Kim Alexis, 64, was an 80s supermodel who posed in bikinis for Cosmopolitan – see her now

Kim Alexis was one of the top models of the 1980s.

She appeared on the cover of Vogue and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and represented brands like Gucci, Perry Ellis and Ralph Lauren.

These days she is away from the spotlight but still thriving as a mother of three living in Arizona.

And she often posts videos and photos about health on her Instagram, and she still looks fabulous.

The 64-year-old catwalk veteran talked to People Health earlier this year about how she has finally felt ‘comfortable’ by accepting herself as is after struggling with hypothyroidism, menopause and weight gain.

That caused her to pull away from public life.

‘People want us to continue looking the way we did when we were younger,’ she noted. ‘We’re not allowed to get older. It’s not fair.’

These days the star – who looks much younger than her years – is active on social media talking about how to age gracefully. ‘I feel great,’ she told People Health as she posed in denim for the cover along with her dog.

The New York native also said during her interview that she has never had any surgery or injections like Botox.

‘And I never will,’ she shared.

The blonde beauty added the older she gets, the more ‘confidence and wisdom’ she has.

Alexis also noted that she has struggled with menopause.

In her 50s she felt a hormonal imbalance, she shared, after she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in the 30s.

The hypothyroid condition resulted in weight gain. ‘I had to learn to be tolerant of myself and learn what I could handle,’ she said. ‘I didn’t always like it but I adapted.’

When she was 54, one of her sons had a crisis, which left her ‘bedridden.’ She learned she had perimenopause.

But she said she was always a glass half full type and after she was given the right medication, she plugged on.

‘I’m figuring things out along with every other woman,’ the cover girl shared. ‘About how to age gracefully, naturally and beautifully.’

She also noted that she retreated from the public eye after her third child because the world is not kind to aging models.

‘People want us to continue looking the way we did when we were younger,’ she noted. ‘We’re not allowed to get older. It’s not fair.’

Kim also reflected on her modeling career which began in 1978.

After she was signed to agent John Casablancas he told her to lost 15lbs but she said that was not easy as she was more athletic than skinny.

That caused her to try to ‘starve’ herself. ‘It was tough,’ the pinup allowed.

At age 23, however, the cash rolled in as she signed a deal with Revlon for Ultima II. Next came marriage and babies, and even some hosting duties.

In the late 1990s, she was host of Daily Edition.

She acted too: in 1993 also appeared with Mike Ditka in the last episode of Cheers.

Alexis was also in the 1993 movie Body Bags, and the 1998 film Holy Man with Eddie Murphy.

In 2005, she appeared on VH1’s reality competition But Can They Sing?

Tapping away on her phone and sipping on a coffee, Gabby toted two black handbags and pinned her hair back from her face.

Her outing comes after the former gymnast admitted that she had feared the menopause was ruining her sex life, as getting intimate with her husband Kenny Logan had begun to feel like a chore.

But, she explained that after starting HRT, the hormone treatment had the opposite effect of increasing her libido to the extent that her and Kenny began engaging in daytime romps.

    WHAT IS THE MENOPAUSE?

Menopause is when a woman stops having periods, and is no longer able to get pregnant naturally.

It usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55.

It is a normal part of ageing and caused by levels of the sex hormone oestrogen dropping.

Some women go through this time with few, if any, symptoms.

Others suffer from hot flushes, sleeping difficulties, mood swings and brain fog, which can last for months or years and might change over time.

HRT replaces the hormones and is the main treatment used to treat symptoms — which can be severe and disrupt day-to-day life.

Menopause happens when your ovaries stop producing as much of the hormone oestrogen and no longer release an egg each month.

Gabby recalled how she first realised she was perimenopausal at the age of 47, but didn’t recognise the symptoms, believing she was too young and instead felt like a ‘lesser version of herself’.

She told The Sun that she didn’t know what was wrong with her and that her normal healthy habits weren’t helping her.

The FIFA presenter explained she only realised what her symptoms were after she invited broadcaster Mariella Frostrup on her podcast, The Mid Point, in 2020.

Gabby – who shares 19-year-old twins Lois and Reuben with her former Scottish rugby player Kenny – said that the honest discussion allowed her to face her own symptoms.

She added that some of the keys signs included anxiety, impatience, shouting at family and friends, losing your temper, feeling tired a lot of the time with low energy levels and having brain fog, while confessing it also seriously affected her sex drive.

She said: ‘My libido was definitely affected by the menopause and perimenopause. I found I didn’t want to have sex with my husband as much, and it felt like something I was going to have to do even if I didn’t really want to.

‘It was almost like, “Is this going to become a duty?” So many women say this and I didn’t want to become one of them.’

Gabby explained that she has always had a healthy sex life with Kenny and always fancied him, so couldn’t understand why she didn’t want to have sex as frequently. much.

She admitted after a doctor prescribed her HRT, she was relieved and even quite emotional to regain her libido and felt she could return to her normal self.

She candidly confessed: ‘My libido came back within about a week and our sex life was back on track — even to the extent of having daytime sex. Our kids will kill me if I say any more!”

The couple hit another hurdle in 2022 when Kenny was diagnosed with prostate cancer which required surgery.

Along with her worries for her husband, the star was also battling empty-nest syndrome and has taken to hobbies to help transition to life without her children at home.

Gabby regularly goes cold water swimming and finds that the process helps relieve her menopause symptoms.

She explained that many don’t realise that the sun affects physical and mental wellbeing, including heart health and osteoporosis, and exercise is a good way of counteracting those issues.

She encouraged other women to read about the menopause before they go through it to minimise the shock of their symptoms, but added that nothing can prepare you for the real experience.

Gabby Logan has opened up about the concerns she had regarding her career as she went through menopause, worried her brain fog would cause her to forget people’s names.

The sports presenter, 51, was glowing in gold as she graced the cover of Good Housekeeping’s July edition ahead of the Paris Olympics.

Gabby spoke candidly in the interview about going through menopause, saying she found the brain fog the hardest as she had concerns it would affect her job.

However since starting on HRT (hormone replacement therapy), the TV personality said she has seen a real different, which she helps by doing regular exercises for her brain.

The former rhythmic gymnast also lifted the lid on why her 13-year marriage to Scottish rugby star Kenny, 52, has stayed strong.

Gabby looked sensational in an array of striking white and gold ensembles for the Good Housekeeping cover.

She donned two vibrant gold gowns, showing off her impressive figure, while in another snap she sported a white power suit with pearl studs on the arms.

Of her experience with menopause, Gabby said: ‘The thing that affected me most was the brain fog. Feeling slightly unsure about things was such an unfamiliar feeling – and I thought, “Oh, God, am I going to keep doing my job if I can’t recall somebody’s name?”

‘Fortunately, HRT has been great and I try to do regular exercise for my brain now, whether that’s testing myself on remembering numbers or people’s names.’

Gabby also said she always carries a piece of paper with her when she’s on set, so that she can write down notes to help her remember things.

The Welsh presenter married sportsman Kenny – who she shares twin children Lois and Reuben with – in 2001 when they were aged 28 and 29 respectively.

On having such a long-lasting marriage, Gabby said the key is being there to support one another when it gets tough, learning that marriage is a ‘team sport’.

She said: ‘Sometimes there’s going to be a player who needs picking up, and other times they’re the star of the game and it’s someone else who needs the boost.

‘With a marriage, it’s the same: you’re never walking along the same bit of road at the same time. We also never stop working at it. A marriage isn’t something you can just leave to be and hope it’s all right in 15 years; it needs a bit of assessment.’

But while Gabby’s life is full of love, she suffered an unimagineable tragedy as a child when her brother died aged 15.

Gabby lost her brother Daniel, an aspiring footballer, aged 15 when he collapsed and died while playing the sport with their father.

She said: ‘It’s strange because you don’t lose your brother and think, “Well this is a good life lesson,” but at some point you realise that, actually, you have learned a lot – and that you’ve been exposed to a depth of emotion that you didn’t know existed.

‘It’s taught me how resilient we are as humans, how we can come back from really dark days and things that make you go, “What’s the point? Why are we here?” And that you can laugh again and find joy in life.’

In 2022, Gabby revealed she was terrified her son Reuben would die before the age of 16 after her brother died as a teenager.

She suddenly realised she was living in fear when Reuben celebrated his 16th birthday.

Of her experience with menopause, Gabby said: 'The thing that affected me most was the brain fog' (Pictured in December)

Gabby, who is mother to both Reuben, now 18, and his twin sister Lois, explained on The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett podcast according to the Mirror: ‘When my son was nearly 16 – a few days from Daniel’s birthday – I realised that I’d been worried about him not being 16 because Daniel never got there.

‘So I did have a fear I was going to repeat history.’

Gabby said she also obsessed over the birth dates of young footballers when she first started working in television as she was worried they would meet the same fate as her brother.

Daniel, who was four years younger than her, had an undiagnosed heart problem and died in 1992 after playing football in the garden with their father, former Leeds United star Terry Yorath.

Gabby added: ‘Even a few years afterwards I could find myself sobbing. When I started working in football I used to be obsessed with dates of players’ births because they would be Daniel’s age.

‘And I knew he might be playing in that match. You wonder, ‘What kind of player would he have been?’. I wonder if he’d have had a girlfriend by now, or met somebody he wanted to marry, or now I wonder if he’d have children.’

Last month, the actress, 58, who played Heather Trot on the BBC soap, opened up about having been diagnosed with womb cancer in 2015.

Cheryl received the all-clear last year – and has since revealed that she kept her cancer diagnosis quiet in part due to a concern about losing work and income.

On Sunday, Cheryl was pictured with her husband of 12 years Yassine, who is 20 years her junior, as they headed out to a Chinese restaurant in Thorton-Cleverleys, Blackpool.

The soapstar, who has a son Alex, 24, from her first marriage to Jamshed Saddiqi, revealed her secret stage two womb cancer battle last month after being diagnosed in 2015.

She kept her health problems private after getting the terrifying diagnosis nine years ago but in April shared that she thought she was going to die – calling it ‘a horrendous time’.

Cheryl revealed earlier this month that Dame Barbara Windsor paid for her mortgage after she struggled to pay the bills when she was diagnosed with stage two womb cancer.

She appeared on Loose Women where she discussed the moment she was diagnosed and revealed the huge gesture her friend Dame Barbara, who was the iconic Peggy Mitchell on EastEnders, did to help her out before she passed away in 2020.

Cheryl told the panel: ‘Barbara Windsor and Paul O’Grady all helped me.

‘I remember Barbs saying: “Come on you’ve got to come round my house”. So I went there and to the toilet.

‘I explained everything that was going on and I was going to have my operation very soon. Her husband Scott got his chequebook out.

‘She went: “So how much are your bills then?” She wrote a cheque out to help me pay for my medical bills and my mortgage.’

Barbara passed away after a seven year battle with Alzheimer’s age 83, with her devoted husband Scott Mitchell by her side, 61, after becoming her carer in her final years.

Speaking about why she finally decided to go public with her health battle, she said:  ‘I kept it quiet for a long time to process it. If you don’t work you earn no money so I had to put on a smile and get on with it.

‘For me it’s about letting women know they should listen to their bodies.

‘We don’t have time for ourselves. When something happens you need to act on it. I wouldn’t have been alive if I hadn’t taken action.’

Announcing her secret health battle, Cheryl told Ok! Magazine last month: ‘There were some dark moments, especially at night, when I thought, ‘Am I going to die? Am I going to leave my husband without a wife, my son without a mum?’

‘But the time is right to talk about it all now. I’m hoping my story might empower other women.

She then went to see her GP and she was referred for tests and a biopsy at a local hospital in Kent.

Four months after that she received the news she had stage two womb cancer.

Cheryl has now told how hearing the doctor’s diagnosis was like an ‘out of body experience’.

She said: ‘I was in absolute shock; stunned to the core. I couldn’t believe the doctor was talking about me.’

Olivia Munn Takes ‘Risky’ Step to Retrieve Eggs Amid Cancer Battle for Another Baby with John Mulaney – Talks about Struggles of Treatment on Her and Son

Olivia Munn has revealed that she decided to undergo ‘risky’ egg retrieval amid her ‘tiring’ cancer battle because she and her partner John Mulaney are desperate to have ‘one more baby.’

Olivia, 43, who is already mom to her two-year-old son Malcolm, revealed earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2023 and has undergone four surgeries, including a double mastectomy, with the treatment putting her into medically induced menopause.

In an exclusive interview with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan, the X-Men: Apocalypse actress confirmed that she made the decision to go through a round of egg retrieval because she and 41-year-old John ‘weren’t done growing our family.’

‘John and I talked about it. Right after the double mastectomy I went through a round of egg retrieval. That’s scary because I have a cancer that feeds off of hormones so I knew there was a risk,’ Olivia told Michael, whose daughter Isabella was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in October 2023.

‘Our doctor said, “look, we’re going to get one for you and then we’re going to call it”. Then the doctor called and he said, “hey, we got the results back, it’s two healthy embryos”. We just started bawling crying, both of us.

‘I really just hope it works out for us to have another baby. We just want one more. I’m not going to ask for too much more in this life, I promise. I just want one more baby,’ Olivia explained.

Referring to the treatment, the mother-of-one continued: ‘The hormone suppression therapy is brutal. It gave me next level debilitating exhaustion, I was in bed all day long, all day long. My quality of life was so minimal. I wasn’t able to be there for my baby.’

When Michael asked if Malcolm had ‘noticed a change’ in his mother, Olivia replied: ‘Yeah. I mean, whenever Malcolm would come home, he would run to my bed because that’s where he knows I am.

‘That’s what he associated with me, that was just too difficult for me to take. I had to find out if there was another option so I opted to do the hysterectomy with the ovariectomy. Almost immediately after that my energy just came back full force,’ she added.

After receiving a false diagnosis of Herpes, Berry found out the truth about her painful symptoms: she was experiencing perimenopause, or the beginning stages of menopause when estrogen levels begin to drastically decrease.

The proposal would set aside $125 million for clinical trials, public health and medical research on menopause.

The leftover funds would be used to support menopause diagnosis, detection, treatment and raising awareness.

‘Menopause is not a bad word, it’s not something to be ashamed of, and it’s not something Congress or the federal government should ignore,’ Murray said.

Seventeen female senators — three Republicans, 13 Democrats and one independent — voiced their support for the bill.

On Thursday, more senators expressed their hope that the bill will make starting the conversation about menopause easier and less taboo.

Berry is one of many middle-aged female celebrities who have become candid about their menopausal journey.

Drew Barrymore has invested into Evernow, a menopause telemedicine company. Wile, a company that sells supplements, was founded by Judy Greer. Stripes, founded by Naomi Watts, offers menopause products, AP News reported.

Last year, President Joe Biden announced a new program to help improve federal research on women’s health, particularly menopause.

The National Institutes of Health’s director, Dr. Monica Bertagnolli, said that there is not enough research done for women’s health, especially older women.

While the legislation gained rare bipartisan support, the future of the bill is uncertain given the nation’s polarizing political climate and the presidential election just around the corner.

Although Congress is notoriously male-dominated, Murkowski said she was looking forward to winning their support, as their fiscal support is pivotal in funding research.

‘If men went through menopause we would have adequately and appropriately funded the research (into) menopause decades and decades ago,’ said Murkowski.

Why Sofia Vergara chose not to have a child with Joe Manganiello: ‘My marriage wasn’t conducive to raising a child’

Sofia Vergara has shared why she decided to not have more children after welcoming her son Manolo 32 years ago.

The 51-year-old told the digital issue of People that it just was not the right time to have a baby with husband of seven years, Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello.

‘There’s things in life that might sound like good ideas, but they’re not,’ she explained to the site.

‘I was a mother already,’ she said. Vergara has son Manolo, 32, with her first husband, Joe Gonzalez.

‘I know what it means to be a good mother or to try to be the best mother that you can, and that takes a lot of sacrifices, takes a lot of energy,’ she shared.

And she described how she felt: ‘I totally respect where anyone wants to be a mom after 50. I didn’t think because of my career, the way I live my life, the way my marriage was, that it was fair to bring a kid to this world, and I’m not going to be able to give 100 percent.’

Vergara split from Joe last year and they finalized their divorce this year.

She is still very close to her son. ‘It is great that I had him young, because now I’m going to be 52, and he’s 32,’ she says.

‘I wish I was older sometimes, because I would’ve been more mature, more prepared to be a mother, but that was what I got and what happened,’ she noted.

‘So I just kept going and try not to look back at it, because it is what it is. But it is fun because I kind of grew up together with my son.’

She had her boy in her teens: ‘It happened to me very, very young. I was not even 20 years old, so I don’t even remember that much of my life without being a mother.’

Sofia also said that motherhood ‘changes you, and it’s very rewarding and gives you a lot of headaches too.’

But she is more than ready for grandkids.

‘I already kind of like what he does with me. Manolo has a dog, and on the weekends he just drops the dog at my house. And I used to drop him at my mom’s house during the weekend so that I could at least go out every once in a while.’

She also said she is doing fine after her divorce from Manganiello.

She is one of the most gorgeous pinups in Hollywood at the age of 51.

And the diva from Colombia has no plans to show any signs of ageing, she shared with People.

‘I’m going to fight it every step of the way!’ said the Griselda actress.

And Sofia also confirmed that she is happily dating. She has been linked to Dr Justin Saliman.

‘I think now that I’m older, it’s great because you know exactly what you like,’ the actress said. ‘I just do what makes me feel confident and beautiful.’

And she loves to keep herself looking her very best.

‘I think because I’m Latin, we always grow up thinking about looking good, doing your hair, your makeup. It’s something that makes you feel good,’ she said.

‘I love beauty products. I love makeup, I love clothes. And I think now that I’m older, it’s great, because you know exactly what you like, what looks good on you, what doesn’t look good on you. I don’t do what is in fashion. I just do what feels good, makes me feel confident and beautiful.

Vergara also said she was ‘very nerdy’  in school.

‘I liked school. I had to study a lot. I wasn’t one of those kids that had to just go to class. No, I had to put in the time and the work. I had a big Latin family, of course—I mean, it’s gigantic—and I was always with them. I was always around kids and girls my age and my friends. It was great.’

As a teenager she was ‘very skinny and not very voluptuous at that time.’

She said: ‘So it took me some years to fill in, and then I started feeling confident. But at the beginning I was like, “Oh, I don’t have anything.” And then God punished me. [Laughs].’

This comes after she shared a look at the scary and long scar on her knee after undergoing ‘major’ surgery.

The star revealed last week she underwent medical procedure but did not explain exactly what it was for.

The Modern Family veteran had on a strapless white dress with her knee propped up as she bit into a rainbow colored slice of cake.

‘Here you work and enjoy even with the mocha pata!!!’ she wrote in her caption.

Last week she thanked her ‘handsome’ doctor boyfriend Dr. Justin Saliman for helping her out.

‘If u ever get a mayor (sic) knee surgery make sure u Get a handsome doctor who will sleep with u that night!!!!’ the America’s Got Talent judge wrote in an Instagram story with a picture of her boyfriend standing by her bed.

‘Luv u Dr @jdsaliman,’ she said, completing the posting with a red heart.

The snap shows the Modern Family star’s knee wrapped up in a bandage between a splint on the bed and the good doctor, who is wearing navy blue scrubs,  is smiling down on her with his hand on her leg.

It’s unclear how the Griselda star hurt her knee of if the orthopedic surgeon is the one who performed the undisclosed procedure.

According to his website, Saliman is the inventor of the Novo Stitch Pro Meniscal Repair system, which allows a surgeon to repair meniscus tears rather than remove the damaged area.

The couple have been dating since October 2023, but they have mostly steered clear of talking about the other on social media.

Ricki Lake defends weight loss without Ozempic, while Barbra Streisand faces backlash for questioning Melissa McCarthy’s use of the drug

Ricki Lake has hit back at accusations that she has been using Ozempic to shed the pounds, as Barbra Streisand sparked public furore for speculating if Melissa McCarthy had used the drug.

Ricki, 55, recently lost 30 pounds in four months and has been open about her weight loss journey while showing off her slimmed-down figure.

But she was recently forced to deny that she had been using Hollywood’s new favourite weight loss medication, which suppresses hunger by tricking your brain into thinking you’re full.

Taking to her Instagram on Friday, the actress shared a slew of new snaps from a trip to New York City.

Among the photos were several beaming selfies of the TV host, where she could be seen looking noticeably slimmer and toned.

Captioning the shots, she gushed: ‘NYC, once again you spoil me! ❤️ #iloveny #happy #proudmama #love #friends #springtime’.

Ricki was flooded with messages from her fans, declaring she looked ‘fabulous’, ‘beautiful’ and ‘glowing’.

However, one follower accused the star of having ‘Ozempic face’ – the term used to describe the rising new look in Hollywood as a result of the drug, causing sunken in eyes, gaunt cheeks and saggy skin.

The follower took to the comments to write: ‘That Ozempic face is real! Damn!!!’

But Ricki was having none of it, and hit back by simply correcting: ‘NOPE’.

The Hairspray star previously revealed her incredible transformation in February and insisted she did it ‘without relying on a pharmaceutical.’

She explained that she and her husband Ross Burningham had each lost 30 pounds in four months, in the ‘healthiest way’.

She took to her Instagram to share some before and after progress photos, and said  her weight loss journey took place while she is in perimenopause – the transition period before menopause, which can slow down metabolism.

In the lengthy caption, Ricki penned: ‘Hi friends. I’ve been wanting to share with you what I’ve been up to these last 4 months. On October 26th, 2023 I made a commitment to myself to get healthier.

‘My husband, Ross joined me in this effort. Together we have each lost 30+ lbs. I really want to share, because we did this without relying on a pharmaceutical. (Not that there is anything wrong with that.)’

‘But neither of us were pre diabetic and both of us felt like we wanted to at least try and do it on our own,’ the star — whose highest weight was 260 pounds — went on.

‘Being 55 and in perimenopause, I was a bit worried, that my body would not drop the lbs like it had in the past.’

She went on: ‘I am so so proud of us. I feel amazing. I feel strong. I will go in depth in another post of what I did exactly, but suffice to say this is the healthiest way I’ve lost weight in all of my years.’

‘First pic – taken today on our daily hike,’ she shared, referring to a snap of her in a straw hat and grey sweatshirt, with Ross strolling behind her.

‘Second pic and third pic 11/3/23,’ she added, in reference to a snap of her and Ross hugging, and another one of her on the beach, both of which displayed her fuller figure.

    ‘(I only started weighing myself on 11/15/23) guessing I was about 170 when I started. I’m 5’3”,’ she explained, adding the hashtags ‘#healthy #fitat55 #proud #thisis55.’

‘I’m conflicted because I am proud of myself. When I lose that weight, it is something I want the world to know, I did this. It’s a lot of work and a lot of willpower, so I want to talk about it, but I know that it’s not the best thing to be celebrating.’

The drug is usually prescribed to individuals who have type two diabetes and need to improve their blood sugar, but it’s become wildly popular as a weight-loss aid ever since the FDA approved the active ingredient in it, semaglutide, for weight management.

It acts like a hormone in the brain, and causes people to feel less hungry while slowing the clearing of food from the stomach.

Many of Hollywood’s most well known faces have undergone major body transformations in recent months coinciding with the rise of the injection.

While some celebs have owned up to using the medication, others have vehemently denied it and insisted that they achieved their weight loss naturally – fueling a furious wave of ‘have they or haven’t they’ speculation.

The EGOT-winning entertainer was quickly at the receiving end of huge public backlash, calling out the nature of her inquiry.

Several described the line of questioning as ‘rude,’ ‘nasty,’ ‘disgusting and disrespectful’ and indicative of a vapid mentality in Hollywood.

Another said that Melissa ‘looks healthy, no matter how she got there’ and that they were ‘surprised at the lack of respect’ Barbra showed with her question.

While Barbra did not respond to the angry criticism, she did quietly delete her comment.

There has been much speculation for the past few months over whether Melissa was using Ozempic, but she hasn’t publicly confirmed or denied the rumours.

The Bridesmaids star has had ups and downs whereas it comes to weight loss, as she lost 70 pounds in 2003 via an all-liquid diet for her part in Gilmore Girls.

She added: ‘I stopped over-analyzing, over-thinking, over-doing anything… I just stopped constantly being worried about it and I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked.’

The following year, she told Extra that there was ‘no trick’ nor ‘nothing to tell’ regarding her 50 pound weight loss.

She said: ‘Just super boring life. You bring it real down, you don’t do anything fun and you go to bed at 7:30 – that’s the trick.’

Olivia Munn shares emotional experience of being unable to pick up her two-year-old son after cancer surgery: ‘That was one of the toughest moments’

Olivia Munn continues to share her cancer journey with her friends and fans, including her most recent, heartbreaking discovery.

When she got home from one of her surgeries, her son Malcolm, two, said: ‘Mama, pick [me] up?’ she told People.

‘And I said, “Oh I can’t pick you up.” And I squatted down to give him a hug, and then he just sat on my leg and goes, “But Mama, pick [me] up!”

‘That was probably one of the hardest things because all you want to do is pick up your baby,’ she revealed.

It has been a long and hard road for Munn, 43, with four surgeries, a double mastectomy, and medically induced menopause. But she has gotten through it thanks to her ‘strong little family’ of three which includes her boyfriend John Mulaney, 41.

At the time, it was just three days after her double mastectomy, and she was in a great deal of pain and quite ‘out of it’ mentally from the medications.

‘When I woke up, it was really painful and I was really out of it, and I had actually lost a lot of blood and my surgery went from what was supposed to be an 8-hour surgery to a 10-hour surgery because of that blood loss,’ Munn told the outlet.

‘So the first part is tough because it’s just a lot of pain. You’ve gone through a massive surgery and I didn’t really at that time think about what I had lost, because you’re all bandaged up,” she said.

And then she got home and her darling son, whom she previously called ‘magical’ in a social media post, was excited to see her and wanted to get as close as possible to his mommy.

Another watershed moment came when she asked her young son: ‘”Where does Daddy work?” And he ran to his office and pointed to his desk. And I said, “Where does Mommy work?” And he ran to my bed, and that crushed me.’

She added that one of the hardest parts of all she’s gone through is how much time she’s spent in bed.

But, she assured the outlet: ‘I’m finding more energy and he’s happy, so it makes me happy.’

Through all she’s been through, she’s found joy in her son.

‘When I’m with Malcolm, it’s really the only time your brain doesn’t think about that you’re sick,’ Munn explained.

Previously, Olivia described the ‘shock’ she experienced when she saw her body for the first time following a double mastectomy.

The actress underwent a lymph node dissection, a nipple delay procedure and a double mastectomy during her battle with breast cancer, after she was diagnosed around a year ago and had all the operations in the space of 10 months.

The mom-of-one revealed that ‘nothing’ could have prepared her for ‘what it would look like’ in a new candid interview with People, adding that she ‘absolutely broke down.’

A week after having the double mastectomy she went for a post-surgical check up, which is when she saw her body without bandages for the first time with her doctor.

‘It was a shock. It was a shock to my system. I had such a hard time, I remember just looking in the mirror with him and just having no emotion, just taking in what he was saying,’ she shared.

Munn woke up from her 10-hour double mastectomy on May 24, 2023, and opted for expanders instead of immediate reconstructive surgery in order to allow her body time to heal and rest.

Expanders are silicone implants placed under the chest wall muscles or tissues to gradually stretch the skin and create space for permanent breast implants.

The Predator star — who shares two-year-old son Malcolm with comedian boyfriend Mulaney — said when she saw herself for the first time, ‘I was in shock. It was incredibly hard.’

‘I really tried to be prepared, but the truth is that nothing could prepare me for what I would feel like, what it would look like, how I would handle it emotionally. It was a lot tougher than I expected.’

She said that not even the doctor’s reassurances about the results looking ‘fantastic’ could be a comfort at the time.

‘The doctor was telling me how fantastic it looked. Which made it even harder. Because fantastic is top, you don’t get better than fantastic. So I thought, this doesn’t get better.’

‘When I got home, I undressed and looked in the mirror again, and that’s when I just absolutely broke down,’ she added.

After having her reconstructive surgery in the fall, Munn has come to terms with the changes in her body.

She also started hormone suppression therapy in November to reduce future risk of cancer, putting her into medically induced menopause, causing hot flashes, thinning hair and exhaustion.

‘It’s much better, but it’s not the same, and that’s okay. Because I’m here, and I’m extremely happy that I got the opportunity to fight, she said.

She looked like she was having a great time at the launch as she posed with her team at the store.

It comes after Trinny declared she will continue to take hormone replacement therapy (HRT) ‘until she dies’.

Trinny has previously opened up on going through early menopause and said she will ‘do everything’ to ease her symptoms.

Revealing a day in her life to The Sunday Times, Trinny detailed her morning routine, including the supplements she takes when she wakes up.

She explained she takes high dosage of liposomal vitamin C, calling it ‘a miracle vitamin’ and added: ‘I’ll be taking HRT until the day I die.’

She has also changed her diet to better help her body as she has grown older, revealing she has the same breakfast every day – ‘a big bowl of steamed broccoli, omelette and two slices of toasted pumpernickel bread’.

Trinny also explained that she has turned her back on her usual indulgence of four sugars in her tea.

She explained she has cut out sugar entirely from her diet after reading The Glucose Revolution by Jessie Inchauspé, which looks at how sugar effects the body with age.

Trinny previously spoke about how she had made this change in order to combat the symptoms of menopause.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald in November, she said: ‘Going through menopause is confronting and confusing. Our bodies and skin start to feel strange.

‘During this time you need to think about how certain foods can trigger symptoms. I always ask myself – am I eating too much sugar that I can’t process during menopause?’

Last year, the What Not To Wear star admitted that menopause can be ‘incredibly debilitating’ and vowed to ‘do everything’ to ease her symptoms.

In October, Trinny told The Shift podcast: ‘I do all general hormone treatment but I stimulate my brain, I do meditation, I do strength training four times a week. I want to look after my body tremendously, so it can look after me’.

She explained she believed that going through 16 rounds of IVF triggered her early menopause.

The businesswoman gave birth to daughter Lyla in 2003 through fertility treatment after struggling to conceive.

But soon after, and still in her early forties, Trinny admitted that she felt like her ‘mojo had gone’.

She explained she was offered antidepressants after seeing ‘lots and lots’ of medics, but claims she was later told by Dr Erika Schwartz, author of The Hormone Solution, that she had actually undergone an early menopause caused by IVF, with each round having supposedly shaven a year off her cycle.

Trinny told the podcast: ‘I read this book called The Hormone Solution which she [Dr Schwartz] wrote. And I went to see her in New York and she just laid it out for me.

‘She said, “You did 16 rounds of IVF, that’s about 16 years of your cycle because each time you do a round of IVF you produce 10-12 eggs and that’s what you’re producing in a year”.

‘Never been told that. I wouldn’t have given a s*** because I had Lyla. But it was interesting that my mum went in at 57 and there I was at 43 and so I’ve been very focused on it.’

Trinny said she only had a ‘few symptoms’ of early menopause, but that she didn’t recognise them straight away.

Olivia Munn, 43, shares her battle with breast cancer treatment-induced menopause and the emotional journey of undergoing multiple surgeries and a double mastectomy

Olivia Munn has revealed her bilateral breast cancer was ‘much more terrifying’ because she was caring for a toddler.

She and her boyfriend John Mulaney share a two-year-old son called Malcolm, who was just one when Olivia was diagnosed a year ago.

This March, she revealed that she underwent four surgeries in a 10-month period as part of her cancer battle, including a double mastectomy.

Now, in a cover interview with People, she has laid bare the harrowing process of driving the illness into remission, which ‘was a lot tougher than I expected.’

The 43-year-old actress disclosed that she is now going through medically induced menopause in order to reduce the risk of a recurrence.

‘I’m constantly thinking it’s hot, my hair is thinning, and I’m tired a lot,’ said Olivia, whose menopause is the result of hormone suppression therapy.

She shared that when she underwent reconstructive surgery after her double mastectomy, she opted for smaller breasts rather than larger ones.

‘I know a lot of women want to go bigger, but [I said] go smaller. It’s so important to say what you want out loud – and don’t stop,’ she said. ‘Even as the anesthesia was making its way into my body, the last thing I said was: “Please go smaller.”‘

Olivia’s cancer battle began last year with an astonishing diagnosis – just three months after she had a mammogram that indicated she was healthy.

Her surprise was compounded by the fact that had gotten a negative test for a cancer gene mutation not long beforehand.

She ‘did all the tests that I knew about’ and as a result was ‘walking around thinking I had no breast cancer’ shortly before she was diagnosed.

When she received news that she had cancer in both breasts, she ‘was not someone who obsessed over death or was afraid of it in any way’ but confessed that ‘having a little baby at home made everything much more terrifying.’

Olivia, who was about to start shooting a film at the time, realized ‘cancer doesn’t care who you are; it doesn’t care if you have a baby or if you don’t have time. It comes at you, and you have no choice but to face it head-on.’

Although having little Malcolm at home made the initial news scarier, the task of taking care of him helped Olivia cope with her treatment.

‘When I’m with him, it’s the only time my brain doesn’t think about being sick. I’m just so happy with him,’ she explained.

‘And it puts a lot of stuff into perspective. Because if my body changes, I’m still his mom. If I have hot flashes, I’m still his mom. If I lose my hair, I’m still his mom. That’s really what matters the most to me. I get to be here for him.’

Her medical team underwent a double mastectomy and also gave her the option of having a nipple delay procedure in order to preserve her nipples.

Although the latter procedure was not mandatory, she opted to go through with it ‘to give myself the best shot of keeping the parts of me that I can keep.’

The treatment process was psychologically fraught, as ‘[t]here’s so much information, and you’re making these huge decisions for the rest of your life.’

Olivia remembered: ‘I really tried to be prepared, but the truth is that nothing could prepare me for what I would feel like, what it would look like and how I would handle it emotionally. It was a lot tougher than I expected.’

Once the operation was over, the doctors discovered a ‘tangerine-sized’ pre-invasive cancer in her right breast, which ‘gave me peace that I’d made the right decision.’

Having John around also helped her soldier through her struggle with her illness, which ‘would’ve felt like climbing an iceberg without him.’

She recalled: ‘I don’t think he had a moment to himself, between being an incredibly hands-on father and going to and from the hospital – taking Malcolm to the park, putting him to nap, driving to Cedars-Sinai, hanging out with me, going home, putting Malcolm to bed, coming back to me. And he did it all happily.’

Olivia also shed light on her decision to remain secretive about her cancer battle until months after she went through her double mastectomy.

‘Keeping it private for as long as I did allowed me time to fight without any outside noise at all,’ the Oklahoma native said.

Olivia and John’s romance first went public in mid-2021, on the heels of the comedian’s split from his wife Anna Marie Tendler.

He announced that Olivia was pregnant in September of that year and they welcomed Malcolm into the world just before Thanksgiving.

The baby’s arrival was the culmination of a whirlwind 12 months, in which John’s marriage collapsed and he went to rehab for alcoholism and cocaine addiction.

When he revealed that his girlfriend was expecting, John declared: ‘Olivia and this baby have helped save me from myself in this early journey out of recovery.’

‘We know that we’ve got a big problem with pornography. It’s time that we kicked back against that and against violence towards women, and started showing this is what ordinary people look like and what ordinary bodies look like.

‘That is the beauty of the show – there’s an educational element. I’d be on board with getting it shown in schools, there is nothing titillating about Naked Attraction. There is nothing pornographic or sexual exciting – if anything, it’s like opening up a biology manual.’

Anna also spoke about if she would ever strip off and said she would if it were for a good cause.

The presenter said she is learning to be accepting about her body as she ages and ‘draws the line’ at going under the knife’.

Radio host Jackie O Henderson was given some answers on Wednesday when The Kyle and Jackie O Show’s resident medical expert diagnosed her skin condition

‘Well it could be on the list for one of the triggers or new soaps. It could also be hay fever,’ he continued.

Jackie O was left horrified last month when Dr Hay diagnosed a lump on her breast.

She got defensive when the medical expert told her that the lump was a wart or seborrheic keratoses – a benign skin lesion.
