Kevin Costner appears to be carrying more than emotional baggage these days following a tumultuous period marked by a messy divorce and his dramatic exit from Yellowstone, new Daily Mail photos show.

Sources recently revealed that the 70-year-old actor and filmmaker has been leaning on his first ex-wife Cindy Silva, 68, amid his split from Christine Baumgartner and his hit TV series.

It seems like he’s also leaning on comfort food.

Costner was spotted cutting a noticeably portlier figure on Tuesday afternoon during a trip to upscale supermarket Erewhon in Calabasas, California, with his longtime female assistant.

Though the grocery store is a good 60 miles away from his massive $145 million beachside compound in Santa Barbara County, Costner still makes regular trips to Los Angeles for meetings or work.

Dressed in an ivory knit polo shirt, khaki pants and a black varsity jacket, the former Yellowstone star was sporting a heavier appearance as he left the store with his lunch in hand.

Inside, he was seen picking out his meal in the store’s pricey ready-to-eat section. 

Costner appeared in relatively good spirits nonetheless, but seemed eager to keep a low profile and get to his lunch as he exited the store and headed to his SUV with his smiling assistant. 

He was then seen chowing down on the Erewhon delicacies in the parking lot.

The Hollywood star’s change in physique comes over a year after the Daily Mail reported that Costner had dropped almost 15 pounds in the wake of his high-profile split from Baumgartner and was seen getting his clothes altered at a Montecito tailor in August 2023.

At the time, the couple’s divorce was still fresh, and Costner was reeling from the news that Baumgartner, 51, was already dating financier Josh Connor, 49.

Former handbag designer Baumgartner and Costner have three children together –  Cayden, 17, Hayes, 16, and Grace, 14 – and were married for 20 years from 2004 until finalizing their divorce in February last year.

Montecito locals know that Baumgartner and Connor met each other while their children were attending the same private school, where Connor also served as a board member and trustee.

In January, Costner was hit with the news that the new couple are now engaged to be married, with the Daily Mail reporting the details of the stunning five-carat diamond ring Baumgartner has been flashing around town.

Despite Costner recently being linked to singer Jewel, 50, whom he says is just a friend, he seems to be living the bachelor life.

He was married to first wife Silva for 16 years, and, last month, sources told the Daily Mail he’s recently been leaning on her for support.  

‘Kevin and Cindy have stayed close friends, and she has been guiding him in recent months over his heartbreak from Christine as she is a wise woman,’ the insider said. 

‘He really appreciates that their sad split has led to such a beautiful friendship. She is an ally and offers great advice. He leans on her quite often.’

It also helps that they have three children together – Annie, 40, Lily, 38, and Joe, 37 -who are said to be the ‘glue’ of their platonic relationship.

Costner also has a seventh child – a son named Liam, 28, with former girlfriend Bridget Rooney.

‘Often [Costner and Silva] get together for the kids’ birthdays and are able to spend quality time together,’ the insider said. ‘It’s all very amicable and friendly.’ 

Several years ago, Costner expressed he ‘still has love for Cindy,’ calling her a ‘real lady.’ 

The couple met while they were both students at California State University, Fullerton in 1975. They wed in 1978 and Silva filed for divorce in November 1994.

Costner, who reportedly felt ‘sucker-punched’ by the news, appeared in good spirits as he promoted his film, which was previously pulled from movie theaters after the first installment flopped.

The actor looked dapper in a three-piece dark suit and sported a white button-up shirt underneath. 

The doting dad proudly posed with the trio, whom he shares with Baumgartner.

Meanwhile Christine was pictured picking up coffee in Santa Barbara on Friday, as she shared a glimpse at her new engagement ring. 

Aside from the three kids he has with Baumgartner, the Oscar-winner also shares three adult children — Annie, 40, Lily, 38, and Joe, 37 — with ex-wife Cindy Silva, and son Liam, 28, with former partner Bridget Rooney.

Kevin’s youngest son Hayes looked dapper next to him in a black button-up shirt and pants, which he paired with white sneakers.

His older son Cayden sported a long-sleeve grey top, black jeans and white sneakers.

Meanwhile Grace looked chic in a floral dress and beige sandals.

While at the festival, Costner was pictured catching up with director Quentin Tarantino. 

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 is the second part of a Western film series directed by and starring Costner. 

In July 2024 the film was pulled from movie theaters – despite the actor pouring $38million of his own money into the flop $100million project.

Horizon Chapter 1 was released in the United States on June 28, 2024, while Chapter 2 was due for theatrical release on August 16, 2024 – but the first installment has been slammed by critics and failed to ignite at the box office – after Costner’s high-profile Yellowstone exit.

Costner’s Territory Pictures and distribution partner New Line Cinema decided to release Chapter 1 on Premium VOD on July 16 alongside theatrical screenings – while Chapter 2’s release has been indefinitely delayed.

A New Line spokesman told THR: ‘Territory Pictures and New Line Cinema have decided not to release Horizon: Chapter 2 on August 16 in order to give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first installment of Horizon over the coming weeks, including on PVOD and MAX.’

Costner previously told Empire he has taken a gamble by releasing the saga in cinemas.

He said: ‘I had somebody who said, ‘Look, please don’t do this, Kevin, let’s do this.’

‘But I’m glad about what I’m doing. I believe in the big screen. I believe in that experience. I also believe in what will come to your television. You know, I’m not one of those guys that has a director’s cut. The f****** movie I make is the director’s cut.’

The Dances with Wolves star – who is worth an estimated $250million – said: ‘I’m not a fool, but I’m not afraid.’

‘I will own this movie the rest of my life. So will my family. And movies are a lot more than their opening weekend. They have value throughout their life, and I will own this movie throughout my life.’

‘And people will find it. And when they do, whether it’s opening weekend or not, they’re going to find a quality. They’re going to find a story that they’re going to want to revisit or share with someone. And that’s the power of a movie to me.’

‘My hope is that I get this money back, but you know what, I’m not going to fall apart if it (doesn’t happen).

Costner previously revealed in June 2022 that he planned on making four Horizon films in all, shot back-to-back.

Chapter 3 of the film saga started shooting in May 2024. Chapter 4 is in development.

First wife Cindy Silva

In November 1994, Costner’s then wife, Cindy Silva, filed for divorce after 16 years of marriage.

‘We have amicably resolved all issues regarding our children and financial affairs and a full marital settlement has been reached. We ask to be allowed the dignity of sorting through this more painful part of our lives in private,’ a statement from the couple read in 1994. 

Costner and Silva met while they were both students at California State University – Fullerton.

They would go on to have three children together.

The pair split amid multiple reports that Costner had been having an affair with a celebrated hula dancer named Michele Amaral while he was filming his multi-million dollar flop Waterworld in Hawaii.

Eventually, Silva was awarded around $80 million in the divorce settlement.

In a 1995 interview, The Bodyguard star took responsibility for his role in the demise of his marriage, but did not go into detail.

‘A series of events conspired to happen at the same time. I know it hurt some people that I had failed in my marriage. And the marriage was my own failure,’ he said.

Costner said in a 1995 interview with Parade Magazine that he never even spoke to Amaral on the phone.

He also listed off the other women he was supposedly linked to including Playboy model Angie Everheart and the daughter of casino magnate Steve Wynn.

‘It was hard on Cindy and our children. It didn’t help things. The only thing it did was hurt. The collapse of my marriage was the hardest thing of all for me,’ the Dances With Wolves star said.

Costner went on to express his love for his first wife: ‘You can put this on the record. Through all the pain, Cindy’s been what I always thought she was a real lady. I still have love for Cindy.’

Silva supported Costner when he was a struggling actor, taking on odd-jobs that included performing as Snow White at Disneyland.

Short-lived fling Bridget Rooney

Less than two years after his split from Silva, Costner had a son, Liam, with Bridget Rooney.

She is heiress to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the aunt of actresses Rooney and Kate Mara.

In 1996 Rooney insisted that she was ‘110% sure who the father’ of her child was. 

But Rooney still ‘insisted on a paternity test’ to prove paternity, according to a 2002 article from PEOPLE.

That months-long affair is rumored to have cost the actor $7 million.

Liam in now 27-years-old.

‘Mistress’ Michele Amaral 

Costner allegedly had an affair with a celebrated hula dancer named Michele Amaral while he was filming his multi-million dollar flop Waterworld in Hawaii. 

Amaral was also married as well as being a mother-of-two when she met Costner.

A report at the time in the New York Daily News said that the pair met at the Mauna Lani hotel and shortly afterwards Amaral was ‘spotted creeping out of his $4,500-a-day villa.

According to a Departures Magazine feature, Amaral has taught hula across the world and is known as the island’s premier soloist.

The Daily News report said that Silva was alerted to the affair by someone who was working on Waterworld and was fired.

The same article accused Costner of multiple infidelities during his marriage.

At the time Costner strenuously denied the allegations saying that he was merely interviewing Amaral for a job.

During an interview where Amaral was brought up, Costner became infuriated.

‘This woman has done nothing wrong and yet has had to share the harsh light of celebrity with me. I feel embarrassed, and I don’t think there’s one thing I can do to make her life better.’

‘This woman has a name and to make her a thing is the worst part of all. It’s wrong for her and her husband,’ Costner said.

Second wife Christine Baumgartner 

Costner and second wife Baumgartner first began dating in 1998, having met around 1996 while Costner was filming his movie Tin Cup.

The Bodyguard star said that at the time he first met her, he wasn’t ready to fall in love again. 

Both are graduates of California State University – Fullerton. Baumgartner graduated with a degree in business. 

They married in 2004 in Aspen, Colorado, where Costner has long maintained a 160-acre ranch, known as The Dunbar. Rooms can be rented on the property for as much as $36,000 per night.

The reason for the long courtship was because Costner was not sure if wanted more kids. The uncertainty even led them to break up for a period prior to their engagement.

‘Fear kept me from marrying Christine. [She] wanted a child, but I was afraid I couldn’t be an effective father.’

‘I woke up and thought, ‘Am I going to lose a beautiful woman who is willing to be with me to my very last breath because I am afraid to say yes to a child?’ That’s all it took. Sometimes you learn the thing you’re most afraid of will save your life,’ he told Closer Weekly in 2018.

Costner told the Daily Telegraph in 2011 that the reason for his four year hiatus from making movies was because of his new family.

As a recently as 2020, Costner spoke glowingly about how the couple’s relationship strengthened during the Covid-19 pandemic. He told People: ‘Our partnership has really come into focus about what we do for each other and how we deal with our family.’

In 2022, Radar Online reported that Costner was given an ultimatum from his wife. The report said that she was demanding that he quit his hit show Yellowstone due to the fact that he was gone from home so often.

‘The show is such a mega-hit, producers want it to go on forever! [Baumgartner] wants a firm commitment this is his last season — or he might have to!,’ a source told the website.

And on Tuesday, May 2, it was revealed that Baumgartner had filed for divorce after 18 years of marriage.

A representative for the Yellowstone star asked for privacy  while saying that ‘circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action’ with Baumgartner.

The couple share three children, 12, 14 and 15, and both have filed for joint custody.

The family’s primary residence was in Ventura, California, 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, where they also own an oceanfront mansion.

The couple settled with prenup enforced in September 2023.
