve been dead now if I didn’t do anything about it.’

With the help of Armistead, a rehab centre in Liverpool, Williams recovered and moved to Spain – meeting partner David. The couple were married for four years, divorcing in April 2023.

After winning the show that year – making it an instant hit for the BBC and sparking five more seasons – the performer’s success continued.

TV chiefs hoped to make The Vivienne the next Lily Savage, the alter ego of the late Paul O’Grady, due to both stars’ quick wit and Liverpudlian roots.

Indeed, less than two weeks before The Vivienne’s death, the artist had appeared as a panellist on Blankety Blank – the game show on which Lily Savage became famous.

I can also reveal The Viv was being lined up for the new series of Celebrity Big Brother in March after coming third on last year’s Dancing on Ice.

And it wasn’t just a TV career that was blossoming. Last year The Vivienne made a critically acclaimed debut in the West End, performing as the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz and the Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

But on Sunday, Williams’s distraught father found his son unresponsive at home.

As Simon Jones, The Vivienne’s close friend and manager, wrote: ‘It’s tragic that their career was only just beginning.’

The star’s death, along with uncertainty about the show’s future, could cast a shadow over RuPaul’s annual drag convention, which thousands are expected to attend this weekend.

I am told that RuPaul will be travelling 5,000 miles from his Beverly Hills mansion to London to attend the event at the Excel centre with his co-host and best friend of 35 years, Michelle Visage, at his side.

American singer Ms Visage, who is a key pillar of the UK drag scene, was a close friend of The Vivienne and is expected to take the reins of Drag Race if RuPaul steps down.

In a tribute to The Vivienne this week, 56-year-old Visage wrote: ‘Your laughter, your wit, your talent, your drag. I loved all of it but I loved your friendship most of all. You were a beacon to so many.

‘I’m the lucky one to have known you and to have laughed together with you so many times. I love you my darling.’

The pair are said to be planning a ‘very special tribute’ at the drag convention – the biggest in the UK – to ‘celebrate and not just mourn’ the performer.

There will also be a memorial booth on the ‘pink’ carpet where attendees can pay tribute.

‘They want to fill the room with love,’ said an insider.

But – despite all the planned celebrations – questions are sure to remain for fans of The Vivienne and RuPaul for some time to come.

Drag Race UK star The Vivienne passed away over the weekend aged 32, their publicist announced.

The performer rose to prominence on the first series of the UK version of Ru Paul’s Drag Race in 2019 and went on to make numerous TV appearances in the years that followed, including competing on Dancing On Ice.

But just weeks after coming third on the skating show in 2023, The Vivienne went through a major life change when they separated from her husband David Paul Ludford.

The Vivienne, real name James Lee Williams, and their ex shared a love for drag, as David owns of a company which makes and sells wigs for drag queens, named Drag Helmet.

The pair sparked their romance in 2017 before tying the knot in 2019 in a lavish flower-filled ceremony at G-A-Y’s Heaven nightclub in London – and were the first couple to tie the knot at the the venue after it was granted permission to host weddings that same year.

But after nearly six years together, the pair went their separate ways in 2023 as they said ‘life got in the way’ of their relationship.

‘We wish each the absolute best and will always be part of each other’s lives. We’d ask that you please respect our privacy at this time. Thank you. James and David’.

And the news of The Vivienne’s passing ‘sank David’s heart’ as he issued an emotional tribute to Instagram on Sunday.

Accompanying an array of snaps from their wedding day, he wrote: ‘My heart literally sank when I got the call. Never in a million years did I ever think I’d ever be writing anything like this about James Lee Williams.

‘This man changed my life so much from the day we first met in August 2017 in Gran Canaria!! We literally clicked straight away and we knew we was going to be together for along time!! He made me feel love and shown me what it was really like to love someone.

British comedian Jayde Adams added: ‘I’m completely undone by this news. The Vivienne’s light was unmatched, and her impact will be felt forever. Simon, my love, I’m so deeply sorry for your loss and her family. Holding you in my thoughts and sending all my love. ❤️’

The drag artist’s shock death came just days after they said when they meet strangers they hope they ‘love gay people’ as they spoke in a victim impact statement.

The comments came after magistrates last month ruled a one-punch attack by scaffolder Alan Whitfield on The Vivienne was a hate crime.

The Vivienne, who won the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and came third in last year’s Dancing On Ice, was targeted at the restaurant in Edge Lane on June 16 last year.

They were subjected to a ‘barrage of abuse’ from the defendant who then struck him to the left side of the face with a ‘heavy blow’.

Their face was bruised and hurt for a week but The Vivienne said ‘luckily’ they were a 6ft ex-rugby player who could take a punch, Liverpool Magistrates’ Court was told.

In a victim personal statement read to the court on Wednesday, The Vivienne said: ‘As a proud gay man, I have never hidden who I am or edited myself.

‘It shames me to say at the age of 31, I am now a lot more conscious that I could be attacked at any moment simply for living my life.

‘This has caused me stress, anguish and ongoing trauma.’

Last year they made history as they became the first drag queen to perform on Dancing On Ice, with viewers branding her a ‘superstar’.

The Vivienne and her pro partner Colin Grafton were thrilled as they scored a total of 28.5 out of 40, with Ashley, Oti and Jayne scoring her 7, while Chris gave a 7.5.

Oti praised The Vivienne’s first performance: ‘If you are going to make history, this is how you make history congratulations!’
