Jeremy Kyle admits he had a ‘complete breakdown’ and couldn’t even leave his bed during ‘five years of hell’ amid the fallout from talk show guest’s death – as he reveals he’s ready for a return to TV

Jeremy Kyle has admitted that he had a ‘complete breakdown’ after enduring ‘five years of hell’ amid the fallout from the death of a guest who appeared on his eponymous talk show.

Ex-RNLI volunteer Steve Dymond appeared on The Jeremy Kyle Show on May 2, 2019, to try to prove to his on-off partner Jane Callaghan, then 48, that he didn’t cheat on her.

The 63-year-old, from Portsmouth, Hampshire, failed a lie detector test and was found dead seven days later in the £100-a-week room he rented, having overdosed on morphine.

Jeremy’s ITV show was subsequently axed, though in September an inquest ruled that the show was ‘not to blame’ in the death of Mr Dymond as there was ‘no causal link’.

And in a new interview, Jeremy, 59, revealed the dramatic impact the aftermath of the guest’s death had on his life, admitting that he even struggled to get out of bed at times and that it was his wife Vicky Burton who had ‘saved’ him.

Detailing the dark period in his life, Jeremy explained to OK! Magazine: ‘We must never forget that a man died, but it’s been proven that it was nothing whatsoever to do with me. It’s been five years of hell. But with the strength of this woman, I’m on the other side.

He continued: ‘For two years it was horrific, and I had a complete breakdown. It was Vicky who dragged me out of bed. She saved me.’

The TV personality, who has since gone on to appear on TalkTV, reflected on the time his famous show was axed after Mr Dymond took his own life, admitting he was on the loo when he got a call from to say ‘the show’s gone’.

At the same time, his wife Vicky revealed that she was pregnant with their first child, with Jeremy spiralling into ‘such a state’ in the coming days amid the huge changes in his life.

Jeremy went on to say: ‘In terms of my career, overnight I went from being the king of the castle to not even being allowed in the castle grounds for a walk. I completely and utterly get it when people say, “Oh but Jeremy Kyle’s a gobs***e,” I get it. It was part of the show. But for the people who knew me, it was a terrible time.’

Amid the backlash, the couple had to draft in security as they’d received threats and had angry people banging on their door, while Jeremy had lost over a stone due to stress and was put on antidepressants.

Vicky, who joined him for the interview, went on to say how difficult it was watching her husband suffer, adding that it was a ‘horrible time’ and that she knew it ‘wasn’t ‘his fault’.

She went on to say that at the TV star’s lowest ebb, she was forced to ‘kick him out of bed’ and force him to interact with their family, adding that it was Jeremy’s loved ones that ‘kept him going’.

Jeremy’s second wife, whom he married in 2021, also insisted that Jeremy isn’t the ‘scary person’ he’s portrayed on screen to be, sharing that the star is ‘gentle and kind’ and simply wishes for the best for those around him.

After getting himself back on track, Jeremy is said to be planning a big return to screens, starting with Kate Garraway’s Life Stories in the New Year, as well as other TV opportunities.

The star, who turns 60 in 2025, told how he feels that ‘life is starting again’, adding that he wants to now ‘look ahead’ as he doesn’t want the scandal to be ‘my legacy’.

Back in September, Jeremy broke his silence, saying his ‘conscience is clear’ after a coroner ruled there was ‘no causal link’ between the appearance of a guest on his show and his death.

Jeremy detailed the mental and physical toll that the past five years has taken on, as well as defending critics against the ITV1 daytime show.

‘Let’s not forget first and foremost somebody took their life because they were in a position where they saw no way out,’ he told The Sun.

‘I haven’t spoken for five and a half years out of respect because there was a legal process that dragged on and on for many reasons.

‘It should never have been about me; it’s about Steve, and his family. That was my first thought when I found out .

‘And then my next thought was about the hundred people that worked for the show who lost their jobs overnight – some of them even had their mortgages cancelled. I remember at the time just being in this bubble of not even understanding what had happened, but I get it. I get the criticism.’

He went on to say: ‘I think everybody would probably question [themselves] when something like that happens. ‘You look at yourself in the mirror, of course you do. You would be inhuman not to, wouldn’t you?

‘Listen, I know that I did that show to the best of my ability. I’m sure I didn’t get it right the whole time.

‘But my conscience is clear. The coroner was right in that there was nothing I did or could have done to stop this tragedy. I was presenting a show. Steve had been cleared to appear by both ITV’s aftercare team and his own GP.’

‘Recently we were shown messages which Steve sent to Jane and his family after appearing on the show and not a single one criticises or complains about me, None of this should have been about me.’

‘I felt it wrong that everybody piled in: It was a dreadful time for everyone. But I became the focus of journalists, members of the public and social media; Their judgement seemingly on me and the show. There was much more to the story and I think that needed to come out eventually.’

It read: ‘His Majesty’s Coroner has today clearly and unequivocally found that Jeremy Kyle did not in any way cause or contribute to the tragic suicide of Steve Dymond. He is now exonerated of that ill-informed accusation and his name has finally been cleared.

‘Out of respect for the family of Mr Dymond and the judicial process, Jeremy has always maintained that it would be inappropriate to discuss details whilst the legal inquest was ongoing and he has remained steadfastly silent in the face of lies, false accusations and unfair criticism over the last 5 1/2 years.

‘This has taken a huge toll on him and his family and he would like to thank everyone who has truly supported him through these tough times.’

  • Phillip Schofield Takes Dog for Walk amid Comeback Rumours

Phillip Schofield Takes Dog for Walk amid Comeback Rumours

Phillip Schofield was spotted taking his pet dog Alfie for a walk near his west London home on Friday.

The former This Morning presenter, 62, was joined by a female companion on the afternoon outing.

Phillip dressed casually in a grey zip-up jumper which he paired with blue jeans and pair of brown shoes.

Wrapping up for the outing in a black hacket, the TV host completed his look with a pair of sunglasses.

Phillip had gone into hiding for nearly a year following his confession that he had an affair with a much younger colleague.

There has been increased speculation about what Phillip will do next after he left This Morning in May 2023.

In the last month, almost a year after he quit the daytime show, he has started to slowly edge his way back into the public eye with a flurry of appearances.

There has been speculation he could make an appearance on the next series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! after show host Declan Donnelly recently showd his support for him.

Marmite politicians Matt Hancock and Nigel Farage have both appeared on the programme in recent years, in what were arguably successful stints, with both making the final and finishing third on the show.

With his good pal Dec not far away, I’m A Celebrity could be the place Phillip will end up next, and he is Evens with the bookies to head to the jungle later this year.

Last year, Phillip was said to have spoken to a senior boss at TalkTV about a possible role at the channel, according to the Daily Mirror.

While it’s thought he previously wasn’t ready for a small screen comeback, he is now just 3/1 with the bookies to front his own TalkTV show, according to Gambling.com.

The publication also claimed Phillip had held an ‘informal’ conversation with book publishers Hodder & Stoughton, and while nothing appears to have materialised on that front, it seems plausible that he would want to get his own side of his story across in print.

Phillip is just 4/1 to publish a memoir next, and 5/1 to roll back the years and appear in a stage show.

After Dec showed his support for Phillip, it appears Alison Hammond has now rebuilt her trust and friendship back up with the estranged TV star.

On Sunday night, Alison liked Phillip’s latest Instagram post, which was a picture of his pet pooch.

Back in March 2024, Alison broke her silence regarding Phillip’s affair scandal but was reluctant to say much.

While presenting This Morning, she said: ‘As for said ‘issues’… Listen. I don’t want to get into salacious gossip.

‘All I need to say is I personally wish Phillip Schofield all the best. I loved Phillip Schofield. Full stop. But that’s the last thing I would want to speak about.’

It comes after Phillip was snapped in London in early May looking relaxed as he laughed and joked with close pal Dec and his wife Ali Astall.

He had reportedly just enjoyed a four-hour dinner with ITV’s golden boy at a restaurant close to their homes when they were spotted in hysterics.

Phillip followed that up days later by ending his social media blackout of nearly a year by reigniting his Instagram with a sweet photo of Alfie watching Formula One.

Daughters Ruby, 27, and Molly, 30, as well as This Morning co-host Josie Gibson raced to like the post within minutes in a clear sign of support.

And his beloved daughter Molly is now his publicist after she quit the talent agency that once represented her father.

PR guru Mark Borkowski says his tepid return to the public eye has come after a year away to disappear and get himself together.

Calling him a rare talent, Mr Borkowski said: ‘He’s testing the waters. But audiences are very forgiving.’

Phillip told the BBC in an emotional interview last June the affair had finished his career and revealed that the fallout had left him feeling suicidal.

He told how his two daughters – Molly and Ruby – had saved his life and had ‘guarded me and won’t let me out of their sight’.

He admitted during the sit-down interview with Amol Rajan denied he had groomed the younger colleague, before telling critics: ‘Do you want me to die? Because that’s where I am.’

Phillip quit This Morning in a cloud of controversy having first lied to bosses about the ‘unwise, but not illegal’ relationship with the male runner 34 years his junior.

An external review led by barrister Jane Mulcahy KC concluded ITV had made ‘considerable efforts’ to find out the truth when rumours began to swirl about the relationship in 2019.

But the repeated denials meant the broadcaster was unable to uncover the truth until Schofield’s admission.

The fallout from the scandal led to the breakdown of his friendship with Holly Willoughby.

After Phillip left the show in May, his co-host Holly Willoughby later quit in October due to an alleged kidnap plot.

The pair were officially replaced by Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley in March as the two took on the show full time after a series of guest presenters had been rotating the daytime slot.

Back in March friends of the star have said that he is ‘quite certain’ he will never work again.

One said: ‘Phillip has been very, very down recently. He doesn’t know how he is going to work again. It’s devastating for him to realise but he also knows that there is not a lot he can do about it. He doesn’t know who will take him. He knows there is no way back to ITV or the BBC.’

Sources close to the star say that his friends are trying to encourage him to think he can have a ‘fulfilling life’ away from showbusiness.

One said: ‘Just because he may not be on telly again doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy his life. Phil isn’t so sure though.’

The star has though been tipped for a job on national radio – his ‘first love’ – with Britain’s largest commercial stations said to be jostling to bring him in to woo new listeners from rivals, including BBC Radio 2.

Speaking about the new gig, she said: ‘After a long and passionate courtship, I’ve finally succumbed to the allure of LBC.

‘I can’t wait to join the Global family and get cracking. Brace yourself for May 4 – May the fourth be with you!’

Tom Cheal, LBC’s Senior Managing Editor, said: ‘Vanessa is a leading light in broadcasting who is outspoken, incisive and understands what matters to LBC listeners. We’re delighted to have her on board.’

TalkTV will be taken off air and move online in the summer, with the announcement coming just weeks after Piers Morgan left his daily show on the channel.

Vanessa said: ‘I’ve had the most fabulous two years at TalkTV.

‘It’s been a joy and a revelation to work on a fledgling station. Among many experiences, it was my honour to break the news of the passing of Her Majesty, the Queen to viewers and broadcast live throughout that momentous time.

The This Morning favourite left her Radio 2 show, where she earned £400,000 a year in 2022 to move to Talk Radio and Talk TV after more than 20 ‘years of 3.30am starts’.

TalkTV, which launched in 2022, has struggled to attract viewers on its linear platform.

In February, Piers announced he was leaving the channel to focus on the Uncensored YouTube channel, saying that daily, fixed TV schedules have been ‘an increasingly unnecessary straitjacket’.

A statement from Scott Taunton, TalkTV’s president of broadcasting, said in a briefing to staff: ‘Two years ago, we would not have been brave enough to launch a channel without a linear presence.

‘But audiences of all ages have moved fast and smartphones are now the primary device where news is consumed. We need to adapt to this as a priority.’

He added: ‘We are therefore intending that Talk comes off linear television from early summer and our focus will be on streaming.’

‘Talk will continue broadcasting as a live streaming news and opinion channel, distributing through streaming platforms to include YouTube, Amazon Fire, Samsung, LG and others.

‘A large proportion of our live viewing is already through streaming on televisions and we intend to continue to grow this.

Scott said clips will continue to be shared through social media, and that while there is ‘no doubt over Talk’s future as an audio and video channel, it just won’t be distributed on linear’.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, the lothario spoke about his night out with the TV legend after they dined at Sheesh in London’s Mayfair in March – sparking dating rumours in the wake of her split from partner Ben Ofoedu.

Stefan revealed that ‘amazing’ Vanessa was a huge fan of his pheromones when she smelt his Pierre 47 aftershave, which markets at Selfridges, while they shared a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

He said: ‘She’s great. A gentleman never tells but she is the most amazing woman and she loves my new fragrance Pierre 47 with the pheromones. We had a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon blanc with dinner.

Stefan’s announcement comes after Vanessa was teased by her This Morning co-stars as she hinted at a romantic weekend away over Easter.

Vanessa and Stefan-Pierre sat at an intimate table and reportedly chatted for hours before saying goodbye with a hug.

The model is an unexpected choice for the TV host, who just last year swore off toy boys after discovering ex Ben, 51, had been unfaithful.

Yet if her relationship with Stefan-Pierre turns into romance, she’ll have moved on with a man nearly half her age.

Lizzie is now on good terms with her ex husband James Cundy.

The radio presenter was married to the Chelsea and Spurs defender for 16 years and they have two sons together.

She recently revealed that her house was recently targeted by suspected burglars while she was inside the property, leaving her completely ‘terrified’.

The socialite took to Instagram in January to reveal the ‘frightening’ ordeal as she claimed the scary incident happened while she was in the bath.

She shared more details with MailOnline as she told how she had heard a ‘huge bang’ from downstairs while her whole house was in complete darkness other than her bathroom light.

Lizzie said she ‘couldn’t move with fear’ as she didn’t know what was happening, claiming it was a local farmer who called the police after allegedly seeing two men outside her home.

She said the farmer ‘spooked’ the men and they drove straight through her fence while trying to flee, but overturned the car while driving at high speed and ran away.

Lizzie shared her relief that the suspected burglars were not successful in entering her home and claimed she was targeted because the men believed the property was empty and that she was still on holiday in Barbados.

Trisha Goddard, 66, unveils her husband’s identity and opens up about their wedding following her cancer recurrence and hip surgery.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Each year in the UK there are more than 55,000 new cases, and the disease claims the lives of 11,500 women. In the US, it strikes 266,000 each year and kills 40,000. But what causes it and how can it be treated?

    What is breast cancer?

It comes from a cancerous cell which develops in the lining of a duct or lobule in one of the breasts.

When the breast cancer has spread into surrounding tissue it is called ‘invasive’. Some people are diagnosed with ‘carcinoma in situ’, where no cancer cells have grown beyond the duct or lobule.

Most cases develop in those over the age of 50 but younger women are sometimes affected. Breast cancer can develop in men, though this is rare.

Staging indicates how big the cancer is and whether it has spread. Stage 1 is the earliest stage and stage 4 means the cancer has spread to another part of the body.

The cancerous cells are graded from low, which means a slow growth, to high, which is fast-growing. High-grade cancers are more likely to come back after they have first been treated.

    What causes breast cancer?

A cancerous tumour starts from one abnormal cell. The exact reason why a cell becomes cancerous is unclear. It is thought that something damages or alters certain genes in the cell. This makes the cell abnormal and multiply ‘out of control’.

Although breast cancer can develop for no apparent reason, there are some risk factors that can increase the chance, such as genetics.

What are the symptoms of breast cancer?

The usual first symptom is a painless lump in the breast, although most are not cancerous and are fluid filled cysts, which are benign.

The first place that breast cancer usually spreads to is the lymph nodes in the armpit. If this occurs you will develop a swelling or lump in an armpit.

    How is breast cancer diagnosed?

    • Initial assessment: A doctor examines the breasts and armpits. They may do tests such as a mammography, a special x-ray of the breast tissue which can indicate the possibility of tumours.
    • Biopsy: A biopsy is when a small sample of tissue is removed from a part of the body. The sample is then examined under a microscope to look for abnormal cells. The sample can confirm or rule out cancer.

If you are confirmed to have breast cancer, further tests may be needed to assess if it has spread. For example, blood tests, an ultrasound scan of the liver or a chest X-ray.

    How is breast cancer treated?

Treatment options which may be considered include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment. Often a combination of two or more of these treatments are used.

    • Surgery: Breast-conserving surgery or the removal of the affected breast depending on the size of the tumour.
    • Radiotherapy: A treatment which uses high energy beams of radiation focused on cancerous tissue. This kills cancer cells, or stops them from multiplying. It is mainly used in addition to surgery.
    • Chemotherapy: A treatment of cancer by using anti-cancer drugs which kill cancer cells, or stop them from multiplying.
    • Hormone treatments: Some types of breast cancer are affected by the ‘female’ hormone oestrogen, which can stimulate the cancer cells to divide and multiply. Treatments which reduce the level of these hormones, or prevent them from working, are commonly used in people with breast cancer.

    How successful is treatment?

The outlook is best in those who are diagnosed when the cancer is still small, and has not spread. Surgical removal of a tumour in an early stage may then give a good chance of cure.

The routine mammography offered to women between the ages of 50 and 70 means more breast cancers are being diagnosed and treated at an early stage.

Dame Esther Rantzen shares her ideal last meal as she contemplates assisted suicide with stage-four lung cancer

Dame Esther Rantzen has revealed her dream final supper after admitting she is considering assisted suicide.

The Childline founder, 83, was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer last year, and has since revealed she has joined the assisted-dying clinic Dignitas in Switzerland.

She has now told how she would love to enjoy some caviar and drink champagne as a final meal.

Dame Esther added that despite it making her feel sick in the past as she is allergic to champagne, she would love to consume both as there would be no worry over the consequences.

She told LBC Radio on Monday: ‘I’d like to fly off to Zurich with my nearest and dearest. Have a fantastic dinner the night before.

‘I’d love caviar, if possible, and the fact that it doesn’t always agree with me doesn’t matter, does it?

‘I could even have champagne, which I’m deeply allergic to. Then the next day, go to this rather unappealing place where they do it.’

Sharing more details of her final plans, she continued: ‘Listen to a favourite piece of music, say goodbye to everybody. Tell them to cheer up.

‘I’m meeting my late husband, my departed dog and my mother at the pearly gates. Hold up my hand for an injection or open my mouth for a rather disgusting medication.’

It comes after last week Dame Esther’s daughter Rebecca broke down in tears during an emotional appearance on Loose Women while discussing her mother’s cancer diagnosis.

Rebecca broke down as she watched an emotional video montage of Esther, admitting her diagnosis is the news ‘no one wants to hear.’

She added that she was ‘a little surprised’ by Esther’s decision to join Dignitas, but she has ‘chosen how she wants to live.’

Rebecca said: ‘It’s the news that no one ever wants to hear. Mum doesn’t usually break her promises and she promised to live forever so she’s quite embarrassed that she’s had to go back on that.’

It comes after last week Dame Esther ‘s daughter Rebecca broke down in tears during an emotional appearance on Loose Women while discussing her mother’s cancer diagnosis

‘But how does anyone ever feel when a loved one is diagnosed with a terminal illness? It’s confusing, it’s bamboozling.

‘They use all these words, you just want them to tell you what’s going to happen and when, really directly and really succinctly and nobody does, because they pad around it carefully and you just want them to say, ”This is what you have and this is how long it’ll take”.’

‘You just want someone to say this is what you have and this is how long it will take but they can’t.’

Discussing Esther’s decision to join Dignitas, Rebecca told the panel: ‘Probably the same time as you! It was a little surprising.

‘She likes surprising us and keeping us on our toes. I mean I’ve always known about how she feels about death and dying, she’s done a lot of work around it.

‘She’s done documentaries, she’s done newspaper articles and books so we’ve always known that the last thing she wants is for our memories of her to be replaced with a traumatic death.

‘A traumatic death involves a patient in pain, so if she’s in pain, why would she want to live any longer? If she’s not getting anything from life and obviously you can live with a certain amount of pain and some people are brilliantly stoical.’

‘But she’s always said, ”I love my life the way I am”. ”I love who I am”… she doesn’t say that, she’s very modest but she is who she is. She is this super-dooper brain.

‘I know I’m biased but she’s so bright and so brilliant that the last thing she’d want is to become something else in her last moments.’

Sharing an update on how Dame Esther is doing, Rebecca explained: ‘Fortunately, she is doing ok. We don’t know what is going to happen next, we only know what happened in the last scan and the last scan is always a bit out of date and then you go and meet the oncologist and he asks mum, ”How are you doing?” and she says, ”I don’t know, that’s why I’m here”.’

Describing her mum, Rebecca said: ‘My brother said, living with mum is like living next to a volcano.

‘You just never know when it’s going to explode so you know, just put on your hat for lava.’

Dame Esther also recorded a exclusive for Loose Women, which was played during Rebecca’s interview, in which she said: ‘I don’t know if I’ll live long enough to see this debated in parliament but if you do agree with me, please, please make your views known to your MP and for those that disagree – maybe on religious principles or maybe because they’re professionally absorbed in palliative care and believe that this goes against what they practice in medicine – can I just say, all we ask for is the choice.

‘That’s all we’re asking for, we don’t want to impose our views on you but we do want the choice ourselves.’

Agreeing that her mother ‘wants to spark a debate’ on the topic, Rebecca said: ‘Yes, the fact that she isn’t allowed to choose how she dies, doesn’t make any sense to any of us.

‘She’s chosen how she wants to live and she’s been a bit of a force of nature in that sense so it makes sense in a way that this is the debate that’s coming to the forefront of our family.

‘She’s watching now, which is making me really nervous because I feel like I’m putting words in her mouth and you should never do that with Mum!’

Is Assisted Suicide illegal in Britain?

Under the Suicide Act 1961, anyone helping or encouraging someone to take their own life in England or Wales can be prosecuted and jailed for up to 14 years if found guilty of an offence.

Section two of the act states that a person commits an offence if they carry out an act capable of encouraging or assisting the suicide or attempted suicide of another person, and the act was intended to encourage or assist suicide or an attempt at suicide.

In 2015 MPs including former prime minister David Cameron rejected a Bill to legalize assisted dying.

Opposition to changing the law has come from faith groups, campaigners who say disabled people may feel pressured to end their lives and campaigners who fear assisted dying would become a business.

Discussing the laws around assisted dying in the United Kingdom, Rebecca commented: ‘This is the awful thing about outsourcing death to Switzerland, you have to go before you’re ready because you have to be signed off by two doctors so you’re not quite at the stage that you would choose and you have to go alone, because anyone that goes with you, comes back to prosecution.

‘The worst time in your life, I’m experiencing the worst thing ever, which is the loss of my mum. I’m very lucky to have her, but then I’d have to go through a court case and prove that I didn’t murder her.’

Kaye also asked Rebecca if she can ‘understand the objections and concerns of those that do not agree’ to which Rebecca replied: ‘I absolutely understand that there are a few evil people who would take advantage of it, to do whatever it was they wanted to, to get hold of someone else’s assets and to end somebody’s life before they have chosen to.

‘It’s not reinventing the wheel, it works and exists in other countries. It works in Canada, so we could take those rulings and adapt them for this country.’

Rebecca added: ‘Yes, absolutely protect the vulnerable but someone like mum, who has made her opinions very clear – what’s to debate?’

In a final message from mother to daughter, Dame Esther Rantzen was heard telling Rebecca: ‘I am incredibly proud of Rebecca for all kinds of reasons, she is a terrific mother, a terrific daughter, she’s a terrific journalist and I am absolutely thrilled that she is taking on the presidential role at Childline.

‘I felt very [inaudible] because I am not able to do what I used to do, which is go in and be a volunteer counsellor on the phone and visit the various Childline bases and meet our staff and volunteers and she’s going to do all of that and it’s such an important role. I know she’ll do it brilliantly and I know she’ll love doing it. Becca, I am extremely proud of you.’

Rebecca responded to the message saying: ‘I don’t feel I could do anything at all in relation to how brilliant she’s been but I just want to do my best.’

In December, Esther revealed she has joined assisted-dying clinic Dignitas in Switzerland and will consider going there to end her life should her next scan show she is getting worse.

Dame Esther has also reignited the debate over assisted-dying after calling for national debate on the subject, saying people deserve ‘the choice’ over how they pass away.

She previously revealed she had not expected to spend this Christmas with her family after being diagnosed with cancer, but a ‘miracle’ drug had given her additional time with her loved ones.

Writing in her column for The Mirror, her daughter Rebecca, 43, explained: ‘It’s not often that you know beforehand it will be the last time you will dish out turkey and pull crackers at the table with your mother, but that’s what this year has been for us.

‘She thought she would be dead in spring, but a miraculous drug has meant that we have another Christmas with her, a wonder we couldn’t have imagined possible when she was diagnosed in January. I was determined to make the most of it.’

Rebecca continued: ‘I couldn’t relax. I was too aware every moment was a precious treasure. I felt I needed to hold on to each minute so tightly I was probably exhausting to be around.’

She explained how despite initially stressing about the ‘trickling away time’ she managed to finally ‘relax’ and find contentment in making memories.

She revealed how Dame Esther made wonderful memories with her grandchildren – teaching two how to play solitaire and being taught in return how to do a sudoku puzzle – before singing karaoke late into the day.

Rebecca added that the was ‘filled with so much love that our memories will last’ and said she was holding out hope for ‘another Christmas miracle’ by having her mother with them next year.

She previously said she fears she could be accused of murder if she helps her seriously ill mother travel to Dignitas.

However, Dame Esther admitted such a decision would put her family and friends in a difficult position as they could be prosecuted should they decide to join her.

Rebecca told TalkTV: ‘It’s impossible, isn’t it, because I can’t even say to you, I would support my mum on her journey to Dignitas because if I said that, that’s legally murky.

‘Obviously, in my head, I would have thought that I would never let her go alone to somewhere like that, but I’m a busy working mum. I can’t leave my children to pop off to jail while she’s buzzing off to Switzerland.

‘The fact is only three people a year get prosecuted. But the actual process of going through a court case at what is the worst time of my life so far.

‘You know, mum is my person. I do not want to live without her. I will have to live without her and please, please don’t make it worse for me by accusing me of murdering her and making me go through what would be a terrifying legal process.’

Dame Esther has called for a free vote on assisted dying as it’s ‘important that the law catches up with what the country wants’.

Speaking on the current illegal status of assisted dying in the UK she pleaded: ‘This cruelty must stop.’

She continued: ‘The current law was intended to protect the vulnerable, to stop them being pressured into suicide.

‘And of course precautions are vital. But bad cases make bad laws, and in trying to prevent crime the law at the moment denies us the most valuable freedom of all, the freedom to choose when to end our own suffering.’

She said she will find out in a few weeks if a new medication she has been taking is ‘performing its miracle’ or if it has ‘given up’.

Asked about the current rules on assisted dying, Ms Wilcox said: ‘Why would it be a problem to set up regulation around this?

‘We have regulation around everything. I’ve been trying to adopt a dog and the forms and licenses and things that go through that is ridiculous.

‘So death and birth are possibly the most important moments in your life.

‘My death, I want it to be exactly how I want it to be and I think coming together, making a law, making structures, making regulation that respects my opinion on my body and my death for everybody is the only sane way.

‘It would stop the money-makers who want to make money from people’s death and frankly if you’re going to give someone a good death, make some money out of it as long as you’re helping them.

‘I have to say, Dignitas does not look like a very lovely place. I would much rather have diamonds and champagnes and a hot bathtub, and it doesn’t look like they supply that, and I think mum would too. We both model ourselves on Dame Joan Collins who is fabulous.’

Ms Wilcox had earlier told ITV’s Good Morning Britain how her mother, who has also worked as a broadcaster for several years, ‘doesn’t care what anyone else says’ as she prepares to join her family for what tragically could be her last Christmas.

Rebecca broke down as she watched an emotional video montage of Esther, admitting her diagnosis is the news 'no one wants to hear' (seen together in 2017)

Rebecca broke down as she watched an emotional video montage of Esther, admitting her diagnosis is the news ‘no one wants to hear’ (seen together in 2017)

‘It’s horrific and she always promised us she would live forever. She’s not usually one to break her promises so we’re a little upset about that.

‘I would personally want to ground her plane if she was going to fly to Zurich but I know it’s her decision. I just don’t ever want her to go.’

Ms Wilcox also spoke of the heartbreak of watching her father, Desmond, endure a slow and painful death as he battled heart disease, adding: ‘That’s what mum wants to avoid.’

Dame Esther said that if ‘nothing’s working’ she might ‘buzz off to Zurich’ in Switzerland but realises this would put her family and friends in a difficult position as they could be prosecuted should they decide to join her.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world and affects more than two MILLION women a year

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Each year in the UK there are more than 55,000 new cases, and the disease claims the lives of 11,500 women. In the US, it strikes 266,000 each year and kills 40,000. But what causes it and how can it be treated?

  • Trisha Goddard’s Health Battle: TV Presenter Reveals Incurable Cancer Recurrence

Trisha Goddard’s Health Battle: TV Presenter Reveals Incurable Cancer Recurrence

Lizzie recently revealed her Hampshire home was targeted by burglars while she was inside the property, leaving her completely ‘terrified’.

The socialite took to Instagram last month to reveal the ‘frightening’ ordeal as she claimed her home was hit by suspected thieves while she was in the bath.

She told MailOnline of the ordeal: ‘I could hear a loud noise downstairs as if someone was trying to get into my house. I couldn’t move with fear! I was sitting in the bath with the bathroom door unlocked.

‘I had just got into a relaxing bath after a lovely dinner with a friend. The last thing I expected was this!

Lizzie recently revealed her Hampshire home was targeted by burglars while she was inside the property, leaving her completely ‘terrified’

‘The only light on in the house was in the bathroom everything was in darkness as I was going to go straight to bed and I was on my own in the house. It was very terrifying.

‘Little did I know there are two men trying to get into my home but thankfully a passing farmer disturbed them, and they were spooked.

‘The farmer called the police, but the two men jumped in the car, then drove through my fence outside the front of my house, but they drive with such speed that they overturned their own car and flipped it and took my wheelie bin with them as well as my garden fence.

‘I was still in the bath absolutely scared stiff, not knowing what was going on! I have to give huge thanks to Hampshire Police who came round so quickly and stayed with me to make sure everything was ok.

‘The men sadly ran away into the night and their car was stolen, without insurance so we don’t know who they are.

‘If the police didn’t come so quickly, I dread to think what could’ve happened. This is happening too often in rural areas and without someone seeing something suspicious and notifying the police it would have been a very different story, it just shows how much we have to look out for each other and how thankful I am to our police.’

‘The police think I may have been targeted as the people who did this may have thought I was still away in Barbados,’ she continued.

‘It makes me think now to be very careful what I put out on Instagram when I’m away as I would never want this to happen to me again or to anyone else.

‘I’m just so relieved nobody was hurt but I’m very shaken up. You just never think it could happen to you.’

‘I should salute her mother. I know I said before I went off I was going to go and play golf – I’ve lost five pounds!

‘I’ve been running around like a headless chicken. But there is no way on God’s earth, right, looking after a four year old and feeding a baby. I take my hat off to my wife.

But former Celebrity Big Brother housemate Vanessa was heartbroken after discovering Ben had cheated on her.

The presenter reportedly found a string of social media messages and emails from Ben, 50, to other women last year.

Addressing Instagram followers in January, she wrote: ‘You know I’ve said dozens of times that I don’t like being on my own and I don’t like being single.

‘I haven’t stayed in a single night since January 2023, not one single night. I’ve been out every day because I just haven’t felt nice sitting at home on my own. I haven’t felt relaxed enough to do it.

‘Well guess what, tonight’s the night – oh yes! I’m going to do supper, I’m going to eat it.

‘I’m going to have a lovely warm bubble bath and then I’m going to watch some blinking TV and I’m going to enjoy it.

‘That is progress. It’s taken me a hell of a lot of time to get here, an awfully long time. It’s been over 390 nights out in total or something ridiculous.

‘Tonight though is the first exception and that must mean I’m a lot more chilled so thank goodness for that.

‘Everybody’s been so g***** nice and so bloody supportive in the last year. I really can’t thank you enough – it’s meant the world, it really has.

‘So TV, supper, a bath – and do you know what, that sounds like quite a good prospect to me’, she concluded the clip, before signing it off with ‘lots of love’.

Speaking afterwards, Peter revealed filming was ‘powerful’ after he tapped into many of his own emotions.

Peter said: ‘After watching Fabio’s powerful work, I knew I wanted to be a part of it’. Such an incredibly tough subject needs to be highlighted in a way that will hopefully help bring it to the forefront’.

‘For me, playing Jack was incredible, tapping into many emotions. As people may know, I’ve been very open about my own mental struggles in the past, which certainly made it all the more powerful for me’.

Peter continued: ‘Millions of people worldwide are going through mental health struggles, and many find it incredibly difficult to reach out and talk about it’.

‘I’m hopeful that this video will help those in need by showing them how important it is not to bottle things up and encouraging them to talk and get the support they need.’

Speaking to hosts Jeremy Kyle and Rosie Wright on TalkTV, the singer shared his battle to break the stigma around men’s mental health issues.

Peter told how his issues stemmed back to his childhood in Australia where he was bullied and ‘beaten to a pulp’ for being different.

Rosie asked: ‘Talking about mental health in the earlier stages of your career, why didn’t you feel able to do it in the same way you do now?’

Peter replied: ‘I think it was very different in the 90s. Back in the 90s it was very taboo. People think it’s taboo now to talk about it. In the 90s it really was.

‘I think it’s because of the fact that we didn’t have anyone to really talk to about it. You’d go and see a doctor about it and even they were like ‘Oh, you know, you need to maybe go and check in a clinic or… always making you feel that something was really wrong or that you’re broken.

‘The point is that you’re not broken. It’s just something that’s going on. We talk so much about guys, especially saying, ‘If you see anything – a little lump or anything, go and get it checked up.’

‘They say that about a physical state but they never talk about if you’re not feeling right mentally.’

He added in the candid chat: ‘I went and visited every psychiatrist I could think of, I checked myself into clinics in New York because it was the only place no one knew who I was at all. So I felt safe – I could go somewhere, check myself in and tried all sorts of medication.

‘I mainly felt worse but eventually as time went on, I found somebody I could speak to and for me people will argue that medication or therapy may or may not work.

‘For me the combination of the two did because the medication puts you in the right frame of mind to be able to deal with the problem. But you’ve got to deal with the underlying problem.’

Rosie then asked him: ‘What was the underlying problem?’

He responded that his difficulties stemmed from childhood which are issues he has since worked through.

Peter said: ‘It’s taken years. It all started probably as a kid when we first moved to Australia at six years old.

‘You know, curly black hair, English accent, big nose… we weren’t just picked on, we were beaten to a pulp because it was different back then in Australia. Now it’s multicultural but back then [it was different].’

‘I would never play it as a victim. In fact, I actually think it’s brilliant that I’m allowed to talk about it now to say to people that you can beat something like this, it does take work and it is hard but talking about it is one of the key things as is going and seeing somebody.

‘Being able to talk about it actually gets you halfway to the point.’

Dan Levy’s Crucial Contribution to Adele’s Early Success in the US: Unveiling the Role He Played During His MTV Days When He First Discovered Her Music

Dan Levy has revealed he threatened to ‘quit his job’ at MTV Canada unless bosses booked Adele to perform.

Revealing his role in her success in States, the actor, producer, and director demanded the singer, 35, perform on stage at the studio after hearing her album 19.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2, Dan, 40, told host Jo Whiley: ‘I remember being here listening to Adele, going back to Toronto and then when 19 came out pitching Adele to perform at MTV Canada.

‘And my bosses, who at the time were only into, like, punk music were pushing back and saying, like, “I don’t know”. And I said, “I will quit this job if you do not put this woman on this stage and have her perform. You’re going to regret your decision!”

‘And they booked her and she performed and you could hear a pin drop.’

It comes after Dan claimed nepo babies have to work ‘three times as hard’ to establish their careers – despite admitting to distancing himself from his famous father Eugene Levy for five years to avoid accusations that he was the reason behind his success.

Dan revealed how he kept his family tree under wraps during his formative years at MTV Live as he wanted to establish his success away from his father, 77.

It wasn’t until he believed he had made a name for himself in the industry that he approached Eugene to cocreate hit comedy Schitt’s Creek.

‘I never went to my dad for anything,’ he told the audience at 92NY in New York on Monday night.

‘I think there was a part of him that always wondered why I never came to him.

‘You know the culture, you know how easy it is to judge people who have grown up in the industry.’

He continued: ‘I had gone through high school life, to college, into MTV and they didn’t know who my dad was when I auditioned for MTV, and they didn’t know for five years.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2, Dan told host Jo Whiley: 'I remember being here listening to Adele, going back to Toronto and then when 19 came out pitching Adele to perform at MTV Canada.'

‘And then, when I felt I had established my own relationship with the audience and had a successful television show, I felt like I had earned a place in the conversation, and that’s when I brought him into it.

‘It was only after that, when I had done the work, came up with the idea for Schitt’s Creek, that I knew I had what it took to carry my weight.’

Dan, who was speaking after a special screening of his newly released Netflix film, Good Grief, added: ‘When you’re in those situations, you almost have to do triple the work, justifiably so, to get to a place where you can go, as I did, to my dad and ask him to work for me.’

Schitt’s Creek premiered in 2015 and continued for six seasons, with its finale airing in 2020.

It followed Eugene’s Johnny Rose, the head of the family, who is forced to discover what it means to be a father and a husband after losing everything, and having to rebuild their lives with their only remaining asset, a remote town called Schitt’s Creek, which was purchased as a joke birthday present.

Actress Catherine O’Hara, 69, played his on-screen wife, Moira Rose, while Annie Murphy, 37, played daughter Alexis, and Dan played son David.

Schitt’s Creek was nominated for an impressive 19 Emmy awards, with Dan picking up the gongs for Outstanding Comedy Series, Writing, and Directing for a Comedy Series, at the 72nd awards in 2020.

Dan is the latest celebrity to wade into the nepo baby debate following New York Magazine’s nepotism-themed cover which declared 2022 the ‘Year of the Nepo Baby.’

The feature referenced several famous faces, including Lily Rose-Depp, Maya Hawke, and Dakota Johnson.

At the time, singer Lily Allen, 37, defended those who had been helped by their parents in the Arts, claiming those working in finance are the real problem.

Lily, who is the daughter of actor Keith Allen and producer Alison Owen, claimed: ‘The nepo babies y’all should be worrying about are the ones working for legal firms, the ones working for banks, and the ones working in politics.

‘If we’re talking about real world consequences and robbing people of opportunity. BUT that’s none of my business.’

She added: ‘And before you come at me for being a nepo baby myself, I will be the first to tell you that I literally deserve nothing.’

Jamie Lee Curtis, whose parents were actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, also rejected the discourse around the term, claiming it was ‘designed to try to diminish and denigrate and hurt.’

Elsewhere, Dan revealed his relationship with his father’s work was ‘always quite removed.’

He shared: ‘We grew up in Toronto because he didn’t want us around the industry. He wanted to go and do work and come back to his family – and I know that that must have been a huge sacrifice.

‘I remember all these movies coming out and watching them, thinking, when did you do that? Was this when you were gone for three months in March? Also, what’s in your head? How did you write that? And yet I was completely inspired.’

Turning his attention to his dad’s appearance in the 1999 comedy film American Pie, he exclaimed: ‘I was in high school! People thought that film was about my life!’

Dan made his directorial debut with his latest project, Good Grief, which was released on Netflix on January 5.

Besides directing the film, he also wrote and starred in the comedy-drama, which features Ruth Negga, 42, and Himesh Patel, 33, in leading roles.

Good Grief follows Marcus (Dan), who is mourning the sudden loss of his husband Oliver (Luke Evans), while his two best friends (Ruth and Himesh) help him on his journey of grief and acceptance.

The movie received a limited release in cinemas on December 29.
