Matt Willis took a playful swipe at McFly as he claimed the noughties band only had hits because Busted’s James Bourne wrote them all.
The musician, 41, joined McFly’s Harry Judd, 38, on Capital Breakfast after they announced on Wednesday that they would relive their peak and join forces for a joint tour.
But despite the two being set to share a stage next year, they wasted no time telling each other what they really felt about one another as they aimed brutal insults at one another during Thursday’s programme.
They even went as far as to say that the tour is one to settled a 20-year debate in who is the better.
Harry savagely went for Matt and confessed that he thinks Busted ‘only had a hit because they covered Jonas Brothers’ ”Year 3000”.’

Speaking to show hosts Chris Stark and Sian Welby, Matt said: ‘ ‘This is really happening.
‘You know, I feel like there’s been a bit of bad blood between the bands for the past year, slash 20 years, you know? And it’s like, I think there’s a lot of conversations about which band is better.’
To which Sian reminded Matt of some of his previous insults targeted at McFly.
‘Well Matt, from you specifically, if you would like me to quote you, ”There is absolutely a rivalry, who even remembers McFly?” That’s one of yours’, she added.
‘You also called McFly ‘Tom’s band.’ Last time you appeared on Capital Breakfast, you said, ‘Those boys are getting too big for their boots, they need to remember that they’re actually our support act.’
Harry then later confirmed that the two bands will be separated for the band as he said ‘they’ve definitely got separate tour buses, separate dressing rooms.’
Sensing the tension between the two, Chris said: ‘This is what I don’t get. I was thinking, ”Oh, they’re announcing a tour, they’re going to play together, they’re all friends again.”
‘But what I am getting a vibe off this morning, is that actually no, you’re still kind of enemies, and this is more a sound clash situation.’

Matt continued: ‘Well, it’s a challenge. Right, let’s prove, let’s see what the audience think.’
‘I mean there’s no doubt who is the bigger band.’
Harry quipped: ‘Yeah, right. Us. It was McFly vs Busted, but their egos couldn’t handle it, so we had to change it to Busted vs McFly, just to keep them happy.’
Jordan added: ‘I’m confused. Because I went to see you about 10 years ago – McBusted, that was a thing, wasn’t it?’
To which Harry chipped: ‘That was when everyone had forgotten about Matt and James and McFly pulled them back into relevancy and let them join our band.’
Bemused by his claim, Matt said: ‘I think we pulled you out of theatres into arenas. You know, we pulled you out of the dead end, terrible, toilet venues of England.’
To which Harry did not take lightly and spat: Matt who? James who? So yeah, obviously that was massively successful, because of the ‘Mc’ in ‘Busted.’
‘And Charlie saw that, wanted back in, and then Busted went and did some theatres, I think? Now they’re touring with us and we’re back in arenas.’
Speaking of their tour, it dawned on them that they do still have some old ‘beef’ to clear on.
Matt said: ‘You’ll play your one hit and some other songs, and we’ll come on and smash the hell out of it.’

Comparatively Busted, who formed in 2000, had eight top 10 singles, including four which reached No.1 (pictured L to R: Matt Willis, Charlie Simpson and James Bourne)
Harry then quipped: ‘The only reason they have a hit is because they covered Jonas Brothers’ ‘Year 3000.’
But Matt was having none of it as he clarified: ‘And the only reason you’ve got a hit is because James from my band wrote them!’
Harry concluded: ‘I’m actually feeling a bit of beef here!’

McBusted was a supergroup formed in 2013 by members of McFly and Busted.
Busted disbanded in 2005 after Charlie Simpson left to pursue his other musical project – Fightstar.
For years, James Bourne and Matt Willis expressed interest in a Busted reunion, but Charlie has only in recent years returned.
So with McFly’s well established success they decided to form a supergroup to the pleasure of all noughties fans.
The original McFly band members – Harry Judd, Dougie Poynter, Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher – have continued throughout and have never parted ways.
Busted and McFly announced they are set to reunite for an incredible head-to-head joint tour in 2025.
During McFly’s gig on Wednesday night attended by MailOnline celebrating the band’s 21st birthday, they brought out Busted to reveal the exciting news.
Busted said: ‘Right now here tonight, we challenge you to the ultimate face off, next year, 2025 Busted Vs McFly the tour. The Challenge is yours if you choose to accept it.’
The two noughties bands explained how they will battle it out on a 14-date tour to be crowned the best.
Busted’s James Bourne, Charlie Simpson and Matt Willis, said: ‘The whole tour is to find out who’s a better band. Fans can decide. They can come and support their band and they might change their mind. It’s going to be a fight to the death.’

Matt continued: ‘It has been a long time coming, this tour. Fans have wanted this. There’s a massive crossover in the fanbases but secretly I think everyone likes Busted more.’
Meanwhile McFly is made up of Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter and previously joined forces with Matt and James to form McBusted — releasing a Top Ten album and touring the world.
But the super band split when Charlie decided to rejoin Busted, ten years after quitting.
Charlie, who had hits including Crashed The Wedding and You Said No with Busted, explained: ‘[McBusted] was a different thing. This is very much, we’re doing it as two different bands.
‘The way we’ve set up the show is different to a normal show. It’s not a co-headline tour and there are going to be some surprises along the way which people genuinely won’t have seen before.’
Tickets will go on sale on Friday, October 18, for the 14-date tour, which will kick off in Birmingham on September 16 next year.
McFly achieved 18 consecutive UK top 20 singles, seven of which peaked at number one in the UK Singles Chart. They also won the 2005 Brit Award for Best British Pop Act.
Meanwhile, Busted from Southend-on-Sea, enjoyed four UK number one singles, won two Brit Awards, and sold over five million records worldwide.

In 2013, the two bands combined to become a six-piece pop-punk supergroup called McBusted, albeit without lead vocalist and guitarist Charlie Simpson, who wanted to focus on his rock band Fightstar and a solo career.
Initially, the new group scheduled eleven concerts for April and May 2014 but, due to high demand, this was extended to 34 shows. They also headlined Hyde Park later that year.
In June 2014, the band made their international debut by supporting One Direction on their Where We Are Tour in Denmark.
Their success led them to support One Direction as special guests on the Australian and European legs of their On the Road Again Tour.
McBusted continued to thrive as they signed with Island Records in October 2014 and unveiled their debut single, Air Guitar, which entered the UK Singles Chart at number 12.
Their eponymous album reached its peak at number nine on the charts, and in 2015, the band went on tour for a second time, playing 21 shows across the UK.
However, later that year, it was announced that Charlie Simpson would be rejoining Busted following 10 years away from the band. As a result, the members of McBusted went their separate ways.
