A mysterious ‘green goblin’ heads turning at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday night.
As Ru Paul’s Drag Race continued its domination of the awards show, cast member Princess Poppy sported some rather unusual red carpet attire.
While her fellow drag queens went glam for the occasion, Princess Poppy instead decided to dress as a wart-covered goblin – or a self-proclaimed ‘troll-slash-hag’.
The drag queen was painted green from head-to-toe and had facial prosthetics applied to give her a large chin, nose, and pointed ears.
For the ceremony at the Peacock Theater, Los Angeles, she was even spotted carrying around a handbag covered in punk doll heads and googly eyes, with her hands sporting extra-long finger nails.
A mysterious ‘green goblin’ turned heads at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday night – but who was it?
As Ru Paul’s Drag Race continued its domination of the awards show, cast member Princess Poppy sported some rather unusual red carpet attire
To add a bit of elegance to the outrageous ensemble, Princess Poppy donned a green shimmery strapless gown and a green and pearl necklace-earring set.
Princess Poppy, who was a contestant on the 15th season of the drag competition, said she wanted to buck the trend of what it’s expected at glamorous events.
‘I wanted to do the exact opposite of what is expected of you when you go to an event like this,’ she told Entertainment Weekly while on the red carpet.
‘I wanted to take decorum and turn it on its head. Mainly I wanted to be a troll-slash-hag.’
Princess Poppy added: ‘I wanted to be so shocking that you just have to turn and look at me — in the worst way possible.’
She was joined on the red carpet by fellow castmates Sasha Colby, Marcia Marcia Marcia, Luxx Noir London, Jax, Salina EsTitties, Aura Mayari, Sugar and Spice, Malaysia Babydoll Foxx, Robin Fierce and Irene Dubois.
Drag fans on social media were howling at the look, with one saying: ‘I love drag what do you mean the green goblin is at the Emmys.’
While another wrote: ‘Princess Poppy showing up to the Emmys as a green goblin like please [crying face].’
‘Princess Poppy dressing up as a green goblin at the Emmys is the best thing that happened so far this year,’ a third said.

Meanwhile, many were left bewildered by the identity of the green goblin, with one person writing on X, formerly Twitter: ‘Uh..why is there a green goblin on the red carpet just doing her thing like its nbd? #Emmys.’
‘Sorry is anyone gonna talk about the green goblin that was on the red carpet for the Emmys,’ said another.
The drag artist’s dramatic look came as Drag Race continued to sweep up at the Emmys – with RuPaul remaining the most decorated Black artist in the awards show’s history.
And while accepting the award for Outstanding Competition Program, Ru Paul urged people to ‘listen to a drag queen’ and defended performers reading in libraries.
It is the sixth time Ru Paul’s Drag Race has won the accolade since 2018, and the Drag Race host, 63, used his speech to call out backlash towards drag story-time.
The drag supermodel declared: ‘Listen, if a drag queen wants to read you a story at a library, listen to her because knowledge is power and if someone wants to restrict your access to power, they are trying to scare you.
‘So listen to a drag queen, we love you, thank you.’
Ru was joined at the awards by co-judges Michelle Visage, Ross Matthews and Carson Kressley, as well as a number of the show’s stars – including season two’s Raven, and Season 15’s Luxx Noir London, Salina EsTitties, and reigning queen Sasha Colby.

‘We are so honoured to have this award,’ Ru said. ‘Listen, you guys are just pure lovely for honouring our show and recognising all these queens.
‘We have released into the wild, hundreds of drag queens and they’re beautiful.’
He was presented the award by The Hangover’s Ken Jeong and Community’s Joel McHale.
Ru also won Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program at last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys – taking his total Emmy wins to date to 16.
In 2021, Ru celebrated becoming the most Emmy-awarded black person in history with his 11th win for the reality show.
At the time he said: ‘Wow, thank you so much to the Academy and all of you gorgeous people here tonight. All of the people at World of Wonder and Viacom-CBS who have been so wonderful, but really thanks to all of our lovely children on our show from around the world.
‘They are so gracious to tell their stories of courage and how to navigate this difficult life, even more difficult today.
‘This is for you and for you kids out there watching. You have a tribe that is waiting for you, we are waiting for you, baby. Come on to Mama Ru!’
