Jodie Comer looked battered and fraught as she was seen filming gory scenes on the set of 28 Years Later. 

The Killing Eve actress, 31, was announced in April to be starring in the second sequel to the 2002 film 28 Days Later, with Danny Boyle returning as director.

Reprising his role from the first movie, Oscar-winning Cillian Murphy will return as Jim, joined by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Erin Kellyman and Jack O’Connell.

Jodie, who will play a Geordie character in the post-apocalyptic flick, was spotted filming in the Northumberland countryside on Monday.

She looked distressed as she was seen running away from terrifying zombies, who were naked and covered in blood.

Jodie wore a long cream cardigan over a tartan shirt as well as a floral, mud-stained dress, with white tights and light pink legwarmers. 

She recently revealed she had been taking inspiration from Girls Aloud star Cheryl for her Newcastle accent.

According to an interview with ELLE UK, Jodie has been looking back at old episodes of Cheryl on The X Factor to master the twang.

The original zombie apocalyptic film debuted in cinemas 22 years earlier in 2002 – with Cillian taking on a leading role.

The sequel is slated to be the third instalment in the franchise and the first in an upcoming trilogy.

Danny, who directed 28 Days later, as well as original writer, Alex Garland, are also returning. The pair notably only served as executive producers on the second movie, 28 Weeks Later (2007).

Both Danny and Alex are producing the new project alongside Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice and Bernie Bellew, while Cillian is an executive producer.

While talking to The Independent earlier this year in January, Cillian revealed if he would possibly star in the franchise once again.

‘I would be there in a flash,’ he admitted. ‘I made two movies with both of those guys, and I would love to work with them again. Of course, I’m there.’

In the 2002 film, Cillian took on the role of a bicycle courier who wakes up from a coma only to find that an ‘incurable virus had spread throughout the U.K.’ and ‘a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary.’

Alongside Murphy, other stars that were cast in the movie included Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, Megan Burns and also Brendan Gleeson.

A sequel titled 28 Weeks Later came out in 2007, with director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo stepping behind the camera.

Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau and Catherine McCormack starred in the second instalment.

It is Jodie’s second apocalyptic film in recent years, after her heartwrenching performance in the climate crisis drama The End We Start From.

Jodie starred as Mother in the movie adaptation of Megan Hunter’s novel which sees her character navigating motherhood for the first time during a terrifying apocalyptic flood .

The film, which was released in the UK in January, begins with Jodie giving birth before she embarks on an extraordinary journey of strength and resilience as she raises her baby during the first year of his life during the climate crisis.

She revealed that she was terrified when she began filming as she had to work with 15 different babies on set.

She told the BBC: ‘I started this process quite literally terrified. My hands were visibly shaking when I met an eight-week-old on set. I was like, “Oh my god, what have I done?”

‘It’s one thing to act and think about everything else, but then actually being conscious of this precious little being and making sure that they’re safe.’

Jodie said she felt that during the process, she followed the arc of her character – as both herself and Mother began overwhelmed by motherhood but later settled in.
