Captain America: Brave New World hit theaters on Thursday night and headed toward $12M in its first-night earnings.
The Disney/Marvel Studios action film is a follow-up to Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Soldier and The Incredible Hulk.
According to Deadline, the film is so far doing better than 2014’s Captain America: Winter Soldier, which came in slightly lower at $10.2M before eventually hitting a $95M opening.
And it fell below 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which collected $17.5M in previews on its way to $106.1M in three-day earnings and $120.3M after four days.
Per the outlet, Brave New World is expected to make $80M in three days and $94M in four days.

The superhero adventure brings back elements from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, with Harrison Ford stepping in for the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross, plus Tim Blake Nelson returning as Samuel Sterns.
Rotten Tomatoes critics gave the movie a 52% critics score and after Thursday evening, audiences have looked at it more favorably, giving it a 82% rating.
Though there were some critics who praised the film ahead of its release, many bashed it, labeling it ‘convoluted,’ ‘dull’ and ‘generic.’
The film follows Sam Wilson as the new Captain America, which comes just after Thaddeus Ross is elected the new President of the United States.
Sam is tasked with determining who is really behind an explosive international incident.
Deadline reported that RelishMix counted under 600M for the movie’s reach across social media platforms, putting it in average standing for a superhero flick.
Most of the cast is active online, save for 82-year-old l Harrison Ford.
Before its President’s Day weekend debut, Mackie’s virtual following was at 5.4M while Liv Tyler’s stood at 7.2M and Giancarlos Esposito’s 4M.

The film opened this weekend in over 4,100 theaters over the extended holiday stretch.
Captain America: Brave New World is estimated to have cost $180 million to produce, not counting marketing value.
Julius Onah directed the film from a screenplay co-written with Rob Edwards, Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson and Peter Glanz.
Along with the $95 million domestic debut, box office prognosticators are predicting a $110 million overseas opening as well.
