Brad Pitt played coy when asked about the culmination of his acrimonious eight-year divorce battle with his ex wife Angelina Jolie in a recent interview.
However, sources have told the Daily Mail that this couldn’t be further from the truth.
In private, 61-year-old Pitt has been pushed ‘close to breaking point’ over the bitter legal negotiations, which included allegations of abuse against the actor and saw million-dollar shares over their French winery contested in court.
Speaking to GQ as he promoted his new race-car movie F1, the Oscar winner attempted to downplay his emotions over the legal spar that’s made headlines for close to a decade.
When asked if he felt ‘relief’ over the resolution of his divorce from Jolie, 49, late last year, Pitt said that the end of their battle was not ‘major’ for him.
‘No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing,’ Pitt said. ‘Just something coming to fruition. Legally.’

However, Pitt’s apparent nonchalance over his divorce was masking the true toll of their legal war
Pitt – who shares six children with Jolie – did acknowledge his love life is ‘always in the news,’ seemingly referencing his 32-year-old girlfriend, jewelry executive Ines de Ramon.
‘It’s been in the news for 30 years, bro. Or some version of my personal life, let’s put it that way,’ he told the publication.
However, Pitt’s apparent nonchalance over his divorce was masking the true toll of their legal war.
‘Brad’s had his fair share of meltdowns over the years as their feuding got more and more intense,’ the source said. ‘It affected him emotionally on many levels, but admitting that publicly for Angie to hear he knows would give her great pleasure.
‘He’s aware she’s struggled a lot, so he’s decided to take the highroad.’
Pitt and Jolie, nicknamed ‘Brangelina,’ famously met on the set of spy thriller Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2003 when he was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston.
Meanwhile, the Lara Croft star had recently separated from her soon-to-be ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton.
Following their respective divorces, Pitt and Jolie quickly took their relationship public in 2005 – stepping out together on red carpets, traveling the world on humanitarian ventures and exotic holidays, or emerging from private jets to visit their various homes worldwide.

Pitt and Jolie share six children: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, now 16

Pitt is currently in a relationship with 32-year-old jewelry executive Ines de Ramon
After nearly a decade together, Pitt and Jolie were legally married in 2014. The couple went on to share six children together: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, now 16.
But the Maleficent actress filed for dissolution of marriage in September 2016, days after an incident on a private plane during which she has claimed Pitt was abusive to her and their six children.
Pitt has continued to deny the claims of abuse and was cleared by law enforcement following an investigation.
Still, it seemed the damage was done as Pitt has remained largely estranged from his children in the wake of the divorce.
His daughter Shiloh made headlines in May last year when she filed to drop ‘Pitt’ from her last name. Her petition was granted in August.
Meanwhile, Zahara – a student at Spelman College – appeared to drop her father’s last name as she introduced herself at a sorority induction ceremony, and Vivienne dropped the last name Pitt from her moniker in The Outsiders Playbill, where she served as producer’s assistant.
Pitt’s son Pax also publicly called the actor a ‘world class a**hole’ and ‘despicable person’ in a scathing Father’s Day post shared to his private Instagram account.
Although Pitt appeared to minimize the impact of his divorce, the source maintained he’s heartbroken over his strained relationship with his children.

‘They’ve fought about so many things that have brought him close to breaking point, including the winery and more importantly their children,’ they said.
‘The fact that Angie won them over is still a huge point of contention for Brad.
‘But he wants to put on a brave face, like none of it has made a big dent in his life. Nothing could be further from the truth.’
Pitt’s GQ interview comes four years after he was granted joint custody in May 2021 – but one month later, the judge’s decision was thrown out, and the estranged couple had to start all over again.
A second insider said this prevented the ‘opportunity to salvage things’ and made the ‘emotional ride much more difficult’ for the actor.
The Hollywood stars officially signed off on their divorce paperwork in December 2024, ending a bitter eight-year legal battle. The fight over a French chateau and vineyard they once jointly owned, Chateau Miraval, is still ongoing.
The case stems from Pitt’s accusations that Jolie sold her $62 million stake of the winery to the Stoli Group, famed for its Stolichnaya vodka, without his approval.
Both sides have said they would be willing to take the Miraval case to a jury trial or mediation, a source previously told the Daily Mail.
These days, the Fight Club actor has happily moved on with Ramon.
Although the pair have been dating for more than two years, making their initial appearance as a couple in November 2022 at a Bono concert, it was recently reported that the movie megastar won’t be hearing wedding bells anytime soon.
‘Brad is totally in love with Ines, but he doesn’t want to go down the road of marriage and kids,’ a source told the Daily Mail in April.
‘He’s been burned badly by the divorce from Angelina and his kids wanting little if nothing to do with him. He’s 61 and loving his life just the way it is.’
The Daily Mail has contacted Pitt’s representatives for comment.
