Brooke Shields’ Daughter Discovers Mother’s Sexual Assault While Watching Documentary

Brooke Shields spoke about being sexually assaulted in the 2023 documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, but her youngest daughter didn’t know about the attack until she saw the movie. 

‘Part of being a mom is learning from your kids,’ the Brooks Shields is Not Allowed to Get Old author told People. 

‘I didn’t prepare her,’ the 59-year-old mother of two said. ‘It was a miscommunication.

‘I had explained it was an exploration of sexualization of women in my industry but I was naively thinking that because we had such a solid, healthy, fairly normal existence and I’m not completely damaged that she would say, “Wow you’ve come through a lot but look where we are today.”‘

Instead, her daughter Grier, 18, had a completely different reaction. 

‘I was learning about things the same time that the world was and I just took it more deeply and personally,’ the teen told the outlet. ‘I couldn’t even get through it.’

‘I told her “but there’s a happy ending.”‘ Shields countered, ‘and she said, “I will never be okay with thinking something bad happened to you.”‘

‘She ended up missing the happy part,’ the Golden Globes nominee said.

‘She felt helpless, and just as a mom, we make mistakes and sometimes we make assumptions.’

The Mother of the Bride actress said her older daughter, Rowan, 21, knew about the assault prior to watching the film. 

She shares both daughters with her husband Chris Henchy, 60. 

The Emmy nominated documentary looked back at Shields’ career, including her rise to fame as a child actress playing a prostitute in 1978’s controversial Pretty Baby.

She also spoke about starring in the films The Blue Lagoon and Endless Love, and the impact being a teen sex symbol had on her life.

Shields revealed she has been sexually assaulted publicly for the first time in the Emmy nominated documentary.  She has chosen to to identify her assailant

The film was the first time she revealed publicly she had been sexually assaulted in her early 20s by a powerful Hollywood figure. 

Shields has chosen not to publicly name her assailant.

‘To see the documentary or to see your parents as a public figure that other people have opinions on is just an odd situation. I’ve learned a lot by listening to them,’ Shields said.
