Cate Blanchett Stuns in Quirky Feather Gown at Venice Film Festival Premiere

Cate Blanchett stole the show at the Venice International Film Festival on Sunday, as she attended the Father Mother Sister Brother premiere.

The acclaimed actress, 56, ensured all eyes were on her in a striking black gown with a voluminous skirt made up of layers of dark grey feathers.

The fitted black bodice accentuated her svelte waist, before flowing into the intricate winged skirt that fluttered behind her as she walked the carpet, resembling a bird taking flight. 

Cate was joined by her co-stars Vicky Krieps and Charlotte Rampling, with the three women putting on a warm display as they posed together.

The glamorous trio showed their close bond extended off screen as they laughed and held hands together on the red carpet. 

Father Mother Sister Brother, which is set to hit cinemas later this year, sees estranged siblings reunite after years apart.

The siblings are then forced to confront unresolved tensions and reevaluate their strained relationships with their emotionally distant parents. 

The stellar cast also includes Adam Driver and Mayim Bialik and marks Jim’s first film in five years.

It also sees the director reunite with Cate, after last working together on the 2003 anthology film Coffee & Cigarettes, which also featured Steve Buscemi and Iggy Pop. 

The Blue Jasmine star was spotted filming the picture in County Dublin with Vicky in January last year, looking vastly different with a mousy brown bob and bookish spectacles. 

Cate’s appearance at the premiere comes after she attended the opening night of the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday, recycling one of her best looks.

She wore a jaw-dropping black gown that boasted a very plunging neckline embellished with large stones to draw attention to her décolletage and tiny waist.

And it marked the second time that Cate stole the show on the red carpet in the daring Armani number, after first wearing the gown to the 2022 SAG Awards.

While the two-time Oscar winner recently revealed her plans to eventually retire from acting, following a glittering career.

During an interview with Radio Times earlier this year, Cate hesitated to define her job title before revealing she hopes to step away from the camera.

She said: ‘It’s because I’m giving up [acting]. My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it. I am serious about giving up acting’.

The Lord of the Rings star explained her desire to move away from acting was because she had ‘a lot of things I want to do with my life’.

It’s not the first time that Cate has teased an eventual departure from the screen world, previously admitting to Vanity Fair  that she often contemplated the idea. 

In 2023, she confessed: ‘It’s not occasional—it’s continual. On a daily or weekly basis, for sure.

‘It’s a love affair, isn’t it? So you do fall in and out of love with it, and you have to be seduced back into it.’
