And the Die Hard actor also shares 13-year-old daughter Mabel with 47-year-old wife Emma, who has become his caretaker amid his grave battle with dementia.

Bruce’s family revealed in 2022 that the actor had been diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that causes a person to lose communication skills.

By February 2023, his loved ones confirmed it had progressed into frontotemporal dementia (FTD) — a degenerative brain disease that impacts speech, behavior, and cognitive function.

Emma details the life-altering experience of going from spouse to caretaker in her book, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, published in September.

In July the mother-of-two documented the start of her recording session for the audiobook. Sharing a selfie taken the studio, she wrote on Instagram: ‘Day 1 of 4 in the recording booth for The Unexpected Journey complete.

‘I’ve lived with these words in my head for so long, and today I spoke them out loud for the very first time. I could hardly get through page 1, the dedication page, without crying.’

She added, ‘And as I continued reading, one thought kept circling in the back of my mind… I can’t believe this is the subject I’ve had to become an expert on.’

The former model concluded, ‘It’s heartbreaking. And yet I’m so grateful to share what I’ve learned in the hope that it supports another caregiver on their journey.’

Earlier this month she revealed her young children are grieving their dad amid his dementia diagnosis.

‘I think they’re doing well, all things considered but it’s hard,’ she told Vogue Australia.

She elaborated, ‘They grieve, they miss their dad so much. He’s missing important milestones, that’s tough for them — but kids are resilient, [although] I used to hate hearing that because people didn’t understand what we were walking through.’

And the protective mother added: ‘I don’t know if my kids will ever bounce back, but they’re learning and so am I.’

Sources close to the family recently revealed Emma is struggling to not only help manage the star’s rapidly deteriorating condition, but also to manage his hefty estate.

An insider said: ‘Taking care of Bruce isn’t just about keeping up his spirits and making sure he can physically get through the day. It also involves looking after the massive fortune he accrued as an A-list movie star.’
