Diggs also loves that he got to witness her rise to stardom early on.

‘I love the fact that I was there at the beginning,’ he said. ‘[Menzel] made history in that show and continues to make history with her singing and what not, and to know that I was right there.

‘I love sharing that with my son. Like, ‘Daddy was there, when mommy, when the world first listened to her.’ So that’s cool as well.’

James Van Der Beek joined the striptease special The Real Full Monty to bring cancer awareness to a national audience.

The 47-year-old Dawson’s Creek alum — who was diagnosed with stage three colorectal cancer in August 2023 — joined Anthony Anderson in the Fox production that aired on Monday.

‘The universe is hilarious. I knew immediately in my heart I was doing this,’ the Hollywood veteran told USA Today about his involvement in the show.

He explained: ‘My brain had to catch up to what I’d be doing. There’s been nothing even resembling a male stripping past for me, so this was truly novel. The added layer was this was going to be my first time talking about my diagnosis.’

In early November, James announced his diagnosis while plugging signed football jerseys from his 1999 drama Varsity Blues, which he used to raise funds for cancer treatment.

‘It’s been amazing and overwhelming,’ he told the publication.

‘To find myself in a place where I’m being supported with so many good wishes really took me aback,’ the grateful actor gushed.

Taye Diggs, Tyler Posey, Chris Jones and Bruno Tonioli were also part of the initiative to spread information about men’s health.

Van Der Beek shared with the outlet, ‘Bruno and I go way back. I’ve always been this independent person, so counting on these guys for support was huge.

‘Hopefully others will be inspired to see me stop trying to be Superman constantly and relying on my support system.’

Sharing a teaser for the special via Instagram on Sunday, he wrote in a caption to his 1.6 million followers, ‘One of the blessed moments of clarity I’ve had on this #cancer journey was saying yes to #TheRealFullMonty.’

He added, ‘I was coming out of a medicine journey in the jungles of Colombia (more on that later) and in the Miami airport when I heard @anthonyanderson was putting together a group of men to do this special to raise awareness for early cancer detection.

‘The gimmick to bring attention: Learn and perform the Full Monty strip tease in a theater in front of a live audience.’

While promoting the Full Monty production, Van Der Beek recalled the time he was caught with an X-rated Dawson’s Creek video at an airport.

‘I received the “Dawson’s Crack” porno as a wrap gift for The Rules of Attraction,’ he shared with USA Today. ‘It was on VHS. That’s how long ago this was.’

On his way to North Carolina to work on the beloved television series, which co-starred Katie Holmes, he was stopped by TSA.

‘I wanted to show everybody that we’d made it. So, I put it in my suitcase and went through security,’ he remembered.

‘It was right after 9/11, and security opened up every suitcase, including mine. And it was right on top. Not only was it, you know, a porno, but a porno based on a show I was in,’ Van Der Beek said.

He shared, ‘The TSA guard looked at me, got embarrassed, and just closed the suitcase. And I was on my merry way.’

Nicole also posed for a snap with her Sunset Blvd co-star Tom Francis, 25, who donned an all black ensemble.

The actress received five standing ovations for her incredible performance throughout the opening night of the musical.

Ahead of the show, Nicole took to Instagram to share a snap of herself with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jamie Lloyd as they rehearsed ahead of opening night.

She penned: ‘Tonight I make my Broadway Debut. I can hardly believe it. Little Nicole has waited for this her whole life. And I get to do it with this beautiful cast @sunsetblvdmusical and these two heroes of mine @andrewlloydwebber @jamielloyd’.

Nicole initially played the role of Norma when it opened in London last year, whilst West End legend Rachel Tucker served as her alternate.

She and co-star Tom both won an Olivier for their efforts, and Tom has joined the Don’t Cha singer on Broadway.

Nicole and Tom are also joined in the show by fellow London co-stars Grace Hodgett-Young and David Thaxton as they all made their Broadway debuts.

Nicole recently admitted that despite her success in theatre, she had initially felt ‘discarded’ by the industry following her pop career.

She told People: ‘I’m [46] years old. I’ve never been more strong — physically, mentally, emotionally. I’m in my prime. There is no better time for me to create work that is meaningful in this world.

‘That’s the tragedy: is that you’re in the best place in your life. You’re so full, you have so much to give, and people have discarded you, and dismissed you and said ‘Your time’s up…”

Nicole then insisted that it has been her ‘lifelong dream’ to make it to The Great White Way, which comes after appearances in shows like Cats and Rent since her pop heyday.

Nicole’s success in the London run of Sunset Boulevard did not go totally without a hitch as she had a stumble on her way up to the stage during the awards ceremony.

After kissing her fiancé Thom Evans, Nicole carefully made her way to the Royal Albert Hall stage in her daring gown.

Host Hannah Waddingham helped her up the steps but as she reached the top, the actress stumbled, with actor David Oyelowo reaching out to help her.

James Van Der Beek posed up a storm at the FOX Winter Press Day red carpet in Los Angeles on Monday

On November 3, he told the outlet he was ‘privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it with the support’ of his incredible family.

‘I have colorectal cancer,’ he said. ‘There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.’

Colorectal cancer starts in the colon or the rectum, according to the American Cancer Society.

Following his diagnosis, Van Der Beek, who shares six children with his wife, Kimberly, has kept working.

Most recently, he appeared on an episode of Walker and is next set to star in Sidelined: The QB and Me, which comes out later this month.

In June, he and his family enjoyed a trip to visit the ancient Egyptian pyramids and temples.

At the time, he revealed on Instagram that he had taken a trip out to see the remains of ancient Egyptian culture, including the iconic pyramids at Giza, just outside Cairo, and the Dendera Temple complex, which is several hours away via car.

The actor, who moved away from Los Angeles four years earlier to start a new life with his family in Texas, shared photos of his family sampling the stunning sights, and his caption illustrated how awed he was by the monumental structures.

He gushed that how ‘magical’ the trip was in his post, and he admitted that was ‘caught off-guard at just how deeply i felt the spiritual resonance of these temples.’

‘#Egypt… With all my vocabulary, “Wow,” is what fell out of my mouth most of the time,’ he began his post. ‘We were gifted a magical experience, one I’m still processing – and might be for the rest of my life.’

He praised his children — Olivia, 13; Joshua, 12; Annabel Leah, 10; Emilia, eight; Gwendolyn, six; and Jeremiah, two — for being ‘rock stars’ on the major intercontinental voyage, and he wrote that his ‘friends became brothers’ on the trip.

‘Despite all the travel and time zone crossing and early-morning alarms, I feel re-charged,’ he gushed.

James added that he was shocked at the ‘spiritual’ experience he had around the structures, many of which originally had religious significance.

‘I’d anticipated a metaphysical element to the trip, but I was caught off-gaurd [sic] at just how deeply I felt the spiritual resonance of all these temples,’ he admitted. ‘I mean, they are “temples”, after all (duh), but whatever assumptions I had about these otherworldly structures being “antiquities” faded as soon as I stepped into them.

Taye Diggs ‘blindsided’ by Diddy’s sex trafficking arrest

Taye Diggs has revealed he felt ‘blindsided’ by Diddy’s arrest on sex trafficking charges after previously considering the disgraced rapper a ‘hero.’

The musician, 54, real name Sean Love Combs, is currently awaiting trial at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center in New York City on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.

It is alleged that the rapper would coerce and manipulate victims into taking part in days-long sexual performances, which he dubbed ‘freak offs’.

Diddy’s associates would allegedly ply victims with drugs to keep them compliant and would make threats against anyone refusing to engage, in claims similar to those made in a civil lawsuit brought by Diddy’s ex-girlfriend Cassie last year.

Actor Diggs, 53, said Thursday’s episode of Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson’s Sibling Revelry podcast: ‘I felt so naive when I heard all that stuff because I was… I don’t know where I was, but all of it blindsided me.

The Chicago star added: ‘On one side, I’m like, this is great for people to know that this happens. We can think life is to be lived a certain way, we can think a person is a certain way and they can be the exact opposite and get used to that, you know?’

It was recently revealed that Combs has ‘been able to speak briefly to family members and his children via phone’ as per People.

Diddy’s phone call home came amid news his lawyers are not asking for him to be moved from the ‘Hell on Earth’ Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset, Brooklyn.

‘He is very concerned about his kids and their well-being,’ the source stated.

‘He has three minor children, two of whom now have no living parent available with him incarcerated. Four of his seven children have neither parent available with him incarcerated.’

Another source said that the Combs kids are ‘in a state of crisis and shock’ following Diddy’s arrest.

‘It’s heartbreaking to see the children in the state they’re in. This is their father. But to them, he’s not Diddy — he’s Dad. He has always been a loving, devoted father.’

He shares Christian, Jessie and D’Lila with the late model and actress Kim Porter, who died in 2018 at age 47.

Quincy was Porter’s son with partner Al B. Sure!, and Combs went on to adopt him.

He shares Justin with stylist Misa Hylton, and Chance with businesswoman Sarah Chapman.

In December 2022 he welcomed the arrival of his youngest child, daughter, Love, with model Dana Tran.

On Tuesday Justin, Christian, and Quincy arrived together at a New York City courtroom to support their father.

He added of Diddy: 'I really put him on a pedestal and it was disappointing to see some of what happened. I couldn’t believe it. And I didn’t like that feeling'; seen in 2022

Combs’s three daughters and 23-month-old baby girl were nowhere in view.

Another source told People that Diddy is not getting any special accommodations at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center.

‘He is being treated like any other detainee awaiting trial. As with all public figures in his position, he was placed on suicide watch upon admittance to the facility as a precaution.’

Diddy was arrested and charged last week for sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.

The charge, which details allegations dating back to 2008, accuses him of abusing, threatening and coercing women for years ‘to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct.’

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following his arrest, he was denied bail by a judge after he used both his and his mother’s homes in Miami – worth $50 million – as collateral.

On Wednesday, he lost an appeal to overturn the decision and will remain in custody while pending trial.

He is currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center.

Reporter Meghann Cuniff also shared on Twitter on Monday that Diddy’s lawyers are not currently asking the judge to change where he’s being held.

The Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset, Brooklyn, also known as MDC, has a reputation for extreme violence, multiple deaths, squalid conditions, safety issues, rampant staffing shortages, smuggling of drugs and contraband, some carried out by its prison staff, and food that contains maggots – that have since been disproved.

The jail has been deemed so dangerous that some judges have refused to send other violent offenders there. Some of the infamous prisoners detained there include Ghislaine Maxwell, Sam Bankman-Fried and R. Kelly.

Combs, who pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to sex trafficking charges, is being held in solitary confinement – away from the comforts of his $48 million mansion – and on suicide watch.

This summer there were two fatal stabbings and another stabbing in April where an inmate was knifed 44 times by MS-13 gang members at MDC, as per NBC reported.

In the indictment against Diddy that was unsealed this week, it was claimed that federal raids on his Miami and Los Angeles mansions led to the discovery of over 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant.

It is alleged that the rapper would coerce and manipulate victims into taking part in days-long sexual performances, which he dubbed ‘freak offs.’

Diddy’s associates would allegedly ply victims with drugs to keep them compliant and would make threats against anyone refusing to engage, in claims similar to those made in a civil lawsuit brought by Diddy’s ex-girlfriend Cassie last year.

These allegations were central to prosecutors bringing sex trafficking charges against the producer, with observers noting that authorities are increasingly expanding the law to suit their cases against powerful defendants.

A step up in federal sex trafficking charges was passed by Congress in 2000 as an intentional step to take down prostitution rings and pimps, but the evolving nature of the charge has seen it more recently used to snare individuals like Keith Raniere.

Notably, Diddy has hired the same attorney, Marc Agnifilo, who has previously challenged the government’s expanding use of federal sex trafficking charges in Raniere’s 2019 trial that led to a 120-year sentence.

In the video, Christian, who enjoys a job in construction, said when she was first diagnosed it was ‘shocking and a bit scary,’ but having that information made her feel ‘calmer,’ explaining, ‘I actually had hope because I could put a name on everything that was happening.’

Diggs told the outlet that as Christian’s brother, he and his family ‘were all very surprised and scared and curious.’

‘I didn’t know anything about it,’ he admitted. Like most people, the only reference I had was what was portrayed on television and a whole bunch of stereotypes.’

Schizophrenia is a condition that impacts 2.4 million adults in the United States and an estimated 24 million globally.  According to the Cleveland Clinic, ‘Schizophrenia involves a disconnection from reality, including hallucinations and delusions.’

‘My sister’s very, very smart, and she loves to use her brain. And when she was diagnosed, she told me it was like the part of her brain that she enjoyed the most wasn’t her own anymore,’ The Chicago star revealed. ‘And that’s what was very frustrating for her.’

‘I couldn’t rely on my intellect, I couldn’t rely on my mind, or my thought processes at all any more’ Christian explained in the video.

‘That was a really difficult thing to grasp and accept. I never thought I would be happy again,’ she said, ‘but every day I wake up and I can’t believe I’m here. It’s amazing. I’m someone who’s living my possible.’

Christian got to where she is now after finding the right medical care.

‘Once she started getting on the right medication and had a certain amount of therapy, then it started to click for her. It was night and day,’ Diggs said.

As a family he said, ‘We were just there to say, “Keep going. Don’t lose hope. Everything’s going to be fine.” And then she came out of the clouds and we were all very thankful and grateful. And we felt lucky.’

‘Christian helped me uncover the fact that there’s hope. It’s not like it’s the end of the world,’ he asserted. ‘I could see her being able to make decisions and live out her ambitions and do all this stuff that I thought was not going to be within her grasp.’

For others who may be dealing with the diagnosis of a friend or loved one, the The Best Man franchise star said, ‘It’s really easy to just make a judgment.’

‘It’s so easy to just kind of put people in a certain box,’ he contended, adding, ‘I feel silly because I thought it was so black and white. But now I know better. I’m almost embarrassed to admit what I thought of her when we first heard this news, but she’s such an inspiration’ Diggs said.

‘People just need support. They need a team around them that knows what they’re doing, and they can literally achieve whatever they want. And I didn’t realize this at the time.’

For Christian, knowing she had that a team behind her meant all the difference.

‘What I realized over time was that family primarily played an integral role in me being able to accomplish this, having them there with me every step of the way, through every phase, no matter what, they were my strongest support.’
