Queen fans branded the Coachella crowd ‘undeserving’ and ‘too young’ after their lukewarm reception to Brian May’s surprise performance on Friday.

The legend, 77, took to the stage during Benson Boone’s set to sing Bohemian Rhapsody with him – but the audience didn’t seem to react much.

As the American star, 22, began to cover the iconic song Brian rose up onto the stage as Benson said: ‘Brian May, everybody!’

And after the lack of enthusiasm for the guest performance fans took to X to say that maybe it was the wrong age group at the festival to appreciate Brian.

They said: ‘Too bad Coachella crowd was just too young to know who Brian May is.. Most undeserving crowd.’,

‘About the lack of energy for Sir Brian May at Coachella: that crowd DOESN’T represent us American Queen fans! I’m just as surprised (& as a Californian, embarrassed)!

‘After the movie & 2023 SOLD OUT US tour, you’d ideally think they’d at least heard of him, apparently not, sadly.’

Benson even reacted himself as he shared a TikTok of the performance and penned: ‘Me trying to get the crowd at Coachella to understand what an absolute legend Brian May is and the cultural impact he has on music and THE WORLD.’

One fan wrote under his post: ‘Brian May deserves a UK crowd. that whole performance would have sent a UK crowd FERAL!’

Benson shared his excitement over the performance, writing on Instagram: ‘@brianmayforreal I have no words.

‘You are easily one of the most legendary musicians of all time and I cannot thank you enough for coming out.’

He revealed he had been rushed to hospital following the medical emergency back in September.

It came after Brian’s wife Anita Dobson recently issued a health update about him on Good Morning Britain after he suffered a stroke.

A legendary musician, astrophysicist and animal rights campaigner, Brian had previously shared in a video posted online that he had suffered a ‘minor stroke’.

On a recent instalment of Good Morning Britain, Brian’s wife and EastEnders icon Anita, 75, chatted with hosts Ed Balls, 58, and Charlotte Hawkins, 49, and provided an update on how he was doing.

Charlotte asked: ‘How is Sir Brian doing, we should ask of course as he hadn’t been well had he?’

‘He’s very well now. I’m very happy to say, thank you both for asking,’ Anita replied.

‘He’s very well now, he’s back to his old self!’

Sir Brian May revealed his medical emergency in a video shared to his personal website last year.

However, Sir Brian, who looked animated and well in the clip despite the ‘scary’ episode, said he could still play guitar following what he called his ‘little health hiccup’.

He asked fans not to ‘clutter up’ his inbox with good wishes, adding that he didn’t want sympathy.

The health scare is his second in four years, after he endured a heart attack for which he underwent surgery.

The Queen guitarist was recovering from a ripped muscle and trapped nerve as a result of a gardening injury, when he suffered a heart attack in May 2020.

He quietly revealed the news of his stroke in the early hours with an Instagram post of the video shared at 1.42am UK time.

‘I’m here to bring you some good news – the good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,’ he said, twiddling his fingers for emphasis.

‘I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago and what they called it was a minor stroke.’

The We Will Rock You writer revealed the incident left him temporarily unable to use his left arm and he had a ‘very exciting’ emergency ambulance journey to Frimley Hospital in Surrey.

He has praised medical staff for giving him the ‘most fantastic care.’

‘All of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary, I have to say,’ he continued.

EastEnders legend Anita Dobson, 75, reveals why she no longer watches the BBC soap – 36-years after leaving iconic role of Angie Watts

EastEnders legend Anita Dobson has revealed why she no longer watches the BBC soap, 36-years after leaving the role of the Queen Vic’s first landlady.

The actress, 75, played Angie Watts from the show’s very first episode in 1985 before bowing out three-years later.

Her memorable stint saw 30M viewers watch the now classic scene when husband Dirty Den (Leslie Grantham) served her with divorce papers on Christmas Day.

However Anita has now admitted that she and Queen drummer husband Brian May, 77, no longer watches her former co-stars – including onscreen daughter Leticia Dean who plays Sharon – as they struggle to keep up with the number of EastEnders episodes per week.

She told The Mirror: ‘I tend to always miss it. But I do try to catch up with stuff now and again. But it’s hard with that because it turns over so quickly. You’d have to be constantly catching up. So no, I have watched bits and pieces.’

‘I don’t really watch television very much at all, I watch things like a series because then you can get your teeth into it, and you can watch it when you want to rather than having to keep playing catch up’.

Anita has been at Brian’s side throughout his setbacks and previously opened up about his stroke during an appearance on Loose Women in October, where she admitted it had been a ‘big wake up call for us both’.

After the panel asked her how Brian was doing,  Anita let out a sigh and responded: ‘I’m very happy to say, sitting here now, he’s stable and he’s got through it.’

The audience broke into applause at the positive news, before panellist Kay Adams added: ‘It’s a big shock though isn’t it?’

Anita admitted: ‘It was… yeah, a bolt from the blue and a big wake up call for us both because you suddenly think, you charge through life don’t you, wanting to do the things you can do, failing and succeeding sometimes.

‘You just don’t think about that inevitable moment when you’re going to have to slow down and this really did make us both, particularly Brian, and me too, think okay, you’re not getting any younger.’

She continued: ‘At some point you are going to have to face the prospect that you can’t do the things you used to do, so you will have to slow down and start making compromises.

‘It has been quite a shock in a way, not a massive shock because thank God he’s alright, still iconic.’

Queen’s Sir Brian May reveals the band hated their first music video because ‘it didn’t feel rock and roll’ and ‘looked like something on ITV’

Sir Brian May has revealed that the band hated their first music video because ‘it didn’t feel like rock and roll’ and ordered it to be re-shot.

The Queen guitarist, 77, made the surprising admission on their YouTube series, Queen The Greatest Special: Behind The Promo Videos.

The music legend was speaking alongside drummer Roger Taylor, 75, about their single Keep Yourself Alive from 1973.

The duo revealed that the band didn’t like their first music promo video for the hit song and explained they thought the lighting was off and the whole thing looked ‘clinical’.

Brian explained that they had wanted a video of themselves playing on a sound stage to send off to TV shows and to spread the word about their upcoming album so they asked some production staff at their record label.

But after taking to the stage and playing their latest release, they realised some major changes needed to be made.

Brian said: ‘We engaged them [production assistants] to make us a video of us playing on a soundstage.

‘Somebody took care of the lighting, Michael Mansfield directed and we did our best and when we saw the end result we hated it.

‘Because somehow the whole thing had become very well lit and looked clinical, it had no atmosphere.

‘It looked like we were dummies onstage – it didn’t feel like rock and roll at all.’

Roger added: ‘That nasty video, very ITV, it didn’t look good. It was early days’.

And after some discussion the band took on creative control and re-shot the video with a black stage and coloured lighting, and the rest is history.

The confession comes as Brian and Roger also revealed their very first TV appearance didn’t even feature the band.

Brian recalled how, in 1973, as the band were preparing to release their debut album Queen, they were trying to get themselves featured on TV shows including The Old Grey Whistle Test and Top of the Pops.

But without a video they were struggling to make headway until they were told they would be featuring on the BBC show.

The pair revealed they were shocked when they switched on the programme to discover a quirky animation had been made to accompany their single.

Brian explained: ‘We had heard from someone that The Old Grey Whistle Test wanted to play Keep Yourself Alive and I remember going back to my parents and it was going to be on the TV.

‘So we were glued to the TV and suddenly there’s this little train coming along an we were mesmerised and someone had put together a really nice video.

‘They didn’t have any footage of us so they couldn’t put together a performance video.’

Roger added: ‘That was our first TV appearance we weren’t in it!’.

Brian’s appearance on the documentary comes after his wife Anita Dobson gave a health update on her husband, after he suffered a stroke in September and was left unable to use his arm.

‘So, yeah, he’s good to go now. He’s playing the piano quite a lot in the house. He likes a lot of Beethoven. I love it – the piano in the house is really, just very relaxing.’

Sir Brian May received a hilarious awakening from X Factor finalist Talia Dean, as he made a surprise cameo in the music video for her new song You Made Your Bed.

The Queen guitarist, 77, has previously collaborated with the singer, 39, on her singles Get Up and Dancing In The Rain with her band Kings Daughters.

In the video of the new pop-fuelled break-up track, Brian can be seen playing his guitar in a bedroom alongside a singing Talia and a group of dancers before the police come calling.

The clip opens with a police officer knocking on the front door and calling through the letter box: ‘Mr May, can we have a chat please, we’ve had a complaint again… dial the volume down.’

Sir Brian May received a hilarious awakening from X Factor finalist Talia Dean, as he made a surprise cameo in the music video for her new song You Made Your Bed

Rewinding 24 hours, Dean can be seen walking out of a house with a suitcase after having an argument with her partner.

She is later spotted singing and dancing in a bar with friends before they join Brian, who is playing his electric guitar, in a bedroom.

The scene is interspersed with clips of a man trying to plug his ears as he rolls around a bed as a police officer can be seen coming to check on the house.

Speaking about the song, Brian said: ‘I see this track as a very important marker in Talia’s career.

‘It’s as if, in this song, she’s shaking off not just a relationship, but a whole way of life which she no longer wants to live.

‘She and I are already working in the exciting new territory which this song predicts. But for now, this is a song packed with pure naughtiness and fun, and makes me smile every time I hear it.’

Promoting the song on Instagram, Brian also revealed Talia gave him the motivation to get back in the studio and he ‘couldn’t resist’ doing some production work on the new song.

Dean appeared as a finalist on the The X Factor in 2017, but was eliminated during the Sunday results after the first live show.

She impressed Brian with her ability and he took the emerging singer-songwriter under his wing, and the pair have been collaborating on musical projects ever since.

Dean said: ‘I see this song as a firm reminder that the world is a huge place with a population of 8.2 billion. Nobody should never stay in a relationship with a person who treats you badly. Know your worth.

‘It’s better to stay single than with a person who doesn’t respect you. No matter what age you are, where you are in the world or what your situation is – it’s never too late to break free and strive for happiness.

‘In recent times I’ve come to realise that I deserve love, attention and respect. I put up with toxic behaviour longer than I should have.

‘I deserve to be with someone who cherishes me and so do you. Live your life and strive for true love. It’s definitely out there.’

  • Queen fans are only just learning the origins of Freddie Mercury’s stage name as Brian May and Roger Taylor recall the inspiration behind iconic singer’s decision to ditch his real surname in the early ’70s

Queen fans are only just learning the origins of Freddie Mercury’s stage name as Brian May and Roger Taylor recall the inspiration behind iconic singer’s decision to ditch his real surname in the early ’70s

Queen legends Brian May and Roger Taylor surprised their younger legion of fans on Monday evening by revealing the origins of Freddie Mercury’s iconic stage name.

Born Farrokh Bulsara, the late singer spent the fist 18-years of his life in Zanzibar before political and social unrest resulted in his family fleeing the African archipelago in 1964 and moving to the United Kingdom.

He would go on to become one of the world’s best known performers with Queen, enjoying more than two decades of prolonged success before his death of AIDS related bronchial pneumonia in 1991, aged just 45.

But while seasoned Queen fans will likely know all there is to know about Mercury’s career, his life and his iconic band, those of a younger persuasion were surprised on Monday after discovering the inspiration for his name change.

Addressing guests while launching a remixed and remastered edition of their self-titled debut album on Monday evening, guitarist May and drummer Taylor revealed it was lifted from 1973 track My Fairy King, which includes the fan-favourite line ‘My mother Mercury.’

‘He didn’t call himself Mercury at that point,’ recalled May. ‘He was still Freddie Bulsara. To his mum he was Farook Bulsara, so we were quite surprised with the mother Mercury line.

‘We wondered if it was biographical, and shortly after that he said, “I’m changing my name, I’m going to be Freddie Mercury from now on.”‘

Taylor added: ‘It was in our management office actually, which was just down the road in Wardour Street at the time, I think above the Flamingo Club.

‘We were about to go to Manchester for a show and he just turned round to us all and said, “Dears, from now on I’m called Mercury.”

I said, “Right, shall we get on the bus then?”‘

The two founding band-members also paid tribute to Mercury’s extraordinary legacy and his unique ability to impact the lives of fans across the world.

‘He found his voice and he found the means to use it,’ said May. ‘He was a colossal force, but as you’ve seen, he became front-man didn’t he? Prophetic really.

‘He became this wonderful emblem in front of us, and a great musician, a great writer, a person who could reach to the back of any gig, whether it was the Marquee or the back of an arena in Argentina, he reached every person in that show.’

Despite his obvious strengths, Taylor admitted Mercury sang like a ‘manic goat’ when they first got together.

The drummer, 75, explained how the late singer’s famously operatic singing voice left his mother horrified when the band first started out.

Roger said Freddie – who died in 1991 of bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS –  ‘turned out to be wonderful’, but the distinctive vibrato for which he is known took some fine tuning.

Speaking at the launch of the band’s remastered eponymous debut album – originally released in 1973 – he said: ‘I don’t think you realise how dreadful he sounded before.

‘I mean, he sounded like some manic goat. He sounded extraordinary, his vibrato. My mother’s face when she saw him…’

Roger added: ‘He turned out to be our wonderful Freddie whom we will never forget.

The drummer also admitted they had full confidence in their abilities during those early years.

‘We had confidence and faith,’ he said. ‘Because we could play, and we believed in Freddie.’

Despite Queen splitting after Freddie’s death at the age of 45, Roger and Brian May have continued to tour under the band’s name, with lead vocalist Adam Lambert.

The special launch event at London’s Ham Yard Hotel celebrated the newly mixed, mastered, expanded edition release of Queen’s iconic self-titled debut album.

Matt Everitt hosted the evening which included a Q&A with Brian and Roger, followed by an album playback.

The band have completely reworked their debut album, more than 50-years after its original release.

The mammoth six CD release features a rearranged track-listing, alternative takes, demo versions and live recording – notably from their very first gig in 1970.

Speaking to Guitar.com, Brian admitted the album is now in a better state than it was upon its initial release in1973.

He said: ‘I’m not saying the original version was bad – it just wasn’t what we dreamed of. Freddie  and John, too, were always conscious of this thing in our past which seemed like it couldn’t be fixed.

‘Every instrument has been re-examined from the bottom up. The guitars were originally recorded very dry, so we’ve remedied that.

‘I remember my dad saying, “There’s no ambience, Brian. I don’t feel like I’m in the room with you playing next to me.”

‘But we weren’t in a position to lay down the law, and we felt that if we stepped out of line we would lose the opportunity altogether.’

May also insisted the reworked album is not a remaster.

‘This is a brand new 2024 rebuild of the entire Queen debut album,’ the guitarist wrote on his official website.

‘All the performances are exactly as they originally appeared in 1973, but every instrument has been revisited to produce the ‘live’ ambient sounds we would have liked to use originally.

‘The result is Queen as it would have sounded with today’s knowledge and technology – a first.’

Speaking at a press conference to launch the album, the band revealed every drum beat had been augmented, because they hated the kit originally used by Roger while recording the album in the early ’70s.

‘The performances are exactly as they were,’ he explained. ‘They have not been replaced, they haven’t been added to, but we’ve just changed the sound, really, just to make it sound better, the way it should have sounded.’

Heading out after the launch party on Monday evening, Roger did the Can-Can in Soho with his daughters Tigerlily, Rory and Lola.

The family enjoyed a night out in London, with Tigerlily, 30, sharing the moment they decided to break out and dance down the street on Instagram on Friday.

The model showed off her long legs as she threw them into the air, with Roger also giving it his all.

Rory, 38, struggled to keep up, while Lola, 24, giggled in the short clip.

She added about her sister Rory: ‘I can’t. The lack of coordination and look of confusion’.

Tigerlily is the daughter of Roger and his ex-wife Debbie, who were together for 15 years before splitting in 2004.

The exes also share daughter Lola and a son Rufus, 33 – who is a touring drummer for the Queen + Adam Lambert stage shows.

Roger is also a father to son Felix, 44, and a daughter Rory, who is a GP, who he shares with Dominique Beyrand.

Brian May’s wife of 23 years Anita Dobson has been a constant support at his side and nursed him at his bedside after he struggled with his health.

Anita, 75, who played Angie Watts on EastEnders, has been at Brian side throughout his setbacks and even saved his life when she acted promptly after he suffered a heart attack in 2020.

On Wednesday, the shaken Queen guitarist, 77, announced he had suffered a stroke and was taken to Frimley Hospital in an ambulance a week ago following the medical emergency.

It is his second health scare in four years, after he endured a heart attack for which he underwent surgery.

He said: ‘That little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago and what they called it was a minor stroke.

The We Will Rock You writer revealed the incident left him temporarily unable to use his left arm.

‘All of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary, I have to say.

‘The good news is I’m okay. Just doing what I’m told, which is basically nothing. I’m grounded.

‘I’m not allowed to go out – well, I’m not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on a plane, not allowed to raise the heart rate too high… but I’m good.’

Brian said he is able to play the guitar after being unable to use his hand.

Anita met Brian shortly after she began in EastEnders at a film preview, when Brian was still married to his first wife, Chrissie, with whom he had three young children.

‘He invited me to see Queen play at Wembley, with some friends. Meeting my husband opened a door to a world I’d hitherto only dreamed of. Here was a man who was a god globally. If he asked you to do a record [Brian produced her 1988 album, Talking Of Love], a Learjet appeared to fly you to Vienna.’ Wasn’t she troubled he was married? ‘I didn’t know,’ she previously told the Daily Mail.

In 2020, Anita saved her husband’s life after he suffered a heart attack. The actress revealed she initially thought Brian had simply ‘overdone it’ after too much exercise

‘I was heart-wrenched when he told me. We had a terrible row. I was insulted. I thought: “How dare you go out with me if you’re married?” So we just kept a certain distance until we could find a place in life where we could be together. But it was hard, really hard.

‘Everybody gets hurt, and, if there are kids, it’s not good, but if people fall in love there’s nothing you can do about it. Even if you separate, the ache is still there. It stops you moving on because it’s unresolved.

‘We went through hell, but I believe, it was true love. The dust’s settled and I have good relationships with his children and ex-wife.’

In May 1999, it emerged Brian had an affair.

Anita recalled: ‘Nobody’s perfect. We’ve all done things that we’re not proud of but, unfortunately, that became public. I didn’t think I’d ever come back from it. I thought: “That’s it. Over.”

But when I walked away, I thought, “You obviously love this man, and he loves you. You’ve spent your life running away from commitment. Maybe it’s time you stood and figured out why.

‘I just thought, “We’ve gone through all the c**p. It’s time we had the good stuff.” So I said, “Brian, I think I’m ready to get married.”

Anita, who has been engaged four times before marrying Brian, tied the knot in a small register office ceremony in Richmond upon Thames in 2000.

They honeymooned in Venice, where they were blissfully happy and where they return each year.

She said: ‘I wouldn’t be married today if it wasn’t for that affair. I needed to grow up and deal with the fact I was also responsible for our relationship.’ it.

Once Anita had left EastEnders, the makers begged her to return twice, but she refused.

Instead, she took a range of TV, film and theatre roles, receiving a Best Actress nomination for a Laurence Olivier Award in 2003 for Frozen at the National Theatre.

The actress revealed she initially thought Brian had simply ‘overdone it’ after too much exercise.

Speaking to The Daily Mail about Brian’s heart attack, Anita recalled: ‘He said, ‘Babe, I think I’m having a heart attack’, I said ‘No, you’ve been exercising and you’ve overdone it’.’

Brian was quick to emphasised that things were more serious than she thought, as she added: ‘He replied, ‘No, this is different’.’

The same year, Brian spoke about the terrifying health scare.

The musician was recovering from a ripped muscle and trapped nerve as a result of a gardening injury, when he suffered a heart attack amid his recovery.

He said on BBC Morning Live:  ‘She did save my life. I had this whole cluster of things go wrong. It was a good job it was lockdown in a way but I was incapacitated with the heart attack, complications from the drugs, then I had sciatica so badly. I couldn’t even crawl.

‘So when you get that bad, you’re just grateful to be alive at the end of it and its thanks to Anita that I am, she’s been there the whole way through it

‘She’s taken care of me and nursed me and whatever.’

Brian said he was ‘grateful to be alive’ after having ‘a catalogue of disasters’ including the heart attack and a near-fatal allergic reaction to medication in the same year.

Brian released an Instagram video in which he explained the shocking series of events that lead to his hospitalisation.

He said: ‘I told you I had a ripped muscle and that was the way I was diagnosed and we thought it was like a bizarre gardening accident… I kind of forgot anything to do with the bum people find amusing… but anyway, it turned out to be not really the case.’

He went on to reveal that after being diagnosed with a rip in his gluteus maximus, he was confused to find that a week later he was still in pain.

He explained: ‘I mean real agony. I wanted to jump at some points. I could not believe the pain. And people are saying ‘that’s not like a ripped muscle’, so eventually I had another MRI.’

‘But the rest of the story is a little more bizarre. I was shocked, I thought I was a healthy guy. Everyone says I’ve got a great blood pressure and I keep fit, I bike, good diet.

‘I had – in the middle of the whole saga of the painful backside – I had a small heart attack. I say small, it’s not something that did me any harm. It was about 40 minutes of pain in the chest and tightness. It’s that feeling in the arms and sweating.

‘And you kind of know, you’ve heard things and you think ‘this is a heart attack’. To cut a long story short, my wonderful doctor drove me to the hospital himself and I had an angiogram [an X-ray used to examine blood vessels.]’

Brian went on to reveal that doctors discovered he had three arteries congested and he was in danger of blocking the supply of blood to his heart.

Doctors suggested that he undergo open heart surgery, but Brian opted for the alternative which was to have three stents put inside his heart.

  • Freddie Mercury’s ‘Wife’ Mary Austin to Receive £187.5m Windfall from Queen’s Back Catalogue Sale

Freddie Mercury’s ‘Wife’ Mary Austin to Receive £187.5m Windfall from Queen’s Back Catalogue Sale

Freddie Mercury’s ‘wife’ will come into another multi-million pound windfall following the record-breaking sale of the Queen back catalogue to Sony for £1billion.

Mary, 73, was the woman who won the heart of rock legend Freddie and has been the beneficiary of his fortune since his death in 1991.

Mary is now set to receive £187.5million after the deal is signed, after previously getting half of Freddie’s estate and another 25 per cent when his parents died.

The London native also receives 18.75 per cent of revenues from Queen Productions, which controls the catalogue and pays surviving members Roger Taylor, John Deacon and Brian May.

Mary is not in regular contact with the band mates but she is one of the trustees of a charity set up in Freddie’s honour, the Mercury Phoenix Trust.

It has been reported that after receiving the payout, Mary will enter the Top 100 richest women in Britain.

Mary and Freddie first met in 1970 when he was a young aspiring musician, who had moved to London six years prior from his birth country,  Zanzibar.

The former couple moved in together and got engaged in 1973, but three years later Freddie came out to her and told her he was gay.

In a rare interview, Mary, recalled: ‘He said, ‘I think I am bisexual. I told him: ‘I think you’re gay.’ And nothing else was said. We just hugged.’ Mary and Freddie remained the closest of friends throughout his life.

Queen reportedly sold their iconic back catalogue of hits for a whopping £1Billion pounds following a bidding war.

According to The Sun the surviving band members and Freddie’s estate agreed to the sale with Sony Music, more than doubling the record set by Bruce Springsteen, who sold the rights to his music for £393M in 2021.

The publication reports that Sony will now own all the band’s hits including Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now and I Want To Break Free.

But unlike Springsteen and Bob Dylan who sold his own back catalogue for £315M, the band will retain the rights to perform their music live.

Founding members Brian May, 75, and Roger Taylor, 74, continue to tour live with Adam Lambert, 42, as their new front man following Freddie’s death in 1991.

While Bassist John Deacon, 72, retired from music in 1997.

The deal is also said to include revenue from merchandise, cash generated by the 2018 biographic movie Bohemian Rhapsody and any other future projects and licensing deals. MailOnline contacted the band’s reps for comment.

Springsteen’s deal was inked before a string of other artists including Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Justin Bieber, also bagged hundreds of millions of dollars for their own collections.

But the market has cooled since and some major investors have devalued their song collections by as much as 14 percent.

Disney Music Group owns the North America rights to Queen’s music. But the band retains ownership of the global rights through the UK-based Queen Productions Ltd, which earned £39 million in royalties in 2021.

Investors view music catalogs much like owning shares in companies which pay dividends. The £1 billion valuation for Queen’s catalog is based on the annual returns an investor can expect throughout the next several decades.

Ahead of the reports Guy Blake, a leading music industry attorney who has worked on catalogue acquisitions, told DailyMail.com earlier this year that the Queen deal would be ‘seismic’.

‘In general, I don’t see a problem with this [$1.2 billion] number being accurate, I think there’s probably some degree of truth to it,’ said Blake, a managing partner at Granderson Des Rochers.

‘There aren’t a whole lot of catalogues out there like Queen,’ he said.’

In the streaming age, catalogue valuations also rely heavily on a metric called ‘album consumption units’, which combine streams and downloads to estimate what the equivalent number of album sales would be. One album sale is equivalent to about 1,500 song streams, according to industry standards.

Queen’s album consumption units in the US were 25.9 million between 1991 and 2017 then surged to 3.58 million in 2019 following the release of the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, according to Luminate figures reported by Billboard.

The popularity of the movie and continued airplay of Queen’s hits decades after they were released has helped the band earn a legion of young fans – something that’s also boosted the value of their catalogue.

‘Queen has found a much younger audience. And that’s unique to a legacy catalogue, Blake said.

‘I don’t know that there’s a whole lot of rock bands out there that could say that they had the popularity with people under 30 that Queen has right now. There’s just some uniqueness to so many of their songs that they just keep coming back, generation after generation.’

    Kate’s copycat on Morocco holiday

Kate Moss is rarely upstaged in the fashion world, but she met her match in Morocco.

The supermodel turned up for dinner in a leopard-print dress at fashion designer Jasper Conran’s hotel, Villa Mabrouka, in Tangier. She was greeted by the deputy general manager, Meriem Barakat, who was wearing a similar dress.

Luckily, Moss didn’t get her claws out and was happy to pose for this photograph.

Conran tells me: ‘It was lovely having Kate stay at the hotel. We had a very happy, relaxed weekend together.’

    Brian’s rock ‘n’ roll legacy

Sir Brian May, 76, is preparing to hand over the family business to his grandson. The Queen legend has commissioned a replica of Red Special, the electric guitar he fashioned as a teenager out of wood from the family fireplace, to pass down the generations.

‘My grandson said he wanted a Brian May guitar for his birthday. He knew the exact specifications he wanted, so I got our guys to make him something special,’ Sir Brian says.

‘He’s taken the bit between his teeth and really wants it. He’s marching down that road without being pushed by anyone.’

May admits he quite fancied keeping the new axe himself. ‘When I got it and I opened the box, I thought, ‘Oh, geez, I really don’t want to give this away, I want to keep this.’ But I will give it away.’

Queen’s profits have reached an eyewatering £80million in two years as they continue their iconic world tour.

The band’s latest accounts revealed they are still rocking global stages decades after the death of their lead singer, Freddie Mercury.

Surviving members Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon Queen profited £89million in 2021 and 2022.

The band members paid themselves £30m from their company Queen Productions Ltd, according to the Mirror.

The latest annual accounts revealed in 2022 the band made a profit before tax of £22.2m, up from £16.8million in the previous year.

A report attached to the books up to September 30, 2022 stated: ‘During the year turnover increased by £1,700,486, which led to an increase in profit before tax.

‘This can be attributed in part to the success of the We Will Rock You theatre production UK tour as well as an increase in licence fees on live music touring.’

The net profit margin for the year skyrocketed by 11per cent, as the increase in turnover coincided with a decrease in royalties payable.

According to the report, all signs show the band should expect to see the money continuing to roll in for the foreseeable future.

It read: ‘Given the success of [the film] Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You in recent years, it is anticipated the company will generate similar income in the year ended September 30 2023 and in the years thereafter.’

Turnover for 2022 was £49,893,655 and for 2021 it was £39,193,189.

They first launched their universally acclaimed Rhapsody Tour with 26 epic shows across North America in 2019 and are now back again with an even bigger and better show.

Discussing the show, Brian said: ‘We’re still calling our show The Rhapsody Tour, but the content has evolved massively from when you last saw it.

‘New toys, new takes, but all the hits and more.’

Talking about his role in the band Adam said: ‘I consider it a beautiful twist of fate that I was put on a path that aligned me with Brian and Roger.

‘I can’t wait to tour North America one more time alongside the two unbelievably talented legends that are Brian May and Roger Taylor.’

Roger added: ‘Adam is certainly a real force on stage. It’s been nothing but a riotously funny and enjoyable journey with him. He is simply one of the best vocalists in the world – FACT!’

Brian May Surprises Audience at Queen Screening, Reflects on Freddie Mercury’s Legacy: “A Truly Precious and Intimate Moment”

Queen legend Brian May surprised fans as he attended the UK preview of live concert film Queen Rock Montreal from 1981 at the BFI IMAX in Southbank on Monday evening.

Ahead of its global release in IMAX from January 18-21, the guitarist spoke at an exclusive preview screening as he reminisced on the shows in Montreal and remembered the late Freddie Mercury, who died of AIDS in 1991.

Discussing where Queen were in their career when the footage was taken, Brian admitted that he and fellow members Roger Taylor and John Deacon were slightly annoyed at director Saul Swimmer’s footage as a lot of the shots specifically on Freddie.

Speaking to the audience, Brian explained: ‘The director was very much focused on Freddie, which we were a bit annoyed about at the time because you know we’ve always been a band.

‘But you know now that we don’t have Freddie this now stands as probably the most precious intimate capture ever of Freddie.’

He added: ‘This performance shows Queen at the top of their game.

‘I don’t think we quite realized it at the time, but this film has preserved one of the highest peaks in Queen’s touring life, on stage in the old glory days’.

Brian also played part of Bohemian Rhapsody on a grand piano which featured the very same microphone that Freddie used during the legendary performance in Montreal, and in typical rock star fashion was decorated with beers.

Meanwhile Roger told IMAX: ‘Enjoy. We were young!’

The film captures a pivotal moment in the band’s history as Queen played to  Montreal’s 18,000-seat Forum for the fourth time in November 1981.

The band returned to the Canadian city after a 15-month absence during which they became the biggest band in the world.

Fueled by the release of The Game album, their smash single Under Pressure, and extensive touring, Queen now dominated the charts in every major territory across the globe.

Yet Brian also revealed that originally the band weren’t really looking forward to the shows as it meant they had to head out on the road again, after only just returning home from their The Game tour a month earlier.

The musician explained that the band were all a bit reluctant about doing the shows, but their tour manager Jim Beach had arranged them specifically to set Queen up for another first: shooting a full-length concert film to properly document their live show, highlighting the state-of-the art sound recording.

Brian admitted that the four of them were tired: ‘You know that feeling when you’re like “Oh do I have to?”‘

But the band began rehearsing again and headed back out on the road with their 17 trucks and 50 plus crew in what has become two of their most legendary shows.

Despite being filmed originally in IMAX, Brian explained how there were multiple problems with the edit over the years and it was never the finished project Queen hoped it would be, with Brian describing it as a ‘bit of a thorn in our sides.’

Yet now for the first time the film has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience, including 12-channel surround sound, crystal-clear images, and IMAX’s customized theatre geometry.

With the help of executive producers Geoff Kempin and Alice Webb for Mercury Studios and Jim and Matilda Beach for Queen Films fans will be given a larger-than-life, front-row immersive experience into the foursome at their very best.

With just the four of them on stage with no backing tracks or extra musicians, the performance includes a host of their greatest hits including We Will Rock You, Somebody To Love, Under Pressure, Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites the Dust and We Are The Champions.

It also includes additional songs from popular album The Game including Dragon Attack, Play the Game and more.

Queen Rock Montreal will be released in over 450 IMAX locations globally for four days beginning January 18.

Participating territories include the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, and Mexico, to name a few.
