Bode Miller Withdraws from Special Forces Training Due to Groin Injury

Bode Miller after suffering a groin injury voluntarily withdrew from the competition on Monday’s episode of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test on Fox.

The 46-year-old gold-winning Olympics skier was forced to leave the competition on Day Seven of the season two episode titled Grit that began with only six celebrity recruits remaining after starting out with 14.

‘Well, my groin is still hurt, but it’s not blown out,’ said Bode after breakfast before they were all gathered outside.

Directing Staff member Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham, an ex-SAS Sergeant Major, told Bode, Tyler Cameron, JoJo Siwa, Nick Viall, Erin Jackson and Tom Sandoval that they next faced the hardest phase of selection.

‘If you feel you haven’t got the grit, you don’t know if you really want it, now is your opportunity to give me your armband,’ Billy told them.

The remaining recruits in a confessional told the camera why they didn’t hand over their armband and voluntarily withdraw.

‘I think that I wanna be tested. I’m always aware of my limitations and my age, but I’m confident of where I am. I know myself and my body really well,’ Bode said.

The recruits as part of the winter modified special forces training were driven to a far off mountain range to face the most punishing conditions so far of the course.

‘This is where we push the recruits physically, emotionally, and mentally to their breaking point. It’s about showing us you’ve got what it takes. And if you don’t find that extra 10 percent, then you won’t make it,’ said Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox, a former UK Special Forces soldier and Royal Marine Commando.

Foxy told the recruits that all of the Directing Staff have operated in cold weather environments and ‘had to pull sleds or pulks for three or four days just to get into a target area.’

‘It requires grit. We’re going to be pulling pulk over horrendous terrain. This is a race. I’m leading the route. I’m pulling a pulk on my own. And I expect you to stay with me,’ Foxy said.

The recruits were paired in teams of equal strength and tasked with hauling a kit weighing 130 pounds in a two-mile race over treacherous terrain.

Bode was paired with JoJo, 20, and he pulled a heavy sled first as JoJo trailed behind carrying packs in support.

‘As a skier, my philosophy was that I had to be able to take risks that other people weren’t gonna take. When competing against the best, you have to figure out some way to beat them all,’ Bode said.

Bode and JoJo took an early lead and she encouraged him to rest and offered to switch out with him.

‘My strongest asset is my intensity. It also can be a liability. I can overexert at a time when other people wouldn’t because they can’t push themselves that far,’ Bode said.

He grunted while pulling the sled and labored to take steps until he finally hit the wall and stopped.

Bode refused to switch with JoJo and Olympic gold-medalist speed skater Erin, 31, and her teammate Tyler, 30, started to gain on them.

Tyler and Erin decided to switch and she started pulling the sled as they got into striking distance of Bode and JoJo.

‘One of the reasons for the success I’ve achieved as an athlete and as a student comes down to making quick decisions and not getting frazzled under pressure,’ Erin told the camera.

The show’s narrator Shaun Dooley, 49, noted in his English accent that Bode’s solo effort was catching up with him.

Erin started closing on them as Bode slowed down and he finally agreed to switch out with JoJo.

‘Come on! In you go! Grit your teeth and go. Grit your teeth and go,’ Billy yelled at JoJo and Bode. ‘Do not let them take the lead.’

Erin in a confessional said she may come across as quiet, but also declared that she was ‘super competitive.’

Directing Staff congratulated Erin for her effort after she and Tyler passed Bode and JoJo to win.

Nick, 43, and Sandoval, 40, finished in last place.

There was no rest for the weary though as the recruits were then told to turn around where Billy was standing in the near distance and ordered to sprint to him.

The recruits ran toward Billy who shouted at them to get down on their stomachs and crawl to him. They were then forced to remain in a push up position to test their resolve.

Jovon Quarles, a veteran Navy SEAL, told the recruits while in plank position that they next had to bear crawl to Rudy Reyes, a former United States Recon Marine.

Bode winced and stood up as the others crawled on all fours toward Rudy.

‘DS Q, I can’t do that,’ Bode said as he approached Jovon.

Jovan asked Bode to make a decision.

‘Yeah, I VW. I can’t shred it. I can’t f***ing blow it out. There’s nothing I can do about it,’ Bode said as he handed over his armband.

Jovon told him to stand up and walk past his team.

‘Throughout my career, the one thing I couldn’t do was quit. As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned where my limits are. So, time to move on,’ Bode said in a confessional.

JoJo on the ride back spilled to Nick and Sandoval that Bode pushed himself too hard before he voluntarily withdrew and Sandoval was surprised that he quit.

‘I never thought he would VW before me,’ Sandoval said.

‘I think he did it for us,’ Nick said.

The Directing Staff in a review meeting praised Tyler, Erin, JoJo and Nick for their effort and questioned if Sandoval was completely focused.

Fox then gave the recruits a compass for the ‘Escape and Evasion’ phase and a cover story of being on a birds conservation mission.

Before embarking on the mission, they went through a Special Forces pre-battle ritual that involved getting a message from home.

‘The messages from home is a test of their character. It’s to see how they respond to influence from loved ones,’ Foxy said.

Terri told Tom that she was looking forward to seeing him and learning about his time on the show.

‘And, uh, just do it, Tom. All right. I love you. See you soon. Not soon enough, but soon,’ Terri said.

Tom wiped away tears as Directing Staff watched his reaction and noted that he had a lot on his mind back home following his Scandoval affair.

‘It’s a lot,’ Tom said when he got back to his fellow recruits.

The recruits were then called outside for their next mission in which they had to reach a rendezvous point in a remote forest using a compass and map while evading a hunter force comprised of former military members.

They were separated into Team Alpha of Tom, Erin and JoJo and Team Bravo of Nick and Tyler.

Their vehicles were ambushed en route and told to get to their extraction point without getting caught by the hunter force.

They first had to reach a rendezvous point to get directions to the lakeside extraction point.

Team Alpha headed off with Sandoval in the lead, but he frustrated JoJo by ignoring her and leaving them behind.

‘Turn off your light!,’ Tom yelled at Erin after they caught up with him.

‘Tom. Number one, don’t yell at her. Number two, please stop running away. We’re supposed to stay together. I can’t keep screaming your name, dude,’ JoJo told Sandoval.

In a confessional, JoJo said she was a ‘team player’, but will speak up if somebody is being disrespectful of someone else.

Team Bravo of Tyler and Nick reached their rendezvous point and retrieved a map, followed by Team Alpha who also found a map.

Sandoval stopped to eat some trail mix as the enemy closed in on them with barking dogs.

JoJo said they need to move as Tom kept eating.

‘One drink of water and then I’m going,’ Tom said as the enemy closed in on them.

Both teams advanced toward the extraction point as the hunger force patrolled the road and made a run for it.

Team Bravo ran into the hunters and were captured as Team Alpha approached their extraction point.

Tom was pontificating about what it meant when they were suddenly captured.

‘This is now the final stage. Within the next 24 hours, we will know who’s capable of passing the Selection. But first, they have to go through the worst phase. Interrogation,’ Billy said.

Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test will return next week on Fox.
