REVEALED: How the only Harry Potter actor who stood by JK Rowling in trans battle has been rewarded with role in major TV adaptation, writes GRANT TUCKER

When the young cast of the new Harry Potter TV series begin filming this summer, there will be one familiar face they can turn to for advice.

Not Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson or Rupert Grint, the former child stars who played wizarding heroes Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in the original film franchise.

Instead it will be Tom Felton, who played Potter’s arch-enemy: the villainous, peroxide-blond Draco Malfoy.

I am told the 37-year-old has endeared himself to Warner Bros – the parent company of HBO which is producing the new series – and more importantly to Harry Potter creator JK Rowling.

While his co-stars have publicly distanced themselves from the author for her gender-critical campaigning – including her support for the recent Supreme Court ruling that trans women are not legally women – Felton has refused to criticise her. And now – 14 years since the release of the eighth and final film – his loyalty seems to have paid off.

‘Everyone knows that Tom has Jo’s blessing,’ a source told me.

‘While others turned their backs on her, he treated her with dignity even if he disagreed with her.

‘And now it seems he will be the one original cast member who will be involved with the new production.’

Fans hope a grown-up Felton will return to the new series as Draco’s villainous father Lucius, who was played by Jason Isaacs in the original franchise. While I’m told that this is unlikely, showrunners want to use him in other ways.

‘The producers want to keep the television series separate from the original movies,’ my insider added.

‘Tom has expressed an interest in visiting the set and meeting with the actor playing Draco, and Warner is keen to make it happen. There has even been talk of getting him involved in creating behind-the-scenes content for HBO which could form part of a documentary about the making of the TV show.’

It is quite a feat by Felton, who is also known for his roles in the West End and in Hollywood franchise Planet Of The Apes. He remains close to Radcliffe, Watson and Grint, and has previously told me they still keep in touch via a WhatsApp group.

But, unlike his co-stars, he has refused to be drawn into the debate about Rowling’s views on the trans community.

Pressed on his views in 2022, he appeared to stand by the author, saying: ‘No one has single-handedly done more for bringing joy to so many different generations and walks of life.

‘I’m constantly reminded of her positive work in [the literary] field and as a person. I’ve only had a handful of meetings with her but she has always been lovely. So I’m very grateful for that.’

Rowling’s relationship with the original cast deteriorated in 2020 after she published a 4,000-word essay on her website, writing that women should be defined by their biological sex and not their gender identity.

Some hoped Felton would play Lucius Malfoy in the upcoming show, with Jason Isaacs taking the role of Draco's father in the original franchise

Rowling's rift with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint was sparked by the author's outspoken views on trans issues

Rowling’s rift with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint was sparked by the author’s outspoken views on trans issues

Daniel Radcliffe responded with his own statement, released through LGBTQ charity The Trevor Project, saying that ‘transgender women are women’.

The now 35-year-old reignited the row in an interview with US magazine The Atlantic last May, when he said that Rowling’s views ‘are not the views of everybody associated with the Potter franchise’.

He added that he and Rowling have not spoken since the controversy erupted, saying: ‘It makes me really sad, ultimately, because I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met, and the books that she wrote, and the world that she created, and all of that is to me so deeply empathic.’

Emma Watson, 35, also spoke out after Rowling’s initial comments, posting on X: ‘Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.’

Rupert Grint, 36, also waded into the row, telling The Times in 2022: ‘I liken JK Rowling to an auntie. I don’t necessarily agree with everything my auntie says, but she’s still my auntie.’

That same year, Rowling was notably absent from the franchise’s 20th anniversary reunion, which aired on HBO, amid rumours the rift was to blame.

And it certainly doesn’t seem to be healing. Just last month, Rowling appeared to take a swipe at the three former child stars when she replied to a tweet asking: ‘What actor/actress instantly ruins a movie for you?’

Without missing a beat, she wrote: ‘Three guesses.

    ‘Sorry, but that was irresistible.’

Now, despite their two-decade connection with the franchise, I can reveal that the trio have been ‘kept in the dark’ about the new TV project. So much so that they weren’t even informed that a remake was in the works.

And, to add insult to injury, they will only learn which three young actors will be playing Harry, Ron and Hermione when HBO officially announces them in the coming months.

‘It’s heartbreaking for the three of them,’ one insider told me. ‘Their childhoods were devoted to creating Harry Potter and it held such a special place in all their lives.

‘But now as the world looks forward to seeing the stories on screen again, they are a mere afterthought, with no involvement in the new series. Instead they face the prospect of being completely replaced in the minds of future generations of Harry Potter fans.’

Those fears are well-founded according to another industry source, who has been working on the new series ahead of filming this summer at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire.

Rowling will serve as an executive producer, with HBO saying she has been ‘very involved’ in the series to ensure it is a ‘faithful adaptation’ of her seven books.

Indeed, my source says Rowling is ‘relishing the opportunity’ to breathe new life into the books – and banish the memory of the original stars who she believes have thrown her under the bus.

The source added: ‘Jo adores the magical world she created and can’t wait to bring it to life again with young, fresh talent.

‘This is her chance to move on from all the vitriol she has endured at the hands of those she made famous and start again with a new set of faces.

‘In many ways, it is her ultimate revenge for their betrayal.’

Not, however, for Tom Felton. Earlier this month, Warner Bros invited him to open a new Harry Potter experience in Chicago on an all-expenses-paid trip.

Standing inside a recreation of Ollivander’s Wand Shop, he said he was ‘very excited’ to see the new series – which will star US actor John Lithgow and comedian Nick Frost.

Pressed further on whether he would like to return, he said: ‘I’m not opposed to that at all. Any chance to be part of the Wizarding World is a good one.’

But, with a cheeky smile, he added: ‘I’ll definitely be sneaking into a background shot as an extra.’

Daniel Radcliffe put on a loved up display with his long-term girlfriend Erin Darke as they graced the red carpet at the opening night of the Broadway musical Just in Time on Wednesday.

The Harry Potter actor, 35, seemed to be in high spirits as he turned up to watch the new Bobby Darin musical at The Circle in the Square Theatre in New York City.

He looked dapper as he stepped out in a smart grey suit layered over a colourful pastel yellow and green shirt.

The actor added shiny brown brogues to complete his outfit as he wrapped his arm around his stunning girlfriend.

American actress Erin, 40, looked ethereal in a cream and pink frilly floral maxi dress, which cinched in at the waist before flowing out into a long skirt.

She wore her long brunette tresses in loose curls and opted for a glowing palette of makeup to elevate her natural beauty.

The smitten couple, who have been together since 2012 and welcomed their first child in April 2023, appeared to be on cloud nine as they shared a joke on the red carpet before heading inside.

Daniel and Erin first met on the set of 2013 American biographical drama film Kill Your Darlings.

They played a couple in the film, with Daniel later admitting that he was immediately attracted to Erin.

Last year, the British actor picked up his first ever Tony Award for Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical Tony for Merrily We Roll Along – and made rare comments about Erin and their son in his speech.

He said: ‘My love, Erin. You and our son are the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I love you so much. Thank you so much’ – as a tearful Darke watched from the audience.’

He added: ‘Thank you so much. Okay, I’m going to just talk fast and try not to cry.’

It comes as Daniel is yet to speak out after JK Rowling has been celebrating the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment that trans women are not legally women.

Harry Potter stars Daniel. Rupert Grint and Emma Watson who have vocally opposed her stance on gender identity have so far stayed silent.

Justices in London ruled last week that in the 2010 Equality Act, the definition of the term ‘women’ relates only to biological women.

Judge Lord Hodge warned against taking the ruling as a ‘triumph’ for either side, but gender critical campaigners have celebrated the finding as a victory.

Multi-millionaire author Rowling, who reportedly helped fund the women’s rights campaign group which brought the Supreme Court case, shared a photo online from on board her $150 million superyacht puffing a cigar in celebration.

She told her 14.3million followers on X, formerly Twitter: ‘I love it when a plan comes together.’

Yet while she has been commenting at length on social media about the Supreme Court decision, fans have noted the apparent silence from stars who featured in the blockbuster movie adaptations of her Harry Potter books.

Daniel, Emma and Rupert have spoken publicly in support of gender ideology – that biologically male trans women should be regarded as women.

And they have each commented in opposition to Rowling’s views on the issue, while expressing their gratitude for her role in their careers.

The author herself appeared to aim a jibe at them last month, when sharing on her X account a response to another user who asked: ‘What actor/actress instantly ruins a movie for you?’

Rowling wrote: ‘Three guesses. Sorry, but that was irresistible.’

And she previously indicated in April last year she would not forgive Radcliffe nor Watson as she criticised celebrities she said had ‘cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights’.

On that occasion the multi-millionaire author hit out at stars accused of using their ‘platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors’ after the release of the long-awaited Cass report into gender treatment in the UK.

  • The Harry Potter rich list: Eye-watering sums the child stars such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Robert Pattinson have made… including the VERY surprising actor who’s only made £3m

The Harry Potter rich list: Eye-watering sums the child stars such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Robert Pattinson have made… including the VERY surprising actor who’s only made £3m

It’s been 14 years since Daniel Radcliffe played Harry Potter. Yet the actor, 35, is still cashing in from the role which made him a star, having reportedly amassed almost £100million from the business he uses to channel his on-screen earnings.

Investment-savvy Radcliffe is believed to have earned £75million by the time he finished the last of eight Harry Potter films in 2011 – but that has since increased by £20million-plus.

According to the latest accounts filed with Companies House, in the 12 months to March 2024 alone, he boosted his income by £6.6million.

Despite starring in a string of stage and screen roles – even winning a Tony Award for his role in Broadway musical Merrily We Roll Along last year – nothing has come close to his best-known role as the boy wizard.

Yet in recent years, divisions between Radcliffe and the woman who gave him his big break, author JK Rowling, have played out very publicly.

While Rowling, 59, believes women’s rights are being eroded by transgender activists, many of the young actors who starred in the Harry Potter movies, including Radcliffe and Emma Watson, who played Hermione, have either criticised her comments or distanced themselves from them. Radcliffe admitted last year that he and Rowling haven’t spoken for four years.

Harry Potter stars Ron Weasley, played by Rupert Grint, Harry Potter, played by Daniel Radcliffe, and Hermione Granger, played by Emma Watson

Few doubt that these stars owe their careers to the feminist author. But just how much money have her creations made for them? Here’s a rundown of the many millions the cast have accrued since the first film was released in 2001…

    1. Daniel Radcliffe – £96.3million

Radcliffe played the eponymous role of the boy wizard in all eight films, reportedly being paid £1million for the first – when he was just 12 years old – and a total of £37.5million for the final two. That’s before the royalties rolled in.

He has now accrued a fortune of more than £96million, securing himself 29th place on the Sunday Times 40 under 40 Rich List.

While he has admitted ‘nothing in my life’ is likely to have happened without Rowling, he also insists it doesn’t mean he has to compromise on the things he ‘truly believes’, stating: ‘Transgender women are women.’

While Radcliffe has gone on to secure other screen roles – including playing Arthur Kipps in the 2012 adaptation of The Woman In Black and alongside Ethan Hawke in the soon-to-be-released Batso, based on a true story about trailblazing mountain climbers – nothing he has done since finding fame as a young wizard has been quite so box office busting.

The actor, who grew up in Fulham, West London, the only child of Marcia Gresham, a South African-born casting agent, and Alan Radcliffe, a literary agent from Northern Ireland, holds a substantial chunk of his wealth in Gilmore Jacobs Limited, set up in 2000 by his parents to manage his finances, which invests in property and theatre companies.

Radcliffe, who has a one-year-old son with his long-term partner and fellow actor Erin Darke, has homes in both west London and New York’s fashionable West Village.

    2. Emma Watson – £67million

Clocking in at number 39 on the Sunday Times 40 under 40 Rich List, Watson, 34, has accrued a fortune of around £67million since being cast in the role of swotty Hermione Granger.

Her total estimated earnings from playing Hermione, the closest person Harry ever had to a sister, amounted to £49million, £24million of which came from The Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 and 2.

Watson’s high profile also brought her to the attention of casting directors for 2017 blockbuster Beauty and the Beast – she earned £17million for her starring role as Belle. She then earned an estimated £3million for taking on the mantle of Meg March in the 2019 film adaptation of Little Women.

Meanwhile, cosmetics and fashion brands queue up to hire the beauty, whose woke credentials are a big hit with younger generations – as well as criticising Rowling, Watson also expressed a preference to be referred to as ‘self-partnered’, rather than single, coining a new term.

She has been the face of Burberry, Lancome and Prada Beauty fragrance Paradoxe and was also appointed the youngest member of the board of directors of Kering, which owns fashion brands including Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

The daughter of lawyers, Watson went to £27,000-a-year Dragon School in Oxford. She has shown considerable business nous with her investment company, Hestia Hebe, notching up a wealth of £23.2million, and launched Renais, a gin distillery in Dorset.

    3. Rupert Grint – £40million

Grint, 36, reportedly made £21million playing the role of Harry’s best friend Ron Weasley and has since doubled his fortune to £40million.

Referring to his income from playing Ron, Grint once said: ‘It was kind of ridiculous what we got.’

While he too has been critical of Rowling’s comments about women’s rights, he has also likened her to an auntie, saying: ‘I don’t necessarily agree with everything my auntie says, but she’s still my auntie.’

Since hanging up his wizard’s cloak, Grint has starred as Julian Pearce in Apple TV horror series Servant since 2019, and as Walter Gilman in 2022 Netflix anthology Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.

He has also worked some magic of his own on his property portfolio.

Dad to four-year-old daughter Wednesday with his partner of 13 years, fellow actor Georgia Groome, he co-owns Clay 10, which manages investments as well as TV and film income, and Eevil Plan Properties, which manages his £24million housing empire, with his father Nigel.

    4. Tom Felton – £16million

Although only 12 when cast in the role of snobbish and power hungry bully Draco Malfoy, who antagonised Harry and his friends, Felton began his acting career aged six, and had already appeared as Peagreen Clock in the 1997 film The Borrowers.

He reportedly earned £14million for his time as Draco but confessed to wasting his fortune on frivolous purchases in the early days of his fame, including flash cars and lavish gifts for his family.

‘I had been working for eight years and all I had to show for it was this horrible debt. At one point we had the bailiff at the door,’ he said.

However, Tom has since had numerous film and TV roles to help rebuild his fortune – including in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and alongside Twilight’s Ashley Greene in 2023 film Some Other Woman.

Tom Felton reportedly earned £14million for his time as Draco but confessed to wasting his fortune on frivolous purchases in the early days of his fame

In May 2022, he made his West End debut in the play 2:22 A Ghost Story.

Later that year his book, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, in which he recounts the struggles with drugs and alcohol which led him to rehab, became a Number One New York Times best-seller.

Does his £16million fortune make it all worth it? Apparently not.

‘One thing that people keep on saying to me is that the wealth and the fame must have made up for missing out on my childhood,’ Felton said back in 2010. ‘But the idea of money — putting a price on your childhood — is ridiculous. You will never get those years back and you can’t put a price on them.’

    5. Robert Pattinson – £80million

Hollywood heartthrob Pattinson, who, aged 17, got his big break playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, the fourth in the series, admitted to GQ magazine: ‘I spent a lot of time living off the Harry Potter money.’

Although his character, a prefect and captain of the Quidditch team, was killed off by Voldemort’s henchman Peter Pettigrew, meaning Pattinson couldn’t appear in future films, the estimated £2million pay packet supported his efforts to pursue a music career.

However, when the money ran out and he still hadn’t ‘made it’ Pattinson, now 38, returned to acting, appearing in two films, Little Ashes and How to Be, before achieving global fame in 2008 playing vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight, the big screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s fantasy novel of the same name.

Four sequels, based on Meyer’s other novels, followed, putting around £10million into Pattinson’s coffers.

After several years starring in independent, lower budget, films, Pattinson earned megastar status in 2022 playing Batman in the superhero smash hit, the sequel to which is due to be released in 2027.

Pattinson and his actress fiancé Suki Waterhouse, who have homes in west London and Los Angeles, had their first child in March last year.

Pattinson credited his role in the Potter movie for his glittering success, telling a podcast host: ‘I wouldn’t be acting if it wasn’t for that.’

    6. Matthew Lewis – £8million

In his role as wizard Neville Longbottom, Lewis was said to be one of only two children with the power to defeat Lord Voldemort.

While he may not have been the one to put an end to the dark lord, Leeds-born Lewis, 35, has certainly made a success of slaying the film and TV industry since appearing in all eight Harry Potter movies.

He had a lead role alongside Emilia Clarke in the 2016 hit movie Me Before You, as well as The Rise alongside Timothy Spall. He has also appeared in numerous television series, including Happy Valley, All Creatures Great and Small, The Syndicate and Girlfriends.

Lewis also – albeit inadvertently – has Rowling’s genius to thank for meeting his wife Angela Jones, whom he married in 2018.

The couple met two years earlier while he was participating in the annual Celebration of Harry Potter event at Universal Studios in Orlando, where Angela was a VIP event manager.

    7. Katie Leung – £4million

Leung, 37, had never acted before being cast as Cho Chang, one of Harry’s love interests, aged 16.

The Scottish-Chinese actress made her debut appearance in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth in the series, returning in two of the later films.

She was nominated in the MTV Movie Awards for ‘best kiss’, following her passionate clinch with Harry in Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix.

In 2017, Katie went on to co-star alongside Jackie Chan – she played his daughter – and Pierce Brosnan in action thriller The Foreigner.

A year later she performed alongside John Simm and Dervla Kirwan in ITV drama Strangers and has had numerous other roles in theatre and TV, most recently in BBC1 thriller Nightsleeper.

Katie was pregnant while filming series two of Now TV’s Annika, in which she plays DC Blair Ferguson and gave birth to her son, Wolf in October 2022.

    8. Evanna Lynch – £3million

Lynch, 33, made her first appearance as quirky witch Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth in the series, in 2007 at the age of 15.

Having earned her keep, the Irish actress then had a prominent role in the final three films.

Indeed Evanna, who went on to have a career on both stage and screen – providing the voice of Gentry in The Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2020 and that of Betty in last year’s animation film My Freaky Family – credits the role of Luna for helping her overcome anorexia, for which she had been hospitalised several times from the age of 11.

During her illness she wrote to Rowling, stating that ‘her books and her kindness really made me want to live again’, and, she has said, was delighted when the author wrote back, sending ‘incredible, wise letters’.

However, back in 2020, Evanna weighed in with her co-stars, claiming it had been ‘irresponsible’ of Rowling to ‘discuss such a delicate topic’ as transgender rights on social media, adding: ‘That said, as a friend and admirer of Jo, I can’t forget what a generous and loving person she is.’

Then, in an interview in 2023, Evanna appeared to have had a change of heart.

‘I was very naïve when I was dragged into that conversation,’ she said. ‘I didn’t even know there were two sides. I had a view of, like, good and bad. I do have compassion for both sides of the argument.’

Marcia and Alan Radcliffe have been looking after the actor’s firm ever since he received his first cheque of £800,000 for the first Harry Potter film in 2001.

Speaking to The Sun about how the star has earned such a mammoth sun, an insider explained: ‘Even devoted fans of Daniel, of which there are many, will be shocked by the fortunes he’s racked up since he left the famous franchise behind and started a new chapter.

‘But it seems his money isn’t just based on how much he’s been paid for his acting work, it’s also down to shrewd investments he’s made along the way which means he has a steady income, whatever happens.’

For the eight Harry Potter films, Daniel is said to have earned a total of £75m, but has increased that sum by almost 30 per cent since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in 2011.

It comes after last year it was revealed that he had doubled his cash reserves to more than £16 million, with company filings revealing he as property worth more than £3.3 million.

He has allegedly been making around half a million pounds a month, on average and owns homes both in West London and in New York.

After his famous breakout role, Daniel went on to star in films like The Woman in Black, Kill Your Darlings and Victor Frankenstein.

He also delved into the indie genre, making waves in 2016 for his quirky role in Swiss Army Man and starring opposite Toni Collette, in critically acclaimed independent film Imperium.

Daniel recently appeared with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum in 2022’s The Lost City, and will reprise his role from Now You See Me 2 in the upcoming third film in the trilogy this year.

He has also began receiving greater critical acclaim, bagging his first Emmy nomination for playing the titular role in 2022 biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

While last year, Daniel won his first Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance as Charley Kringas in 1981 Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along.

He has also recently become a father, after his long-term partner Erin Darke welcomed a little boy in April 2023.

Daniel and Erin, 40, first met on the set of 2013 American biographical drama film Kill Your Darlings playing onscreen lovers, with Daniel later admitting that he was immediately attracted to Erin.

The notoriously private couple have chosen not to reveal their son’s name, but Daniel made rare comments towards his partner and child in June when he accepted his Tony Award.

Fighting back tears as he took to the stage, he gushed: ‘My love, Erin. You and our son are the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I love you so much. Thank you so much’.

In 2022, Daniel spoke out about the ‘terrifying’ and ‘intimidating’ nature of fatherhood.

When asked by E! News how he was finding being a new parent, he confessed: ‘There’s a short answer and a long answer to that. And the short answer is it’s awesome and he’s the best thing that’s ever happened.

‘The long version? It’s frankly terrifying to have a human being in the world that I care this much about.’

He added: ‘Everything he does is going to affect how I feel about my life for the rest of my life. So, you know, that’s intimidating.’

Daniel Radcliffe’s former stuntman double, who was paralysed on a Harry Potter film, has decided to auction his treasured Marauder’s Map from the series for an estimated £40,000 – to pay for wheelchairs and round-the-clock personal care.

David Holmes made the heartbreaking decision to raise funds for a variety of mobility equipment after he also fell victim to a banking scam that cost him thousands of pounds.

Holmes, 40, who was Radcliffe’s stunt double and has remained friends with the Potter acting star, 35, is putting the Marauder’s Map he received under the hammer.

It was first featured in 2004’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban when the Weasley twins gifted it to Harry, and it went on to appear in later films in the series.

Holmes was paralysed from the chest down after breaking his neck in rehearsals for a fight scene in 2009 on the set of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

He spent several months in hospital and has undergone years of treatment and surgeries.

Holmes, whose map is expected to fetch between £20,000 and £40,000, said: ‘Living with a disability like mine is very expensive and the proceeds from the sale will go towards equipment and care.’

Holmes is also hoping to raise cash by releasing a memoir in November, with the same title as a Sky documentary about him, ‘The Boy Who Lived’.

Earlier this year Holmes told how he was left feeling ‘broken’ after fraudsters used a phone scam to grab money which he said was for his care and ‘to escape the pain of winter’.

He was called by someone claiming to be from the NatWest fraud team, who had personal details such as his address and knew that it had been his birthday the day before.

The person also knew he had cryptocurrency linked to his card and suggested transferring funds to a ‘secure wallet’.

Holmes said afterwards: ‘I was very vulnerable at the time. When it comes to birthdays, with my debilitating condition I always ask myself, “Where am I going to be next year and the year after?”‘

NatWest helped him with money he lost from his savings with them, but not the rest of the money which he lost in cryptocurrency.

Despite his injuries, while in hospital David decided that he couldn’t feel sorry for himself after meeting patients who had sustained injuries in a terrorist attack and a hate crime.

His Marauder’s Map will be one of a number of Potter film items, including various wands, being sold between November 14 and 17 at auctioneers Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia sale.

Stephen Lane, Propstore CEO, said: ‘Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction is an opportunity for Harry Potter fans and film memorabilia collectors alike, to take home their own piece from this magical world.

‘With items like Harry’s hero wand and the Marauder’s Map, these pieces truly represent the magic of cinema.’

It comes after David revealed in November that he ‘lives vicariously’ through Harry actor Daniel, after he was left paralysed when performing a stunt for the star.

David was rehearsing a flying scene involving an explosion when he plummeted to the ground while working on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 in January 2009 at the Leavesden film studios near Watford.

The accident snapped David’s neck which resulted in him being paralysed from the chest down, with limited movements in his arms and hands.

A consequent cyst in his spinal cord has resulted in ongoing deterioration and he is likely to soon be fully paralysed, making independent breathing, speech and swallowing impossible.

David told his story in documentary The Boy Who Lived, and spoke fondly about his ongoing friendship with Hollywood star Daniel, who served as an executive producer on the film.

He told The Independent: ‘Every time I see his physicality in films, I can vicariously live through those successes just because I know that those early days it was me that was whipping him into shape and laying the foundation for him.’

The former gymnast added to Radio Times: ‘We grew up together, and he grew to be one of my best friends. I’m so proud of him. You think of how many child stars don’t make it through that pressure.’

Speaking about his feelings towards the Harry Potter films now, he added: ‘I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t have regrets. But around my stunt career and around my contribution to the Potters, no.

‘I had the best job in the world and I’m part of something really beautiful, and you can’t ask for more than that as a legacy. If anyone can take something from my film, it’s understanding that we’re all on borrowed time and that we make the most of it.’

The bond he shares with Daniel is mutual, with the Emmy nominated actor telling The Sunday Times: ‘I always wanted an older brother and Dave was one of them.

‘He was someone that really looked out for me as I grew up and has continued to and I knew I could trust him. That’s something that hasn’t changed.’

His emotional message comes just after the other two members of the iconic trio, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, broke their silences on Maggie’s death.

Daniel first worked with Dame Maggie in 1999 when he was just nine-years-old on TV mini-series David Copperfield in which he starred alongside four more of his future Harry Potter co-stars, including Zoe Wanamaker, Imelda Staunton, Dawn French and Paul Whitehouse.

He rose to fame at 12-years-old when he starred in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone with them all again in 2001.

Paying tribute to her on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Daniel said: ‘The first time I met Maggie Smith I was nine years old and we were reading through scenes for David Copperfield, which was my first job.

Francesca, also known for her work on BBC shows, the fantasy programme His Dark Materials and thriller Killing Eve, will be the showrunner and writer on the Harry Potter series.

Mark, known for HBO’s Game Of Thrones and The Last Of Us, will direct multiple episodes of the series for HBO and Warner Bros streaming channel Max.

The cast of beloved characters including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who had been played by Daniel, Emma and Rupert respectively, will be announced at a later date.

Warner Bros said: ‘Each season will bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.’

Rowling spent almost two decades creating an elaborate magical world beloved by millions of readers across the globe.

But she admitted earlier this year that finally completing the Harry Potter series felt like a ‘bereavement’.

Rowling first came upon the idea for Harry Potter, played in the films by Daniel Radcliffe, below, in 1990 while delayed on a train from Manchester to London.

In 1997, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first of what would be a seven book series was published. But when she completed the final book in 2007, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, she said she felt both relief and a sense of loss.

Rowling said: ‘I lived a huge amount of my life in that world in a way no one else can.

‘Some of those 17 years had been quite traumatic for me, and this was a place I was escaping into. So the idea I would never be able to escape there again was a bereavement.

‘That said, to be very honest, I was on a certain level relieved it was over. I’d done what I set out to do, and the Potter phenomenon had become something no one could have predicted.

‘It sounds bizarre, but [after Potter] I felt, I’m free to fail, I’m free to write what I want, [even] if no one wants to read it.

Daniel Radcliffe and Erin Darke at Tony Awards

Daniel Radcliffe and his long-term partner Erin Darke made a rare red carpet appearance together on Sunday night.

The couple, who have been together since 2012 and welcomed their first child in April last year, looked besotted with each other as they attended the 77th Annual Tony Awards.

The Harry Potter star, 34, placed an arm around Erin’s waist as they laughed and sweetly gazed into each others eyes while posing for pictures.

Daniel cut a dapper figure in a lilac suit and bowtie as he cosied up to his glamorous partner of 12 years.

Meanwhile, his American girlfriend, 39, stood out in a grey ball gown, encrusted with sequins and rhinestones and featured a tulle style skirt.

Erin styled her brunette locks into a chiffon, leaving strands of falling down to frame her face.

Daniel and Erin first met on the set of 2013 American biographical drama film Kill Your Darlings.

They played a couple in the film, with Daniel later admitting that he was immediately attracted to Erin.

Daniel is nominated for best supporting actor in a musical for his role in a revival of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s Merrily We Roll Along, a polarizing 1980s piece that unfolds backwards in time.

His competitors are Roger Bart in Back To The Future: The Musical, Joshua Boone and Sky Lakota-Lynch in The Outsiders, Brandon Victor Dixon in Hell’s Kitchen and Steven Skybell in the new revival of Cabaret.

The 77th Tony Awards take place at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater in New York City.

The event will be hosted by Ariana DeBose who had previously been nominated in the Best Featured Actress in a Musical category for Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.

The 32-year-old Wilmington, North Carolina native also also won an Oscar for Steven Spielberg’s movie adaptation of the Broadway classic West Side Story.

Angelina Jolie will be hitting the stage as she leads the star-studded presenters list.

The 49-year-old A-lister will be the top name bestowing honors on Broadway’s biggest night on Sunday as nominations were announced back in April.

She is not the only big name hitting the stage as other presenters include Taraji P. Henson, Jennifer Hudson, Jeffrey Wright, Patrick Wilson, and Nick Jonas will also have important duties.

In addition Idina Menzel, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Nate Burleson, Cynthia Erivo, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Josh Gad, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Sean Hayes will also be presenting.

The Harry Potter star, 34, made a rare outing with his beloved girlfriend Erin, 39, as they were seen wandering around the big apple as a family.

The couple, who have been together since 2012, welcomed their first child in April 2023 and decided not to reveal their baby boy’s name.

Daniel cut a casual display in a plain black T-shirt and denim jeans, while American actress Erin wore a khaki grey vest top and distressed ripped jeans.

The iconic actor looked every inch the doting dad as he embraced the tot in his arms.

Last year, Daniel spoke out about the ‘terrifying’ and ‘intimidating’ nature of fatherhood.

Asked by E! News how it was being a new parent, Daniel said: ‘There’s a short answer and a long answer to that.

Daniel shared his wonder over the duality of babies: how they can ruin your night with their cries then make your day with their bright smiles in the morning.

Daniel and Erin first met on the set of 2013 American biographical drama film Kill Your Darlings.

They played a couple in the film, with Daniel later admitting that he was immediately attracted to Erin.

Daniel recently appeared on the CBS talk show to perform a song from his Broadway show, Merrily We Roll Along.

It was slated to run through January 2023, before it was picked up as an official Broadway production at the Hudson Theatre for previews in September 2023.

It officially opened in October 2023, marking the first time the musical had been on Broadway since the original 1981 debut.

The revival earned rave reviews and broke house box office records, leading to the production by director Maria Friedman to be extended until July 7.

The musical is based on the 1934 play of the same name by George S. Kaufman and Moses Hart, following the lives of three friends – Franklin Shepard (Groff), Charley Kringas (Radcliffe) and Mary Flynn (Mendez) over 20 years, told in reverse chronological order.

The original Broadway production in 1981 starred Jim Walton as Franklin, Lonny Price as Charley and Ann Morrison as Mary, with Jason Alexander making his Broadway debut as Joe Josephson.

Daniel Radcliffe expresses deep sadness over JK Rowling’s beliefs on trans people, despite her refusal to forgive him and Emma Watson for their positions on gender issues.

Daniel Radcliffe has been left ‘really sad’ by J.K. Rowling’s comments about trans people.

The author, 58, has frequently expressed her views that biological sex is more important than gender identity and that women’s spaces – such as changing rooms and prisons – should remain single-sex and not be open to trans-identified people.

Daniel, 34, who shot to fame playing Harry Potter in the movie adaptations of her beloved children’s books – does not agree with Rowling and has said he believes ‘trans women are women’.

He told The Atlantic: ‘It makes me really sad, ultimately, because I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met, and the books that she wrote, and the world that she created, and all of that is to me so deeply empathic.’

Daniel acknowledged the author – who he has hasn’t spoken to since she began voicing her opinions on trans issues – had played a key role in the path his life has taken, but insisted that doesn’t mean he ‘owes’ his beliefs to her.

He said: ‘Jo, obviously Harry Potter would not have happened without her, so nothing in my life would have probably happened the way it is without that person. But that doesn’t mean that you owe the things you truly believe to someone else for your entire life.’

Last month, in response to the publication of the Cass review – which claimed, among other recommendations, there was no good evidence to promote puberty-blocking treatments for trans-identifying young people – Rowling insisted she wouldn’t forgive stars who had spoken out against her, including Daniel and his Harry Potter co-stars.

When one fan said they were ‘just waiting for Dan and Emma [Watson’ to offer a ‘very public apology’ knowing they’d be safe in the knowledge the author would forgive them, she wrote: ‘Not safe I’m afraid. Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.’

In response, Daniel said: ‘I will continue to support the rights of all LGBTQ people, and have no further comment than that.’

The Kill Your Darlings actor has long been a supporter of the Trevor Project, an LGBTQ suicide-prevention hotline and crisis-intervention resource, and he felt he had to speak out against Rowling in the wake of her initial tweets in 2020 when she questioned the use of the phrase ‘people who menstruate’ in place of ‘women’.

He said: ‘I’d worked with the Trevor Project for 12 years and it would have seemed like, I don’t know, immense cowardice to me to not say something.

‘I wanted to try and help people that had been negatively affected by the comments.

‘And to say that if those are Jo’s views, then they are not the views of everybody associated with the Potter franchise.’

Daniel said: 'It makes me really sad, ultimately, because I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met, and the books that she wrote, and the world that she created, and all of that is to me so deeply empathic'

In a series of tweets after following the Cass report’s publication, Rowling wrote: ‘Over the last four years, Hilary Cass has conducted the most robust review of the medical evidence for transitioning children that’s ever been conducted. Mere hours after it was released to the press and public, committed ideologues are doubling down.

‘These are people who’ve deemed opponents ‘far-right’ for wanting to know there are proper checks and balances in place before autistic, gay and abused kids – groups that are all overrepresented at gender clinics – are left sterilised, inorgasmic, lifelong patients.

‘I understand that the review’s conclusions will have come as a seismic shock to those who’ve hounded and demonised whistleblowers and smeared opponents as bigots and transphobes, but trying to discredit Hilary Cass’s work isn’t merely misguided. It’s actively malign.

‘Even if you don’t feel ashamed of cheerleading for what now looks like severe medical malpractice, even if you don’t want to accept that you might have been wrong, where’s your sense of self-preservation? The bandwagon you hopped on so gladly is hurtling towards a cliff.

‘And if I sound angry, it’s because I’m bloody angry. I read Cass this morning and my anger’s been mounting all day. Kids have been irreversibly harmed, and thousands are complicit, not just medics, but the celebrity mouthpieces, unquestioning media and cynical corporations.

‘The consequences of this scandal will play out for decades. You cheered it on. You did all you could to impede and misrepresent research. You tried to bully people out of their jobs for opposing you. Young people have been experimented on, left infertile and in pain.

‘I thought the last tweet was going to be my last, but I just burst into tears. The #CassReview may be a watershed moment, but it comes too late for detransitioners who’ve written me heartbreaking letters of regret. Today’s not a triumph, it’s the laying bare of a tragedy.’

The report by Dr Cass, which was commissioned nearly four years ago, made a series of recommendations to overhaul NHS trans services to improve the care that children receive.

She found that there is a ‘lack of high-quality research’ on the effects of giving children puberty blockers and hormones, and recommended that NHS England establish its own research programme.

The report also called for the creation a separate service for those wanting to ‘de-transition’, where a gender transition is stopped or reversed, and recommended a ‘follow-through service’ for 17 to 25-year-olds to protect teenagers ‘falling off a cliff edge’ in care when they hit 17.

Dr Cass warned that her review had been hampered by how polarised the debate on trans care for children has become. She said medical professionals had been left ‘[too] afraid to openly discuss their views’.

The report found those who socially transition at an earlier age or before seeing a medical professional were ‘more likely to proceed to a medical pathway’.

She said ‘the importance of what happens in school’ cannot be over-estimated and said parents must not be excluded from conversations over their children’s welfare.

Unregulated private clinics were singled out for some of Dr Cass’s toughest criticism as she echoed GPs’ warnings over prescriptions issued by services based abroad.

The review said family doctors had ‘expressed concern about being pressurised to prescribe hormones after these have been initiated by private providers’.

Radcliffe has spoken out in the past to say adults are ‘condescending’ for expressing misgivings over gender transitioning in children.

Speaking in  at a roundtable with six trans and non-binary children organised by LGBTQ suicide prevention charity The Trevor Project in 2023, the actor said: ‘there are also people who also have a slightly condescending but well-meaning attitude of, ‘people are young… and it is a huge decision.’

    Emma

Emma Watson has also expressed her opposition to JK Rowling’s views on trans issues (pictured in September 2023)

He asked the group of trans youths: ‘I would love to hear from all of you about why we can trust kids to tell us who they are.’

He added that there are ‘some people in the world who are not trying to engage in this conversation in any kind of good faith’.

Radcliffe said: ‘I think a lot of the time it’s just because people don’t know a young trans person so there’s just this theoretical idea about this in their head.’

The November before he had fired a thinly-veiled shot at Rowling by claiming young, queer and transgender fans of the franchise were upset by her stance.

His comments were a barbed reference to Miss Rowling’s tweets from June 2020 in which she ridiculed an article’s description of women as ‘people who menstruate’.

Responding to the online article’s headline, the Harry Potter creator then tweeted: ‘I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?’

In response at the time, Radcliffe hit out at the author, saying: ‘To all the people who now feel that their experience of the books has been tarnished or diminished, I am deeply sorry for the pain these comments have caused you’.

Referencing Ms Rowling’s comments, Radcliffe – who at the time stated ‘transgender women are women’ – said that he wanted to let members of the LGBT+ community know ‘not everybody in the franchise felt that way’.

He added: ‘The reason I felt very, very much as though I needed to say something when I did was because, particularly since finishing Potter, I’ve met so many queer and trans kids and young people who had a huge amount of identification with Potter on that.

‘And so seeing them hurt on that day I was like, I wanted them to know that not everybody in the franchise felt that way. And that was really important.’

Meanwhile Watson, who became famous after playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, has previously spoken out on the trans debate.

Ms Watson wrote: ‘Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.

‘I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.’

Their fellow co-star Rupert Grint has also previously spoken up, telling The Times in 2020: ‘I firmly stand with the trans community and echo the sentiments expressed by many of my peers.

‘Trans women are women. Trans men are men. We should all be entitled to live with love and without judgement.’

In March the following year, he explained his decision to voice his opposition to Ms Rowling’s comments saying that while he has ‘huge respect’ for the author, he can still disagree with her views.

Speaking to Esquire, he added: ‘I am hugely grateful [for] everything that she’s done. I think that she’s extremely talented, and I mean, clearly, her works are genius.’

Elaborating on his reasoning, he went on: ‘But yeah, I think also you can have huge respect for someone and still disagree with things like that…

‘Sometimes silence is even louder. I felt like I had to because I think it was important to. I mean, I don’t want to talk about all that… Generally, I’m not an authority on the subject.

‘Just out of kindness, and just respecting people. I think it’s a valuable group that I think needs standing up for.’

Earlier this month, Quinta teased ‘major changes’ in the new season of Abbot Elementary.

The award-winning star told Good Morning America, ‘Season three is so exciting to me,’ but revealed that due to the recent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the season was ‘shortened’ to only 14 episodes.

‘I really wanted to make sure every single one was packed with a punch, because we only have so much time with our audience.’

‘But it naturally forced the writers and the cast, who want to put on incredible performances for each episode,’ Quinta added.

‘I think there are some major changes this season that were always gonna be there for the third season, but because we had this shortened episode count, it was even more important for me to give audiences something exciting to come back to.’

‘But not too exciting,’ she explained. ‘You’ll still see your familiar favorite teachers in Philadelphia and on TV. But I think there will be some fun surprises!’

While also on GMA, Quinta talked about her recent Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

She notably made history by ‘being the first black woman to win in over 40 years for best actress in a comedy series.’

‘I didn’t know that until after the fact. I was just emotional at winning, of course,’ she revealed, adding that after she went backstage, ‘That information was given to me and that made me emotional all over again.’

During her Big Apple tour, Quinta caught a show on Broadway called Merrily We Roll Along – which stars her close friend and Harry Potter alum, Daniel Radcliffe.

She had the chance to also go backstage to visit some of the cast members, including Radcliffe and shared a photo of the moment to her Instagram stories last month.

However, it wasn't the last time she'd take the stage to accept an award that evening, as the series also won for Outstanding Comedy Series

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly published on Monday, the writer revealed her desire to have Daniel on Abbott Elementary to portray the son of Mr. Johnson – played by William Stanford Davis.

‘I love Daniel Radcliffe. He’s a very good, sweet guy, and a friend of mine. For some reason in the [writer’s] room we were like, “What if Daniel Radcliffe was Mr. Johnson’s son?”‘

‘And there’s no rhyme or reason. It’s so dumb. And not like Daniel Radcliffe as somebody, like, Daniel Radcliffe [himself] is Mr. Johnson’s son,’ she explained.

Brunson and Radcliffe are no strangers to working together, and starred alongside each other in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022) as well as the show called Miracle Workers.
